ARCHIVED Asprin Or Tylenol
cyclinglady replied to w8in4dave's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Regular old Tylenol is gluten free. I just bought some when I had the flu two weeks ago. I am allergic to aspirin and ibuprofen which causes facial and tongue swelling. How is your swelling? -
ARCHIVED Borborygmus: Not Just For Scrabble Anymore
cyclinglady replied to Lirren's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think you need more time for healing! I found relief after six or seven weeks. Not 100% but noticeable relief. My original symptom was just anemia, but between the blood test and biopsy, I consumed an enormous amount of gluten. Then I got all the gas, pain, etc. normally associated with celiac. Everyone has a different pace for healing. Hang in... -
ARCHIVED Rotisserie Chickens
cyclinglady replied to CeeLeighacLady's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Publix chicken is gluten free (located in the South). I usually purchase chicken from Costco. It is our new "fast food". -
ARCHIVED Bread Machine For A Shared Home?
cyclinglady replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No more gluten flour in my house! If my daughter wants bread, she gets it at a restaurant or at Grandma's. Otherwise, she gets pre-packaged PB & J frozen sandwiches. I will boil noddles for her in her own pot, but that's the extent of my gluten cooking. She'll be the first to say that my gluten-free cupcakes and pancakes are better than gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED I Guess I Post Here, Now!
cyclinglady replied to Lirren's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Patience and eliminate all dairy (even in your supplements/probiotics) until you heal more. Of course stay away from gluten forever! -
ARCHIVED Stomach Pains
cyclinglady replied to Frosty-35768's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hubby just dealt with this last night and he did not get glutened nor did I give him food poisoning! There is a intestinal bug going around. Stay hydrated. -
ARCHIVED Borborygmus: Not Just For Scrabble Anymore
cyclinglady replied to Lirren's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you are having dairy issues (very common), the probiotic you are using contains lactose. Lactose is hard to digest when villi are damaged. I took no supplements for 30 days when I was first diagnosed. I just focused on going gluten free. I am allergic to milk, so I avoided that and the other foods that I had known about for years. Then I added in... -
ARCHIVED Cold Snowy Winter Comin'............ Git Ready
cyclinglady replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Today I'm going out to the front yard to wash my dog. With low humidity, she'll be dry in minutes! Not to gloat, but it's going to be 85 degrees for the next couple of days! Time to get out my flip flops! -
ARCHIVED Grrrr Gene Testing-Results Not What I Expected
cyclinglady replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with Irish. You have seen that I have harped about the fact that although I have been formally diagnosed, my husband has not. He's been gluten-free for 13 years. He went off gluten at the advice of my allergist and his GP. It would be nice to have a formal diagnosis, but he has stated that he will not do a gluten challenge. For what? He already... -
Good tips, Colleen! The only restaurant I have eaten safely was a completely gluten free restaurant and bakery located in Tucson, Arizona. How I wish we had a gluten-free restaurant in my hometown! We have a few bakeries, but then I can bake with the best of them! We spent Christmas out-of-state but fortunately, my parents can accommodate our gluten...

ARCHIVED Discussing The Newbie 101 Topic
cyclinglady replied to psawyer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum. There's a wealth of information here! Check out the newbie thread. It contains all kinds of tips and ideas about going gluten free. Be sure to check all meds and lip balms too for gluten. Is your son finished with all testing? Will he have a biopsy (endoscopy) or does your doctor think that positive results on a complete celiac... -
ARCHIVED I Guess I Post Here, Now!
cyclinglady replied to Lirren's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You will be running again soon. Listen to your body and allow it to heal. It took me about six weeks to see any results and then I suffered a back fracture thanks to celiac disease. A few months later and I was back on the trails. Riding a new comfort bike too. Looking forward to riding my road bike soon! Have patience! -
ARCHIVED Online Shopping
cyclinglady replied to Aquadan005's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Still Very Sick!
cyclinglady replied to Elizabethjohnson-1991's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Elizabeth, Sorry to hear that you were so ill! Glad to hear that you are getting better and that you must be diligent and research everything that goes into your mouth -- including meds and don't forget lipstick! I think you will start to feel better in a few months or so. Since you were being glutened (even though you thought you were gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else ?
cyclinglady replied to Aquadan005's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep, that is why I was anemic for so long. They just thought it was my thalassemia issues. Besides having tiny little red blood cells and always being just below range for hemoglobin, my doc ran a DNA test to confirm the thalassemia. My body has always compensated for this trait, but when the celiac disease triggered, month long periods hit, I could barely... -
ARCHIVED Nuts Causing Constipation?
cyclinglady replied to voxy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh, every website will tell you that wheat is good for constipation, but if you have celiac disease or an intolerance to it, it will make you sick! -
ARCHIVED Nuts Causing Constipation?
cyclinglady replied to voxy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are allergic to them, or have an intolerance to nuts (based on your observation), do not eat them. I can not eat tree nuts. Usually milk invokes theses symptoms for me except for hot flashes -- those are from low estrogen levels. -
ARCHIVED How Long Before Your Mood Symptoms Of Glutening Take To Kick In?
cyclinglady replied to javic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My husband is really cranky the next day. Nothing noticeable during the first few hours after an accidental glutening. It is usually over in 48 hours. -
ARCHIVED Tortilla Press

Homemade tortillas are heavenly! -
ARCHIVED Thyroid Problems - Nodule
cyclinglady replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I started with a small dose of thyroid replacement in an attempt to bring down my thyroid antibodies (which were the highest my docs had ever seen) even though my TSH was in the normal range. Over the years my dosage increased. Two years ago I experienced a thyroid storm going from hyper to hypo on almost a daily or weekly basis. My Mom has Graves and... -
ARCHIVED Struggling To Get Better, Loads Of Different Foods Are Making Me Ill
cyclinglady replied to Sparky123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Foods Still Causing Gluten Reaction
cyclinglady replied to FastTurtle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just wanted to add that a Xanthan gum intolerance seems to be rare. My husband has no issues with it at all! I do not want others seeing this post to give it up. It does produce great baked goods. I am allergic/intolerant to so many things....a family curse! -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Foods Still Causing Gluten Reaction
cyclinglady replied to FastTurtle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Fast Turtle, I started having glutening like symptoms from Xanthan gum which is in that salad dressing. Limits my selection of gluten free commercially made products. Something to consider. -
ARCHIVED Tortilla Press
cyclinglady replied to Pegleg84's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use Maseca masa and have not had any issues. It may not be certified, but I bet their line only processes corn. You will need a separate griddle or frying pan to cook. Good luck on your press. I do it manually! Check out YouTube for ideas and use your masa for tamales too. Oh, I make them from scratch occasionally. I can get tortillas from the... -
ARCHIVED Dried Fruit Contaminated With Gluten?
cyclinglady replied to nama shivaya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I tend to react to sulfer dioxide and sulfites, you might consider that. Chances are, it was because they were repackaged by store employees (cc issues).
