  1. My doctor always recommended taking charcoal. It's natural and it works. But like any "drug" for gas, use it sparingly. You don't want to miss absorbing good nutrients. Eggs can really give me bad gas (severe) so I don't eat them except in baked goods. The beano enzyme formulate is good, but it's better to find the root cause of your gas and it...
  2. Well, if you know it's wheat/gluten that's bothering you and you don't want to consume it in order to get a complete Celiac blood panel, then you have to get off gluten. And that means no gluten at all -- not just cutting back on the gluten. Check out the newbie thread on this forum. Learn about cross contamination, beauty products, etc. Stay...
  3. Jam should be lactose and gluten free even in Argentina (I think). If not, you can google how to make jam that you don't can but put into the freezer. It's summer for you and think of all that fresh fruit! Bread? If commercial gluten free is not available, you may have to learn to make it yourself. Seeing your Grandma bake lots of delicious gluten...
  4. August is too soon to expect significant results. I was diagnosed in March. Am finally feeling much better. So, hang in there!
  5. How nice to have such loving support!
  6. Isn't a wonderful feeling? To eat out with confidence? We ate in a chain Italian restaurant once at an out of town restaurant. Even though we have eaten successfully at the chain in town, I was still leary (they offered a gluten-free menu). When I went to explain, the waitress brought the manager over. She had celiac disease too! I was so relieved...
  7. Hey, I'm officially diagnosed (3/2013) , but my husband is not. He's been gluten free for 12 years and refuses to do a challenge. Why bother? He knows that gluten makes him sick. Get back to being gluten free and you'll feel so much better!
  8. I can offer up both sides. I am formally diagnosed but my husband is not. He's been gluten free for over 12 years at the advice of his GP and my allergist. Through trial and error, he managed to go gluten free that first year. He now refuses to do a gluten challenge. He knows that gluten makes him sick and that's been good enough. But, he'll be...
  9. You can use your old cast iron skillet, if you have a "clean" cycle on your oven. Put it in, run the clean cycle, and then re-season it. There are plenty of blogs on how to re-season or check the Lodge Cast Iron website for directions. Welcome!
  10. I am hoping that all my allergies and intolerances that I have had for over 15 years will go away. I am not holding my breath though!
  11. I am butting in.....milk allergies for me start with sinus issues (start generating mucus within minutes.) Then it is on to indigestion, etc. Garlic makes my mouth tingle and then digestive issues. Gluten always begins with indigestion (burping) and actual stomach (not the small or large intestine) pain. Funny how I did not have noticeable gluten issues...
  12. Wow! I'm sorry to hear that you feeling so bad! Have you researched all the possible side effects from the meds you were prescribed? Have you tried just eating whole foods (nothing commercially processed)? Kept a food diary? Considered a rotational diet? If you have a food intolerance, diarrhea is one way your body's telling you that it doesn...
  13. You'll be fine! Each year, I spend two weeks at Christmas and five weeks in the summer at my parent's house out of state! This year was the first time I was gluten free (husband's been gluten-free for 12 years), but I was freaked out this past summer after I fractured a vertebrae doing nothing! (Yeah, I have osteoporosis thanks to celiac disease!) Because...
  14. From what I've read, Cipro side effects can last or develop years after the first or several exposures. I have it listed in my charts as being allergic to it! As a runner, I can't imagine having my tendons snap and being permanently disabled! Ugh!
  15. Welcome! There's a newbie thread that is very helpful: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ I hope you feel better soon!
  16. Jello is okay, but I would be concerned as to what they are mixing it in, stirring it with, and solidifying it in (e.g. old Tupperware that has held gluten, wooden spoons, etc.)
  17. Pamela's gluten-free AP flour is terrific for cakes and cookies! I was a big baker prior to my diagnosis and I haven't had the courage (or energy) to take on bread. I rarely eat bread now and just buy commercial gluten-free bread for my husband. Good luck on your baking and skip the shortening too (not good for you) and use all butter in your recipe...
  18. Ah, special treats are needed for home and school. I use Pamela's gluten-free All purpose Flour for my muffin, cupcake, brownie and cookie recipes. I just converted directly from my old gluten recipes. In fact, my daughter (age 12) and I just consumed a chocolate mayonnaise cupcake before bedtime! Yum! My daughter is a gluten eater, yet she requests...
  19. This is a "wierd" response, but if you have any tendon issues, please don't take Cipro, an antibotic, (or any generic form of it) as it can "spontaneously snap" your tendons anywhere in your body. The FDA has a black box warning on this drug and you can research it yourself. I developed neuropathies after taking it. Thankfully, my symptoms went away a...
  20. I agree with Shadow. Plan for the future. When they get to the upper grades, your daughter might get a kooky teacher who penalizes your child for absences by slamming them with extra homework or requiring them to make up all work when the curriculum/homework is already too rigorous. We experienced this last year -- I kid you not!
  21. Mail off a thank you card and then re-gift the furniture or donate it to charity for Christmas. I don't think you'll be able to change your mother-in-law. If she really was concerned about your children's health, she would educate herself. If it were an honest mistake, then when she asks about the furniture, you could sweetly explain to her that it...
  22. Just freeze the oats. I have not been able to eat them yet. Diarrhea at just a month seems normal. Again, more time is needed. I think your doing too much. If you had just given birth, would you still be pushing so hard? At the expense of your baby? If you were under going cancer treatment? Your healing might take longer at the rate you are pushing...
  23. I'd try a gluten free diet, but you must strictly adhere to it and give it six months or so. If it is DH, it can take much longer to resolve (based on past postings from DH members). Search the forum for DH advice. The diet has got to be better than taking drugs that can have long term side effects. Good luck to you! By the way, my husband took...
  24. I started taking extra magnesium and B-12 (based on input here on this forum) and it's helped my achy/tingling legs. Unfortunately, my docs are not supplement savvy which is a shame. I think supplements when first diagnosed will speed up healing. Good luck!
  25. Another endoscopy? A HIDA scan to check for a non-functioning gallbladder (indigestion, nausea). Not sure if you're a girl or not, but checking out your ovaries too (long shot!)
