ARCHIVED Dagoba Cacao Powder?
cyclinglady replied to BelleVie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Laura's right. Try another product. Or have some gluten-free chocolate. I will say that the only food that my husband can not eat besides gluten, is chocolate! Ugh! Let's hope this isn't the case for you. -
ARCHIVED Doctor Trying To Diagnose Me With A Somatization Disorder
cyclinglady replied to lovechild's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
First of all, "it's not all in your head". That's just a cop out for a doctor who's at a loss for diagnosing you correctly! Terminate your relationship with him ASAP but not before getting copies of everything single thing in your file (including all labs). I had a doctor like that once, but fortunately, my husband told him off! It was not in my head... -
Thanks for the update! I'm glad you are finally getting some answers and help! Yes, it's hard at first going gluten free and it's a pain to eat out easily, but at least this is an illness that you can treat with good wholesome food! Things could be worse! Claire's finally going to start feeling better and so will you! Continue to do as much...

ARCHIVED Anyone Have Iron Deficiency Anemia As Only Sign Of Celiac?
cyclinglady replied to MoMof2Boyz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In any case, find out the root cause of your anemia. Don't just let the docs prescribe iron pills! Good luck! -
ARCHIVED Help With Lab Results
cyclinglady replied to mta-464683's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good catch on the T3 and T4 levels. For 20 years mine have never been off, so I don't think about it. Thanks! -
I buy pre-packaged gluten-containing foods for my daughter to take to school. No gluten bread or anything that will crumble. I also purchase cookies, but keep them in a separate area/container and I don't let her eat them walking around the house and she must wash her hands when she gets home from school and after eating a rare gluten snack. Most...

ARCHIVED Probiotic Back Pain?
cyclinglady replied to Newtoitall's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've never had any issues with probiotics and I've taken them in many forms. Maybe something else? -
ARCHIVED Ovarian Cancer Symptoms Mirroring gluten-free Or Celiac?
cyclinglady replied to vallene45's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, the symptoms are very similar (gastro). I'm sorry to hear about your sister. Be sure to get checked yourself! -
ARCHIVED Hip Pain At 23..help
cyclinglady replied to Laurenskii's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
All good advice! Maybe you should get a bone scan. Folks with celiac disease, even if they are kids, can have osteopenia or osteoporosis. Your doctor may want you to add in more calicium in the form of supplements until you are properly absorbing vitamins and minerals, etc. -
ARCHIVED Is This Celiac?
cyclinglady replied to AaronM761138's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It might be best to continue to eat gluten until you get the Celiac Blood panel results. If it's positive for Celiac Disease (celiac disease), your doctor may add another endoscopy to your upcoming colonoscopy appointment. If so, you'll need several tissues samples from the small intestine to confirm celiac disease. Then you can go gluten free! Welcome... -
ARCHIVED Help With Lab Results
cyclinglady replied to mta-464683's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm going to defer the celiac lab result questions to some of our experts! I will say that your TSH is high. The current range is between 1 - 3. I feel best personally, being closer to a 1. Were you tested for thyroid antibodies? Both my brother and I were diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis when we were in our 30's. So, it's not unusual for men... -
ARCHIVED How To Investigate A Celiac Diagnosis W/o Eating Gluten?
cyclinglady replied to NanaV's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
100 people? It only takes one gluteny kid to spread crumbs in your own kitchen! Seriously, you have to hit 100% -- not 98% to be gluten free. I think that you'll find your RA or fibromyalgia symptoms will diminish or even go away completely if you are 100% gluten free. You might have some food intolerances too (e.g. nightshades: potatoes, tomatoes... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Iron Deficiency Anemia As Only Sign Of Celiac?
cyclinglady replied to MoMof2Boyz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I suppose you could be absorbing some iron depending on the severity of intestinal damage. I would absorb the iron and my levels would improve within a month or so, but once I stopped the iron, my ferritin levels decreased. Are the doctors sure you have iron deficiency anemia? It could be anemia due to a Thalassemia trait? Might be worth researching... -
ARCHIVED Gastro Said I 'probably' Dont Have Celiac Desease? Please Read
cyclinglady replied to Miss-Marie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Is there anyway you can get copies of your lab tests and make an appointment with another doctor to review the results? It would be worth paying out-of-pocket for a visit or discuss it with your GP who might not be an "expert" but could discuss with other doctors in the practice (or research it). A colonoscopy isn't bad if you are sedated (knocked out... -
ARCHIVED My New Go-To Bread Crumbs Sub
cyclinglady replied to annajazz's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I save the ends of my loaves I purchase and keep them in the freezer. When I accumulate a bag full, I run it in the food processor (or crunch it up in a plastic bag using a rolling pin). Good tip on the crushed Chex!- 11 replies

ARCHIVED Does Bob's Red Mill All Purpose Smell Funny To You?
cyclinglady replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It's okay. It's the beans. I used this flour when I first started making gluten-free stuff for my husband 12 years ago. He only asked for apple raisin spiced cupcakes and all the spices pretty much masked the bean flour. Now I use a few other flour blends (all-purpose) and mix in a portion of bean flour since I bought a ton of it (I store it in one of... -

Sounds like you guys are all getting back to good health! Just remember that it takes time to heal. You'll get there! Take it from me who's had to sit out when I have: delivered a baby via c-section had gallbladder surgery fractured a vertebrae It took time but the end result was that I went right back to my "game". It will come back!

ARCHIVED How To Investigate A Celiac Diagnosis W/o Eating Gluten?
cyclinglady replied to NanaV's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ugh! You couldn't PAY me to eat a buffet unless it was in a totally dedicated gluten free restaurant (are there even any of those around?) Reaction or not, you are more than likely causing damage. Each time you get glutened, it causes damage that take lots of time to heal. Did you say you have osteoporosis? How many fractures have you had? How many... -
ARCHIVED Question About Getting Tested.
cyclinglady replied to glutenfreemomma188's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, if you wanted to do an endoscopy you would have to do a gluten challenge. That means eating a couple of pieces of bread a day for two to three months. You are right that a biopsy is the "gold standard" for diagnosis, but you've been on the gluten-free diet for a long time. You have a Celiac Disease diagnosis and have been off gluten for a year... -
ARCHIVED Donuts Made W/ Yeast And Fried Question
cyclinglady replied to luvs2eat's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I admit that I'm a piggy! Ate about 8 Snickerdoodle cookies last night. They tasted so good fresh from the oven (and they were just sitting there on on the cooling rack calling to me! They taste great straight from the freezer, too! I'm going to break a tooth someday! Too impatient to wait for them to defrost! I ate a frozen brownie too. I have such... -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like Celiacs?
cyclinglady replied to Mrs.Patchon's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'd push for a Celiac blood test like the others folks have mentioned. Do it now before you take him off gluten for good. Why test? He's already doing better on the gluten-free diet, right? A formal diagnosis will be extremely helpful when he goes to school as well as getting support from extended family and friends in maintaining the gluten-free diet... -
ARCHIVED Donuts Made W/ Yeast And Fried Question
cyclinglady replied to luvs2eat's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I haven't made gluten-free donuts, but I used to make yeast jelly-filled donuts (paczki). They tasted like heaven, but only just fresh from cooling and filling. I didn't care for them an hour or so even (maybe I just stuffed myself so much that I got sick of them). Commercial bakers must use preservatives to keep donuts fresh for hours. It was a lot of... -
ARCHIVED Thanksgiving Dinner
cyclinglady replied to w8in4dave's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've been hosting Thanksgiving for decades! Since my husband's been gluten free, I prepared everything and prevented cross contamination. Now that I'm gluten free, no one brings anything with gluten into our house. I just prepare all the food. It's so much easier and everyone understands. That said, we are dining with gluten free extended relatives...
