  1. It's not hard. Make a list of all the things you can safely eat. Or....(thinking) put each food on a 5 x 7 card and then group them into four columns on your kitchen table. Group items you like together. Make a list. Post in in your kitchen, carry it in your purse, etc. Here's a sample: Day 1 -- beef, potatoes, green beans, lettuce, tomato, pears...
  2. Keep on top of the sleep apnea. My FIL has it and never treated it. He now has congestive heart failure. So, do some research on this subject. It really can affect your health (not just your employment!) Take care!
  3. No, I don't think there is a way around not ingesting gluten for a celiac blood test especially since you've been gluten-free for over a year. I've been diagnosed formally but my husband has not. He went gluten-free over 12 years ago at the advice of his GP and my allergist. He snored, had chronic sinus infections, felt like he had the "flu" and was...
  4. Another item in my medicine cabinet is pure Tea Tree oil. It works as an antibiotic and an anti-fungal. I apply it to my face during a flare-up. Works great for athlete's foot too! I always travel with my tea tree. My daughter uses it too and for a toner, she uses old-fashioned Dickenson's witch hazel.
  5. Not true! You'll be able to have sugar once again and the wine occasionally, if you don't mind a rosacea flare-up. Diflucan can be hard on your liver, but while you're on it (long term) your doctor should be ordering liver panels every four to six weeks. Nystatin is not a systemic fix. It only coats the digestive tract (e.g. good for oral thrush). ...
  6. She right. Sounds like she wants to be "one up on you". Sad. You really find out who are true friends when you get sick. Life's too short. Find a nice caring friend. In the meantime, we're here for you! (And if you were living near me, you could stop by for a cocktail, gossip, and complain about people all in the safety of my gluten free RV parked...
  7. Try rotating your foods. Per my doctor, it helps prevent/slow future allergies/intolerances from developing. At least until your system calms down. I did a four day rotation years ago when my allergies and intolerances were identified. I managed to do it for about 8 months to a year. It was worth it. I got healthy, had a baby and years later while going...
  8. I just had anemia when I was diagnosed (and a whacked out thyroid that had been under control for over 15 years). No tummy issues. However, I did develop tummy issues (indigestion, rock feeling in stomach) between my blood test and biopsy. I attribute my increasing symptoms to eating a loaf of bread a day (I kid you not!), cakes and cookies which was a...
  9. I have rosacea, except my face is completely clear unless I consume foods that trigger symptoms. This would include wine (sulfates and tannins) and garlic. I consume them and every single time my face breaks out (I get tiny pustules, yuck! besides the redness and inflammation. I used to purchase capryilic day cream from a pharmacy in Colorado and my doctor...
  10. That's great news! I'm so happy for your daughter! Good job, Mom!
  11. Get tested! Get an appointment with a GI. You have to be eating gluten -- so don't stop. There's a series of blood tests (Celiac Panel). Search for the tests on this forum or check out the University of Chicago's celiac website for the actual tests. It's obvious that your doctor is not celiac savvy. If you have celiac disease (I can only speak for...
  12. If I recall, my iron saturation levels were in the normal range. My hemoglobin was a 7 (range starts at 12 and up) and my ferritin (iron stores) a 2. I had to take constant breaks and was out of breath just talking. I am taking vitamin B-12 (5000 mcg, sublingual), and the calcium is because I fractured a vertebrae in June doing nothing! Many of...
  13. Had my gallbladder removed because it was at 0 percent functionality. I, too, think it was celiac related. The biopsy is important and it can access the amount of damage that you may have. My blood panel was mildly positive, but my biopsy showed moderate to severe damage. Let's see if it improves within the next few months! My husband went...
  14. The recipe sounds great. It's pretty much the old Tollhouse Chocolate Chip recipe except for the coconut. You do need to add xantham gum to help the dough bind but don't add it if you use an all-purpose gluten free flour that contains it. Just buy an all purpose flour (like Pamela's) that primarily contains rice and a blend of other flours. Bob's...
  15. Sorry that you're feeling so poorly! I think you'll feel much better when your anemia resolves. I was diagnosed in March and I have finally stopped being anemic! Yeah! I took/taking iron supplements, ate iron rich foods and also take a few other supplements (calcium, magnesium, B-12, a multi and probiotics) too. Coping? Just one day at a time...
  16. Halloween is truly magical around here. Neighbors decorate their homes and kids come into our neighborhood for three reasons: 1) homes are "city" plots, so more homes per block -- perfect for greedy kids, 2) hills, we're just a the base of some major hills, and 3) we have sidewalks. Part of our city is "country" so it's not super safe to walk the streets...
  17. I have bags of Tootsie products hidden from my hubby. Am the official census taker on my block -- 500 last year! Next block over gets over 1000 kids. Good thing tootsie is both cheap and gluten-free!
  18. My daughter takes L'il Critters Gummie Vites (multi and calcium). Cheap at Costco. They are gluten-free. She does not have celiac disease but I sneak them and have not been glutened.
  19. Asthma? Using an inhaler? Side effects from steriods can cause bruising and broken capillaries -- especially if you are vitamin and mineral deficient. Something else to think about!
  20. Ugh! I am sick of reading labels, but it's what we've got to do. Hope you're feeling better soon.
  21. Remember the old saying, "Everything in moderation"! I hope you figure it out!
  22. You should read the newbie thread and check out about.com for directions for making your kitchen gluten free. I've been gluten-free since March, but wasn't able to eat quinoa either. I"m hoping that I'll be able to do so, in a few more months once I've healed a bit more. You could also have a corn intolerance too. I'm suggested that you just stick to...
  23. It took me about six months to stop being anemic and I was taking iron supplements. Has the doctor suggested iron? Has he been tested for other vitamin and mineral deficiencies?
  24. She has been congested, right? Spitting? Eliminate all forms of milk for a while.
  25. No, but I have eaten at several Spaghetti Factories and have not been glutened. I have also been in their kitchen and they cook the pasta separately.
