ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed. Kind Of In Denial About It.
cyclinglady replied to Laudahwiz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum, and yes, you can vent all you want!!!! How lucky that your mom was able to diagnosis you! Most of us here have to deal for years with illness and then struggle to get a diagnosis. I had a biopsy done after my blood panel came back positive (just barely). One, I wanted to know the extent of damage and two, to help me wrap my... -
ARCHIVED I'm Not Hypothyroid... Right?
cyclinglady replied to moosemalibu's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's good news! You don't have Hashi's and your not hypothyroid. You're pretty young, right? My thyroid didn't start acting up until I was in my mid 30's. So, continue to keep an eye on it. My doc caught it by just feeling my thyroid (nodules). I didn't think I had any hypo symptoms, but did notice a dramatic difference when I started a tiny dose... -

We use Suave or Kirkland (Costco brand) shampoos and conditioners. Dove soap (no body washes) and Cerave as a lotion. Though J & J Baby lotion has a new "natural product" that lists all ingredients and their sources. We use Eos too. Banana Boat is our favorite sunscreen. I use the baby sunscreen for my face as it does not run into my eyes on... -
ARCHIVED Traveling For The Holidays.
cyclinglady replied to Googles's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Whatever you can stuff into your car! An extra pot or two and don't forget your own toaster. I just spent a weekend in a hotel with friends. I brought all my own food and used the microwave and my ice chest. We found one gluten free restaurant. No luck the second night, so I had a Go Picnic in my purse. It held me over while the rest of the gang dined... -

Maybe it's not lactose intolerance, but a milk allergy (casein and whey). That can cause inflammation -- that and many other foods that you might be intolerant to. GFinDC is right. You should have all copies of all your testing. There are many here who are good at interpreting lab results. In any case, consider going gluten free if you can't get...

ARCHIVED Test Results--Now Wondering Whether To Pursue Diagnosis!
cyclinglady replied to whitmore's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I take Armour Thyroid, but I did read that you can develop a rash from Synthroid. Not sure if that's helpful or not! I can tell you that I was diagnosed formally this year, however, my husband has been gluten free for 12 years. He did so at the advice of his GP and my allergist. His symptoms have gone away and he feels great except if he gets accidentally... -
ARCHIVED 16 Month Old With Probable Celiac Disease
cyclinglady replied to AGsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm so sorry to hear about your baby! My heart goes out to her! I don't have any personal experience (my daughter's 12 and does not have a gluten issue yet…), but besides the possibility of having Celiac Disease, your daughter should be checked for food allergies. Normally, no one is taken off gluten until all testing is done. Not sure why your d... -
ARCHIVED So Sick And Frustrated
cyclinglady replied to pghkid33's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry to hear that you are so ill. Unfortunately, I have not experienced comparable symptoms. Usually, my blood pressure drops very low after what I now know due a non-functioning gallbladder, along with Celiac Disease. Perhaps others on the forum may be able to help. Have you been diagnosed with Celiac Disease or had any of the blood tests/biopsies?... -
I agree with Frieze. My first line of defense for allergies is Benedryl (or generic version). I keep the kind that dissolve under the tongue with me in my purse.

ARCHIVED Am I Really Celiac?
cyclinglady replied to Nick-incollege's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Again, excellent advice! Okay, you don't have mono and that's good. I think it might be continued cross contamination. I ate yesterday at the local university. I went to the student dining room the day before and inquired about gluten free options. The chef assured me that I'd be okay and that they accommodate gluten free students all the time. So,... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge? Or Just Stay Off?
cyclinglady replied to capmish's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi! I was officially diagnosed this year, but my husband has been gluten-free for 12 years per the advice of his GP and my allergist. It was hard that first year he went gluten free, but we all made the adjustment. I admit, it's been way easier for the family/friends to accept my diagnosis though. Luckily, my family had food allergies too, so claiming... -
ARCHIVED 130 Days Without Cc... Reset
cyclinglady replied to EmiPark210's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is just me, but I only had anemia when I was diagnosed. Now, if I get accidentally glutened, I definitely get sick with tummy issues, body aches, fatigue and crazy itching on my arm, but no rash! Takes me about a week to feel good. Others here can be affected longer. My husband seems to recover in just a day or two, but he's been gluten-free for... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
cyclinglady replied to Mac0030's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Mac, When the tips of your villi are damaged, some of the first things not to get absorbed are calcium and iron, along with some enzymes like those that break down milk lactose. As your intestines heal, most folks here have been able to add dairy back in, but some do not (I'm still hoping). If dairy does not bother you, then keep eating it. A... -

ARCHIVED Am I Really Celiac?
cyclinglady replied to Nick-incollege's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Scott has given excellent advice. When I read your post, I thought about mono. Have you been tested for that? My teenage niece is on her second round of it. -
You are making progress! Yeah! When will she get scoped? She really needs to continue to consume gluten until all testing has been completed. I would hate for the biopsy to be negative and then have her go back on gluten only to have her get sicker. You would hate to trip that diabetes gene by not complying or addressing celiac disease issues. I don...

ARCHIVED Possible Gluten Sensitivity?
cyclinglady replied to viper's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The only sure way is to stick to the diet for more than six months. I am formally diagnosed but my husband is not. He has been gluten free for 12 years at the advice of his GP and my allergist. Yes. You can feel good and then feel awful in just a few minutes. Getting glutened, for me, can last a week or so. I hope you find relief! This forum has... -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated Test Results Help
cyclinglady replied to bekkaz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was formally diagnosed this year. My husband has been gluten free for 12 years at the advice of his GP and my allergist. He will never get tested formally. Why bother? He feels great. Eats gluten and gets sick. Give the diet a try for six months. It certainly sounds like you have celiac disease. Welcome! -
ARCHIVED Huge Painful Tummy After gluten-free Dinner. Now What?
cyclinglady replied to NanaV's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am guessing that the chef used gluten free ingredients, but cross contamination (cc) occurred. The chef did not do all the food prep alone. My second theory is a food intolerance. The third theory is that if you do have any intestinal damage, eating rich foods and gas forming veggies could be the culprit. My bet is cc. Hope you feel better soon... -
