  1. Are our families related? My husband's been gluten free for 12 years (no formal diagnosis) and since I was diagnosed with celiac disease in March, our entire house is now gluten free with a few exceptions. My 12 year has learned to adapt. I purchase gluten prepacked foods that she takes in her lunches. She eats gluten filled cookies, but only at...
  2. I'm pretty tired to respond, but I have to say that if you've been diligent about being gluten free for three years, you should not have any damage in your intestines. We have others here who have been scoped years later and their intestines show no damage. That said, you may be glutening yourself while living with gluten eaters. But, maybe not. You...
  3. Welcome! Take a deep breath! There are lots of folks (parents) who will be willing to respond to your posting (just give it a day or so). Your daughter has had a complete Celiac Blood panel several times since she's been three? Do you have the records? Are you sure they were testing for Celiac Disease? From my understanding, even though the...
  4. Here's a link to the University of Chicago's Celiac website that discusses the actual components of a Celiac Blood Test: http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/CDCFactSheets3_Antibody.pdf I don't think looking young is a celiac symptom. It's probably genetic. My niece and I are both young looking and our small statures just...
  5. The University of Chicago's Celiac website is a great place to start! Here's a link regarding the actual blood tests that your doctor can order. You must be eating gluten though (for a couple of months) in order to get a valid result. Open Original Shared Link If positive, you may need an endoscopy where the doctor should take up to six or seven...
  6. I was diagnosed formally in March, but my husband has been gluten free for 12 years based on advice from his GP and my allergist. There's no way he's ever going to do a gluten challenge, as he knows that gluten makes him sick. One benefit of being diagnosed formally, is getting support from family and friends. My husband hasn't always had that support...
  7. I'm not a doctor, but sure it's possible. You could also have something else like Fibromyalgia too. It's hard to say, but that answers your first question and third. From your previous posts, you mentioned that you have been gluten free for some time. You weren't sure you wanted to do a gluten challenge, but you were considering getting your children...
  8. Your doctors are wrong! You must be eating gluten to get an accurate result. Check out this link to the University of Chicago's Celiac Center regarding this issue: Open Original Shared Link
  9. Being at the "low" end of the range for iron is not ideal based on my research. I'm pretty sure that if you exert any energy (e.g. exercise) or have a heavy period, you'll gobble up your iron stores. That what happened to me during the past two years -- my ferritin levels kept going up and down. Unless your intestines are completely healed, your...
  10. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ I hope you feel better soon! Check out the above link that will take you to a thread within this forum. It contains tips about going gluten free and covers cross contamination. I never got migraines, but I know that each time I've been accidentally glutened -- my symptoms return stronger...
  11. I think you just need to give yourself more time to heal. There was a huge learning curve at the beginning for you and several "glutenings" and that probably set you back a bit. I'm assuming your iron levels and thyroid are okay. I've been at this since only March, but I have lived and cooked for a gluten free husband for over 12 years. Rest...
  12. My daughter did love baths, but she hated her car seat. We could never travel farther than what we could tolerate hearing which was about 20 minutes. I used to visit my mom and on the way home, I'd sing out loud to attempt to cover up her screaming and calm her. Didn't work though. She was a tiny baby and we weren't able to turn her car seat around until...
  13. For a month, you need to stick to a protein based diet rich in veggies and consume only one fruit per week. Then you can add back in more fruit but only a serving a day and whole gluten-free grains -- not gluten-free bagels or breads. Just simple whole foods. I think you can google the candida diet for more tips and advice. But, to keep from feeling...
  14. You have my sympathies! I was glutened at a Red Robin too. They do have gluten free procedures in place, but it's up to the employees to adhere to them. Red Robin was very nice and did apologize (after a scathing review on Yelp and FindmeGlutenFree). However, I'm going to re-gift the card they sent me. It's not worth taking a chance again. I find...
  15. It can take several weeks to three years depending on how badly your intestinal tract was damaged. It was a shame that he didn't run a Celiac blood panel. I'm officially diagnosed (blood test and biopsy) but my husband was not. He too, went off gluten at the advice of his doctor 12 years ago. He's doing great, but it was hard getting support from...
  16. That's great news! She's probably deficient in many things (your doctor should check or put her on "standard" dosages of gummy vitamins/minerals), so I'd let her eat lots of healthy food choices. Kids aren't hungry really, if they just want dessert. I'm glad she's feeling better!
  17. Sorry! Did not catch the DF "for dairy free" yogurt in your first posting. I hope you figure it out!
  18. Chili tonight! 500 Trick or Treaters will be dropping by. Feeding the neighborhood, so it's a couple of big pots. gluten-free cornbread and salad, plus, some brownies. Of course, we'll raid the candy from those kids who return to unload their loot! Happy Halloween! Dressing as Ma Ingalls from Little House on the Prairie.
  19. I had iron deficiency anemia. My last ferritin check came back at 55 (started at 2). Anemia was how I was diagnosed back at the end of March 2013 for celiac disease My doc recommended iron taken twice a day. I took a cautious approach. I took nothing -- no supplements for a month. Then I added in the iron taking only one a day with Vit. C at night prior...
  20. Try not eating any dairy (that includes yogurt, butter, etc.). You may have issues with casein or whey and not just a lactose intolerance. Avoid veggies that make you bloat like cabbage or broccoli. You might find that identifying food intolerances may help your acne. Keep a food journal. Good luck!
  21. Thanks for sharing!
  22. I'll add that you should be eating tons of vegetables and fruit too!
  23. Tea Tree Therapy, but any will do as long as it's in a brown bottle and comes from a safe place (Australia).
  24. Sugar does include fruit. I went on a four day rotational diet (had allergies and intolerances too) and kept to non-processed meat/fish and veggies. Only one piece of fruit a week. Did this for a month. Added in more fruit, whole grains, seeds, etc. after that first month. Avoided processed sugar (cakes, cookies, frozen desserts) for a year except on...
  25. I agree about the brining (and do it too), but the oven bag is a fabulous idea for cooking a turkey or roast at someone else's house! I'm going to do this at Christmas when I'm at my Mom's (was planning on putting her oven through the cleaning cycle on the first day of my arrival!)
