  1. How old is your wife? Besides, possible exposure to gluten in her diet, she may be experiencing issues with her thyroid or going through perimenopause. I was a crazy woman for the past two years due to the combination of all three issues! I was diagnosed in March, went gluten free, got back on hormone replacement therapy (to help build bone and sex drive...
  2. Congratulations! Sounds like typical pregnancy symptoms, but I wasn't diagnosed when I was pregnant. Now that I am diagnosed, I would seriously have a pre-meeting with the hospital's dietitian and the floor nurses to insure that they can handle your gluten free requirements. Make sure they really get it. That goes for anyone who plans on a hospital...
  3. Here's some answers to your questions, but I think you'll find that you'll just had to create your own path to wellness: Go Picnics are a nice handy lunch to keep on hand when traveling. Carry a little ice chest for cold veggies and fruit. Eat potato chips Drink soymilk/milk to fill up Yogurt Cheese if you aren't intolerant to milk Nuts if you're not...
  4. I can sort of relate. I was formally diagnosed this year, but my husband went gluten free over 12 years ago at the advice of his GP and my allergist. The first year was hard for him (lots of denial). He'd continue to sneak gluten and then he'd feel awful. It took about a year, and then he finally gave up gluten for good (except for getting "glutened...
  5. Put it in an ice chest. I always bring one to parties when I need to keep something cool. The host's refrigerator is often stuffed with food, so I can't count on that. I also drop an ice chest off at the school for parties. For potluck dinners, I usually bring chili, baked beans, salad, fruit, cheese, cookies, , wine, cupcakes (all gluten free, of...
  6. Glad you were able to identify the problem. I'm still holding on to my two cans of coconut milk hoping that I'll get to use them within a year!
  7. I think you will feel better soon! It takes time for vitamin deficiencies to improve. I had the tingling and achiness as well. I was worried that I might be getting fibromyalgia since my Mom has it (she tested negative for celiac disease). Those aches and tingling are dissipating slowly as well as the fatigue (assuming you don't have anemia or thyroid...
  8. Everything in moderation! Thanks for the input. It's been five days and I'm feeling better. Not sure if it's the xanthan gum or not. Will test it out later. I really don't think it's a gluten reaction since it's just contained in my actual stomach and not causing problems in other areas of my body.
  9. So sorry to hear about your mother. I haven't read about a link between Celiac Disease and Lewey Disease. Please continue to take the time to take care of yourself! Your mom's going to need you.
  10. Wow! Thanks for the update. Maybe, I'd still have my gallbladder if I had been diagnosed with celiac disease earlier!
  11. Wow! I'm so sorry to hear about your 10 year old. I'm sure others who have kids with celiac disease will chime in, but I believe the meds given to your son probably caused some side effects. The vertigo and migraines can be Celiac related and should dissipate in a few more days or weeks. And some people never have any symptoms! It's a strange disease...
  12. Just read the ingredients, but watch out for those with gravy packets stuffed inside. I pulled out a turkey a few months ago from my freezer and the package leaked! No turkey for me, but served it to my gluten loving friends and family.
  13. So, I've been sick for two weeks now. Not bad sick. My main and constant symptom is just pain (tolerable) in my stomach located upper left just where it connects to my small intestine. This is the same pain I developed after consuming copious amounts of gluten after I tested positive on my blood panel and prior to my endoscopy (prior to that I just had...
  14. Hey! Hosting Thanksgiving won't be bad! There are turkeys out there that are gluten free. You just have to check the labels. If folks want to bring something, ask them to bring beverages. Keep the menu simple: Turkey -- not stuffed obviously Gravy -- made with cornstarch Mashed potatoes Fresh Green Beans Creamed Corn (fresh or frozen and make...
  15. It might just be the quinoa. I can't tolerate it or oats, even if they are certified as "gluten free". Trader Joe's uses "g" symbol to say that the product doesn't contain gluten in the ingredients, but it's not certified. It can be made on shared equipment. Stick with just the plain corn chips. We haven't been "glutened" by them.
  16. Wow! I stand corrected! Hope I'm still going strong at 87!
  17. It's hard to get old people to change (I know because I'm getting there.....)
  18. A blood test for estrogen just captures a moment in time. Perimenopause is roller coaster ride of hormonal fluctuations. The good news is that you can deal with the night sweats and they may dissipate for a while. My symptoms would come and go over a course of 12 years. If your quality of life takes a nose dive, you can consider hormone replacement therapy...
  19. I bought some coconut oil. Started baking with it. Tried even some coconut milk and coconut "yogurt". I determined that it made me sick. If it's not coconut, it could be the nuts. You can develop intolerances at any time. Here's another thought. All that coughing....hiatal hernia? Good luck! Glad to see that going gluten free is making...
  20. Wow! When I posted earlier, I remembered that one of my co-workers (not a bright one) had contact issues and the problem was her old and long-expired cleaning solution. When I saw your posting today, I recalled trying some new contacts and I couldn't keep them in my eyes for more than a hour or so. My doc told me these particular new silicone based contacts...
  21. I second that!
  22. I'm so sorry that you're not feeling well. I've been gluten-free for over seven months now and I've just started having upper stomach problems for the last two weeks. I know I'm adhering to the diet since I haven't been eating out and I've successfully kept my husband on a gluten-free diet for the past 12 years. I plan on going to my GI next week...
