  1. I always have cooked the noodles separately and then added them in before serving. With the leftovers, I can add rice and change it up!
  2. I don't have DH, but It looks more like folliculitis (staph infection) which can be cured with a round of antibiotics. You said they were painful -- not EXTREMELY OR INSANELY itchy, right? I hope you feel better soon!
  3. I'm so sorry that you're in so much pain! I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like fibromyalgia. I don't have it, but my mother does. She has her good days and bad, but she manages. She was involved in a local university group who is doing research before moving away. I've been in one of their research programs. They have some links to support groups...
  4. You should always insist on getting copies of all lab work done on you. If you change doctors, you have a history of your lab results. "Pretty sure and I suspect" just doesn't cut it when you're trying to find out why you're sick!
  5. Karen's right! But speaking to your last symptoms, have you had your thyroid tested? Feeling jittery, fatigued and having muscle weakness can be sign of Grave's Disease (or hyperthyroid). You need to find a doctor who's willing to run some basic diagnostic tests.
  6. You need more thyroid medication! Did they test just for TSH or did they do an antibodies test on your thyroid as well? This will determine if you have autoimmune thyroiditis -- not just hypothyroidism. Your doctor should be testing your thyroid every six weeks to make sure the dosage is correct until you have stable lab results. Obviously, it's not...
  7. Although accurate, the genetic test will only tell you if you carry the genes for celiac disease. It won't tell you if you have celiac disease. You'll need to ask for the celiac blood test panel which NVSMOM listed. Based on those results, you may or may not need a biopsy.
  8. Bake on the weekends. I only bake cupcakes or muffins instead of cakes so that I can easily freeze them (good for portion control). I freeze all my cookies too. Try one of the Betty Crocker cookie or cake mixes. It's easy to do and they are pretty good -- much better than any store bought cookie or cake!!!!! Later, you can make your own homemade versions...
  9. Sticking, especially with cookies, is different. Solved that by always using parchment paper (relatively cheap at Costco) to line my baking sheets and pans.
  10. First of all, if you have celiac disease you can't cheat -- EVER! Not even a little bit. If you want a celiac disease diagnosis, you need to have a complete celiac panel run. Any doctor can order it but you have to be eating gluten for many weeks. A genetic test will only determine if you have the CHANCE of developing celiac disease. It's typically...
  11. Hummm.....let's see if anyone else who has this issue will respond. Sorry I couldn't help!
  12. It doesn't sound gluten related. A change in your diet (e.g. consuming lots of garlic)? When was your last visit to the dentist celiac disease patients can have issues with gum disease due to being malnourished. I stepped up my visits to three times a year instead of two temporarily.
  13. I think that I coaxed my gallbladder along for years after I identified foods that bothered me. But, waking up in the middle of the night can definitely be a sign of a non-functioning gallbladder. I'm glad you're feeling better today.
  14. Yes, you would leave so that I'd have time to bake some other delicious gluten-free baked good! And....if it's later in the day, a glass of wine or a nice cocktail! If I could just get back cheese!!!
  15. I agree with everyone! I've been fortunate (I guess) that my husband has been gluten-free for 12 years. No, he wasn't officially diagnosed, but went gluten-free at the suggestion of my allergist (MD) and his GP (MD). Through trial and error that first year, we both finally got the diet down. Now after all these years and my official diagnosis, he...
  16. Let's be positive! At least you're getting a HIDA scan. A non-functioning gallbladder can cause serious problems! I had mine out 7 years ago and the HIDA scan showed 0% functionality! The pain was so severe that I passed out! It's a family curse but all other previous scans/tests showed that I didn't have stones and that it looked okay. It took years...
  17. Lots of times, after you get a diagnosis and have eliminated gluten, you find that you had "hidden" food intolerances. Your best bet is to avoid those foods that produce symptoms. You may be able to rotate them in and out of your diet every four or seven days while you're healing or you might not be able to get those foods back. I can't have eggs, milk...
  18. Since you are not going to see your doctor for another two months, call and ask for copies of all your past lab results. Unless you have been diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia, I wouldn't start taking iron supplements. Included in the iron panel, your doctor should test for ferritin. Why not take a supplement? You could have anemia, but it could be...
  19. Don't give up on corn tortillas! They should be fresh and heated on the stove in a pan or we just put it directly on the grating of our gas stove top. Don't scorch them but heat until they begin to bubble and turn a few times. Use two corn tortillas to hold your filling -- especially when it's wet with salsa. Homemade tortillas are the best, but usually...
  20. Glad that your local Costco carries the grain free food. I certainly don't want to get "glutened" while feeding my dog. Never had to worry about kids getting into the dog food. My lab gobbles her food down in 60 seconds! Then she licks her empty bowl periodically throughout the day (hoping that a smidge was left behind) and then carries it around...
  21. I stopped drinking after my diagnosis in March. It didn't agree with me. Started up at the end of summer, but just one drink -- rarely. That's because no one else drinks in my immediate family. I drink more on vacation. Anyway, I'd worry more about soda pop. It's not good for the bones. We banned it from our house over a decade ago. I read a...
  22. I haven't tested my daughter yet. Have you read any of the "The Patent Celiac" blogs on this forum? They are written by Jebby who's a Pediatrician and has four small children. Here's one about testing: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/blog/1038/entry-1849-should-your-kids-be-screened-for-celiac-disease/ Read them all!
  23. As a mother of a "geriatric lab", I feed her a grain free dog food I purchase from Costco. It's actually a Kirkland brand and much cheaper than the grain free foods found at feed and specialty stores.
  24. If you did not test positive for Celiac Disease, you may have a gluten intolerance. There's no known scientifically supported test for this. Just strict avoidance and then see how you feel! IGg testing is not supported by many professional groups (e.g. American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology). You've got the IGg results and it wouldn...
