Holy Mackeral! I totally could have written your post a year ago. That was one of the reasons I wanted an official diagnosis too - because I didn't want him glutening my kids every time they went over to his crappy divorced father apartment for visitation. Last October, my husband yelled at me for an hour and a half telling me that I was a hypochondriac...

ARCHIVED Gluten-intolerance Despite Test Results?
Nantzie replied to susanmarie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had negative test results for celiac, but went gluten-free anyway just to see if it helped. Thank God I did. My life completely changed. Read my sig line for more. Nancy -

Grape Koolaid does it to my kids every time. Blue (from the koolaid) + yellow (-ish-brown) = green Nancy -
I've had some symptoms ever since I could remember, like sleep problems, memory problems and difficulty concentrating. I've had digestive problems ever since I had mono at age 17. The symptoms that basically had me house-bound have been just since having kids. 30-second warning D since I had my daughter, and then chronic pain since about three...

ARCHIVED Beware Of Dasani Water On Your Flight
Nantzie replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I haven't had any perceptible reaction to Dasani, at least in my experience. But even just drinking it a few times I've found it to be horrid stuff. Very distasteful. I'd MUCH rather have tap water. Even with that, I don't know why it surprises me so much that it has ingredients in it other than water. That's disgusting. Water should be water.... -
Ya know, I was wondering who those other gorgeous, happy people were. I knew it was from your recent trip, but never asked. Not that anyone else here (dozens?) need to put up a picture. No presha. Nancy

ARCHIVED Artificial Nails?
Nantzie posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just recently started getting my nails done (pink and whites). The first time I had them done, I wasn't having any problems. But this last time I seem to be getting glutened a lot. I was trying to figure out what I was eating, but it's been happening so much that I've started wondering if it was my nails themselves, or maybe the topcoat? Nancy -
Yea, I was hoping (okay, praying...) Hidden Valley would be safe but I got the same info on the phone - trace levels. And when I tried it (just in case... ) I got sick as a dog. Nancy

ARCHIVED Is Gluten Free Gravy A Myth?
Nantzie replied to FeedIndy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I found gluten free gravy (ready to eat) at Safeway today. It was in their natural food section. Pacific Foods makes it. It was in a smallish box (like they use for soy milk). Three flavors - Chicken, Turkey and Beef. I haven't tried it yet, but I may just have to make mashed potatoes this week so I can try it. I checked Pacific Foods website... -
ARCHIVED Celebrities With Celiac?
Nantzie replied to lauderdalehawk44's topic in Publications & Publicity
I was wondering the same thing. Saw her on E! News and she said something about it being hard to be scrutinized when you're trying to do something about it. The poor woman looks so unhealthy and exhausted. Wouldn't surprise me... Nancy -
ARCHIVED How Do I Know If Gluten-free In Working?
Nantzie replied to celiac-in-WV's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You know, that's a tough one. I've always thought that it must be hardest for people who don't have symptoms. I think with the information you get on this message board, you end up being very well informed. If you haven't already, you will learn about things like cross contamination, getting a new toaster, cutting boards and wooden spoons, and checking... -

ARCHIVED I'm Tired Of Living Like This....
Nantzie replied to shai76's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hugs... Sorry you're feeling crummy. I think until you do a challenge, either accidentally or on purpose, you really don't know the extent of how gluten effects you. It can be a frustrating thing to live with. I know for me, if it wasn't for the threat of getting so sick, I probably wouldn't be strict. Back when I was trying to lose weight before going... -
ARCHIVED Grilled Cheese And Tomato Soup
Nantzie replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like Pamela's Wheat Free Bread Mix. Smells, tastes and acts very much like wheat bread. I use it to make BLTs, PB&J, toast, really anything. Doesn't crumble or anything. It should work just fine. I haven't tried making Grilled Cheese with it, but it should work out just fine. Might have to try that out. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Is Gluten Free Gravy A Myth?
Nantzie replied to FeedIndy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Use Bob's Red Mill gluten-free flour. I use it exactly the same way I always did flour to make gravy from pan drippings, and to make sauces like cheese sauce for veggies and for mac and cheese. I heard about it from someone on here who said that it worked great. I didn't try it for a long time because I figured there was no way it would be that ... -
ARCHIVED Entrolab Or Prometheus?
Nantzie replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would go to www.enterolab.com, and print out a bunch of information to give to the doctor. That's what I did when I gave my daughter's Enterolab results to her ped. He said that he had never heard of them, but that since it's an accredited lab, he trusts that the results are accurate. These are the pages I printed out for him - Open Original... -
Here is some more reading to do. It doesn't take gluten intolerance or those genes into account, but I think the more important thing is that they're trying to figure out the classic DQ2 / DQ8 celiac. Open Original Shared Link Especially: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Nancy

I've wondered the same thing. There must have been some sort of plague that resulted in a genetic mutation that made certain people basically become celiac, or some sort of mutation in the gluten crops themselves that made them a different thing altogether, which some people weren't effected by. There's got to be an answer. Here's a link that I found...

The food diary is an excellent idea. That's what I suggest to people who find that gluten doesn't seem to be a problem. I also had negative blood tests, negative biopsy and my genes came back gluten intolerant, not celiac. Read my sig line for more. Keep in mind that symptoms of being "glutened' arent' limited to gastro problems. Headaches, tiredness...

ARCHIVED New To Group/daughter's Blood Test Indicates Celiac
Nantzie replied to Kibbie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Tinkyada pasta is the way to go. That's probably the one your neighbor gave you. It's pretty easy to find in health food stores, and I've even seen it in some mainstream grocery stores. Gluten free pantry also makes a good french bread and pizza crust mix. My favorite bread, which comes as close as I've ever tasted to the taste and texture of... -
ARCHIVED New To Group/daughter's Blood Test Indicates Celiac

You're at the best place to learn about this. My advice is to read, read, read on this site. I know this can be overwhelming at first, and there's a lot of stuff to learn. But don't worry, within a month, you'll be on here giving advice too. It's easy once you get the hang of it. Let's start with her favorite foods. What are her favorite things... -
ARCHIVED Mikey's Enterolab Is Positive
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's very true. Sometimes Jenny is more strict with her little brother than I am. I agree too that it would be a little easier if he did have more symptoms. I always feel lucky in a way that my reaction to gluten is so quick because I'm always pretty sure about what glutened me when it happens. It must be a lot more difficult for people with delayed...
