ARCHIVED Glutenyzme Plus
Nantzie replied to Guhlia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yea, I think that's what everybody is hoping for someday. Something that would allow the occasional yummy cheat without the antibodies attacking the intestines. I'm a big proponent of alternative medicine, supplements, etc. But since this is just something that helps DIGEST the gluten, it wouldn't do anything to block the body's autoimmune reaction, and... -
ARCHIVED Small Amounts Of Gluten Safe?
Nantzie replied to DQ1Squared's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yea, I'm really, REALLY tempted to do the same thing - skipping the endo and getting the rest of the full panel from Enterolab. I also did a websearch on DQB1*0602 and found a lot of interesting things about it, including that it actually helps protect against diabetes. Who'da thought? Here's the search page - Open Original Shared Link Nancy -
ARCHIVED Need Some Reassurance...
Nantzie replied to covsooze's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you know what exact tests you had? Some of them are more specific to celiac than others. Given that you have a family history, and you've had symptoms for years, I think that it's pointing toward celiac. I do know what you mean about kind of hoping you have celiac. I felt the same way, and was kind of embarassed about it, because nobody really... -
ARCHIVED Small Amounts Of Gluten Safe?
Nantzie replied to DQ1Squared's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi! I've got DQ1 also. I'm just learning about all of this too. Someone on this board posted this link about gluten sensitivity as a neurological illness, which it seems is more of a problem with DQ1, at least that is what I've noticed on this board. Open Original Shared Link I also see that you have a positive tTG though. From what I've... -
ARCHIVED Mini Gluten Challenge
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm definitely going gluten-free. I have an appt with a GI in late January and getting the biopsy soon after. I got a referral from my doctor a couple months ago, but she said that the GI office gets all the insurance stuff and then calls ME to set the appt. Turns out they had a really old phone number of mine, so things got messed up. But everything... -

ARCHIVED Mini Gluten Challenge
Nantzie posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For about a day and a half last week I did a trial of seeing how I feel off gluten. I just ate naturally non-gluten stuff and some Tinkyada. I felt incredible. The last time I had that much energy was when I was a little kid. I felt like I was even able to concentrate better. I wasn't in pain. I just felt like a completely different person. My... -
ARCHIVED Kinnikinnick Has New Products That Look Tasty.
Nantzie replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, my name is Nancy, and I'm an information junkie (and and insomniac). So yea... I looked the origin of the word Loo up for you. Looks like there are a few interesting theories. The most popular, it seems, is that it came down over the years from a French phrase - gardez l'eau - which means "watch out for the water" Open Original Shared Link... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Get Unnaturally Excited...
Nantzie replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, I just got my first ever box of Kinnikinnick stuff, and one of my friends stopped by when I was doing my taste test. I was so happy and was trying everything. She tried a couple things and agreed that they were pretty good, but my exhuberance and experience was a little beyond her. The cinnamon rolls are really good. And this comes from... -
ARCHIVED I'd Like Opinions On Enterolab Tests
Nantzie replied to CMCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I haven't done the tests that Enterolab does themselves, BUT I did order my genetic tests through them. They actually send out their genetic tests to be done by Laboratories at Bonfils. So when you get your genetics through Enterolab, it's actually Labs at Bonfils that does it. I found Labs at Bonfils' website and I was very impressed by them. www... -
ARCHIVED Anyone's Child Have Sandy Or Grainy Stools?
Nantzie replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter has grainy stools sometimes too, but not all the time. I haven't had her tested for anything yet, but I'm pretty sure it's gluten or food intolerance related. Sometimes there are little tiny bits of undigested food on her bottom and it takes forever to get all the little pieces off because they don't want to stick to the wipe. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Desperate For Advice
Nantzie replied to blondie5star's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was just looking up something else celiac related, and came across a website that was really out of date as far as the current information about celiac, but DID mention leg swelling as a sign of celiac. -
You should talk to your doctor about it. It can be a sign of a bladder or kidney infection. Here's a page from the Mayo Clinic that tells what some specific smells can be signs of. Open Original Shared Link Nancy

ARCHIVED Getting celiac disease On National Radio
Nantzie replied to RiceGuy's topic in Publications & Publicity
Just did a little extra search on the website that has Dr. Dean - healthcentral.com. This is healthcentral.com's explanation of celiac. ARCHIVED Getting celiac disease On National Radio
Nantzie replied to RiceGuy's topic in Publications & Publicity
I've always thought that the radio host that we should get to do this is Dr. Dean Edell Open Original Shared Link . He's got a medical radio show that I honestly can't freaking stand. I've only heard it a couple of times on road-trips with my husband, so I'm not an authority on him, but he's the type of doctor who is really bad about putting down... -
ARCHIVED Got My Genetic Results
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Berneses - I'm so sorry about your mom. It's just horrible. I just hope that with finding out about celiac early in our lives, we'll all be healthier. I am seeing little glimpses of my husband's feelings. I do think that he's more scared than anything. Him blowing everything off just makes me feel like I have to go through this alone and I can't... -
Okay, I have to admit that I was a little leary about trying Tinkyada pasta. Everyone here says that it's great pasta, but I figured that there would have to be a pretty significant taste and/or texture difference between pasta made from wheat and pasta made from rice. I figured that with a tomato sauce or any heavy sauce you really don't taste the pasta...

I've been thinking a lot about this because I have a lot more neuro symptoms than I do digestive symptoms. I also have a first cousin with MS. When I did my genetics testing, I found out that I don't have the main celiac genes that they look for, but I do have DQ1 subtype 0602. Enterolab says that this gene is one of the ones that causes gluten sensitivity...

ARCHIVED Weight Loss Supplement
Nantzie replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Karen - my boobs got bigger too!!! Hmm... Makes you wonder. Bigger boobs was the very LAST thing I wanted though, because mine were always big to begin with. Now people who don't know me assume I've got implants. Not fun. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Weight Loss Supplement
Nantzie replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh My Gosh! I never knew that prednisone could make you gain weight!!! That must have been what happened to me. I had slowly gained some weight in my late 20's. But then about three weeks before my wedding I broke out in really bad hives. They were all over, even on my face. The doctor put me on a course of prednisone. I gained at least 5 pounds... -
I'm interested too! My mom made Lefse only a couple of times while I was growing up. It was SO GOOD. I was at the grocery store tonight and they had Lingonberry jam. I'm drooling already... Nancy

ARCHIVED Got My Genetic Results
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The thing is that he's VERY smart. He understands all of it. It's just hard-core denial. He does the same thing with his parents smoking. He'll sit there and wax poetical that smoking doesn't cause lung cancer because people who never smoked also get lung cancer, so it must mean that his parents don't have any more risk of developing lung cancer... -
ARCHIVED Got My Genetic Results
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The biggest reason I decided to do the genetics before I did anything else was because I was getting so little support and a lot of eye rolling and accusations of being a hypochondriac by my husband and his family that I was starting to doubt my own symptoms. I really just wanted to make sure I was barking up the right tree, ya know? Now that I know... -
ARCHIVED Got My Genetic Results
Nantzie posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I got my genetic results from Enterolab (via Laboratory at Bonfils) : Gene Test for Gluten Sensitivity Molecular analysis: HLA-DQB1*0602, 0609 I've been trying to translate this, and from what I can figure out, I've got double copies of DQ1 subtype 6. Which means both of my parents carried at least one DQ1 gene, and all of my kids will have at least... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Their Legs Collapse On Them?
Nantzie posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A few months ago, before I found out about celiac, I woke up out of a sound sleep to the phone ringing. I jumped out of bed, and my legs collapsed right out from under me. I just dropped like a sack of potatoes. I thought at first that my legs were just asleep, but once I dragged myself back into bed (using nothing but my arm strength), I felt my legs...
