  1. Can I blame my PMS on doctors too? That would really help out my personal situation a lot.
  2. The reason I think it could be an allergy (and I'm not a doctor, so I obviously don't know with any degree of certainty) is because you seem to be reacting really strongly to topical wheat/gluten. From what I understand, most celiacs will not react to gluten on the skin--it's only once it has been ingested that it causes problems. Anyway, it's worth checking...
  3. Well you could get tested for wheat allergies, which would not require you eating gluten.
  4. This one is totally out there, as it involves a language barrier, being in a foreign country, AND celiac. Last week, my boyfriend met a couple of really nice Korean guys and they've invited us over to one guy's home for dinner this weekend. It will be a full family affair, wives, kids, dogs, sounds like lots of fun and I'm really looking forward to making...
  5. I'd sure love some folks to have dinner parties with.
  6. Ah, in re-reading your post, I see that you have been eating gluten free for some time, which means that an endoscopy might come up negative. But it might not. That's what is so frustrating about diagnosing celiac!! Honestly, I'll just repeat what I said, which is that you have to be your own best friend, your own advocate, and your own health guardian...
  7. Hi clairelouise, welcome to the forum! It really sucks that you've had to go through so much pain and suffering, but hopefully you are now beginning to figure out some answers and are finding your way back onto a pathway that will lead you toward health. I'm sorry that your mom hasn't been so understanding. I am also from a family that finds it difficult...
  8. I agree with Hbunting86. My mouth may water when I look at something "tasty" like that, but on a deeper level, I don't desire those foods because I know they will make me feel horrible. I value feeling like I am thriving in my life, rather than the brief pleasure of something sweet. Before I figured out that gluten was making me sick, I was still constantly...
  9. Fair 'nuf.
  10. I wasn't saying that the information that I found was fact...just pointing it out as the only info I could find regarding the idea of wheat additives in bottled water.
  11. I hear ya. "Slams head against wall."
  12. I was just too intrigued by this and had to research it. I came across a blog on which the poster said that while on a road trip, she drank bottled water provided by her hotel. The poster has a wheat allergy and went into anaphylaxis. She apparently went online and read about the process used to add minerals back INTO the water, and one of the ingredients...
  13. True, 4dave, but I also think that a lot of people actually have a lot of symptoms that aren't recognized AS symptoms because they have always been the norm. Before I began looking into gluten intolerance/celiac disease, my stomach always cramped severely after eating gluten heavy meals like pancakes or pasta. I had NO IDEA that it wasn't normal for your...
  14. Thanks everyone. Yeah, after my sister told me she was very happy for my changes being made with my "new disease" and glad that I was changing my diet, she said "please don't push it off on others like a religion." Ouch, that hurt. I know there are some people who can get pushy with diets, and I used to be a raw-foodist/vegan, and admit that I was once one...
  15. I'm confused. The bottle of cinnamon vanilla stevia that I ordered from iherb says it's produced in a GMP facility that also produces allergens, but that it is gluten free. First question is, do all of you generally avoid things that are made on shared equipment, or is this a no-no? Also, it says it contains 11% alcohol. Wouldn't that mean it is grain...
  16. To add to this, I said my piece to my family. I wrote an email explaining everything and sent some links to the Uni of Chicago's info sheet website. I'm not going to be pushy or mention it ever again. But it makes me feel sad and angry to be brushed off, especially by my family.
  17. A major reason that I went through a challenge to get testing done was so that I'd have some leverage backing my requests that my family members get tested for celiac. Lo and behold, a positive test result...and they still don't care a bit. This topic has been kicked around quite a bit on here, I know, but I'm just venting. I just can't, can't, can't understand...
  18. From what I understand, celiac damage typically is not visible to the naked eye, so it's quite possible that everything looks dandy at first glance, but could actually be amiss. I'm so glad you don't have Crohn's or any other serious bowel problems! Let us know your results!
  19. Do you think it could be related to an ovarian cyst? I had a cyst a few years ago that didn't go away, and it caused a lot of tightness and cramping in that area. An ultrasound at your gynecologist's office should be able to see if anything is amiss in there!
  20. I had never heard of it before, which is why I was so surprised when my doctor showed me the images. And I was just so impressed with my doctor! He spent an HOUR with me explaining everything he looked at and all of his results. He even got out a sketchpad and drew a few diagrams for me!
  21. Thank you, everyone. I'm really looking forward to getting healthy for good! Greenbeanie, my pathology report just says "Duodenum, site unstated, blunting of villi, increased intraepithelial lymphocytes in tip of villi/suggestive of celiac disease." I was under the impression that that duodenal bulb was the most likely place to find damage. Is it possible...
  22. Are you taking any supplements? Maybe try a B vitamin supplement? I've heard they are very good for helping to increase your energy.
