  1. I've heard this too. My son who has celiac has long, beautiful lashes. Can't believe I'm saying this but I guess this disease has a benefit!
  2. Your son is in a very decent percentile for weight. After 8 months gluten-free, my son has gained about 8 pounds but I think it's because I just live to feed him. His gastro tells me I'm going to ruin him this way. He says I should just leave him alone, let him eat however much gluten-free foods he wants, and just let him be. I wish I were more like ...
  3. I just heard that from a man who has celiac and has been gluten free for many years now. His reaction to gluten is anaphylaxis. Yikes! My little boy has been gluten-free for 8 months now, and although I don't think he has DH, I've noticed that for the longest time he has tiny bumps on the skin of his face (which you can only see if you get really close...
  4. In my quest to make a decent gluten-free bread, I have tried pretty much every brand. My favorite is by Authentic Foods Brown Rice Flour Super Fine. This flour has been recommended by every gluten-free cookbook author I know of. You have to order it directly from Authentic Foods, it's a bit expensive but it is PREMIUM and worth it. With it, I was able...
  5. Say it isn't so! Now you have to start all over again. Remember, this isn't a diet like others where you can cheat occasionally. Hopefully you'll feel better in a few days, but it'll take at least 6 months to a year to fix any damage those brownies did. BTW, The Gluten Free Pantry makes a chocolate truffle brownie to die for. Honestly, my friends have...
  6. My little boy, who has Celiac, also had bleeding in his stool when he was born. After changing his formula to a hypoallerginic kind (no milk or soy) it finally disappeared. His doc said it was a "casein" allergy. He also had blood on the tp a few times after starting the gluten-free diet, as he ate mostly rice. I think he may have hemorroids. I agree...
  7. I'm at work late and this post is making me very hungry Anyway, I wish I could make this dish, but I'm not the most talented of cooks (quite lazy too). It sounds so good that I might attempt to try it, though. A few months back, we ordered a pie crust mix from the Gluten Free Pantry. Haven't tried it because I'm still trying to recover from all of the...
  8. Chelse, sorry you feel so sick. By your description, I can now understand what my poor 7 year old son goes through. Though he's been gluten-free for almost 8 months now, he still feels the same way from time to time. And it is so frustrating because I know he's not getting cross contaminated. I've devoted my life to feeding this child. I even take his...
  9. Welcome aboard Carol! First, my little boy, who has Celiac, also had bleeding in his stool when he was born. The doctors said it was a casein allergy, and it went away after we switched his formula 8 times. I was shocked and saddened that my breast milk was not the perfect food for my baby. I'm wondering if maybe you were allergic to casein too and they...
  10. Thank you! My kids will love this.
  11. Hi everyone. We went on a picnic last week, and the food was boring at best. I packed cut up fruit, cheese sticks, chips and gluten-free cream soda. What they really wanted was fried chicken, but let's face it. My gluten-free fried chicken tastes like nothing and loses most of it's coating by the time I've taken it out of the fryer. Any delicious ideas...
  12. I've learned a lot from your posts, thank you to all. But for those who said a thread on "religion" shouldn't have been started, my question did not even involve religion. I just wanted to know what jobs my son would never be able to do.
  13. If you can eat dairy, try Haagen Daaz (sp?) ice-cream. All ice-creams are definitely not created equal. Haagen Daaz has about twice the calories as other ice-creams and 2 - 3 times the fat. Try the vanilla bars covered in chocolate - like 30 grams of fat!). I feed my son Boost Plus (also loaded with tons of vitamins and minerals) which has helped...
  14. I'm just curious as to what kinds of experiences are off limits to Celiacs. I'm thinking that the military probably doesn't accept them because they may not necessarily be able to accommodate such a diet while out in combat. Not that I'd want my son to go to combat anyway. Just wondering what kinds of jobs or experiences he'll be denied with this condition...
  15. We love the one Nestle makes. It's so delicious! Make it with milk instead of water.
  16. I saw a show on Food Network that said that all fake crab meat (I think they call it sashimi in the sushi restaurants) have wheat in them because that is what binds the fish meat they use to make this product. I wish I could find a gluten-free one too. I used to make this awesome seafood pasta with it that we all miss. Replacing it with shrimp just hasn...
  17. Thank you everyone for your help. Key, my son has a cafe au lai spot on his face since birth. Every doctors he's seen asks about it, but never really went into it. They always asked how many he has. I pray that God protect your little son, that he may remain well and that the spots will be the extent of the problem.
  18. Lexi, try the Lactaid Fast Act chewable pills - it won't hurt. They work great for my 7 year old son. He takes 2 of them, per his doctor's recommendation. They taste delicious too (vanilla). He never gets stomachaches when he eats cheese and ice-cream if he takes these. They are very safe, and as someone else mentioned, they aren't really a drug, but...

    ARCHIVED Milk!

I've thought my celiac disease son has a casein allergy too. When he was born, his poop had strings of blood in it. The doc said "casein" allergy. I heard this can cause malabsorption too. He's 7 now, but his gastro doc says if there's no blood in his poop, he's outgrown it. Why don't I believe him? Anyway, the Lactaid milk he drinks for lactose intolerance...
  20. Does anyone know if it is too late for my 7 year old son to catch up to his contemporaries? I know some Celiacs will be of short stature no matter what. But I've read in so many places that children who are diagnosed "early" will probably catch up. Does anyone know what "early" means here? He stopped growing at age 4. He's grown only about 2 inches since...
  21. We've used Kraft Original BBQ too with no problems, and it is even delicious!
  22. My celiac disease son experiences SEVERE stomachache when glutened. I do not have Celiac or even gluten sensitivity. But I can tell you that we are gluten free at home for his sake, and when I do eat gluten when we go to restaurants, I experience this brain fog that everyone's talking about. That just tells me that what some people say is true: gluten...
  23. This is horrible news. I've relied on Boost Plus nutritional drink to help my little celiac disease son recover, and it has soy! He eats so little, yet this drink has helped him gain almost 9 pounds in 8 months. I really hope food manufacturers are on top of this.
  24. We've tried every gluten-free pizza crust on the plantet, both pre-made and mixes. Although we think Kinnickinick's are the best, we don't like them very much. They kind of taste like cardboard to us. But we really do love the hamburger buns. They are way too thick, but we slice them into 4 slices and toast them. This tastes very much like a real English...
  25. Yes, long lashes can definitely be a Celiac symptom. I've read it in many sites. And - yes, my son (who has celiac disease) has long, beautiful lashes. I guess there could be worse symptoms!
