Okay, so I'm going to what should be a pretty cool halloween bash next week. But none of the halloween costumes I can think of are very interesting (I'm thinking Dorothy, or a geisha). Y'all are creative... Any ideas?

ARCHIVED White Face Makeup
quantumsugar posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm thinking of dressing up as a geisha for halloween. Does anyone know of a safe face paint/makeup that is white? (Or any more interesting costume ideas)? Not any more, but there's no way to delete this. If anyone knows of safe false-eyelash-glue, though... let me know! -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results!
quantumsugar replied to quantumsugar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ursula: I'm too broke to do any additional testing right now, so it was just the gene testing. Once you are already registered and have put in your basic information (two screens in from the Order Test link), there is a spot where you actually check which tests you want to order. Second from the bottom is "Gluten Sensitivity Gene Test" and under description... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results!
quantumsugar posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For a long, long time I've wondered if I "really" have Celiac disease or just get sickly when I eat gluten (or, on a bad day, I wonder if it is all in my head). I didn't have medical insurance when I stopped eating gluten, so all my bloodwork has come back negative. And I was so scared that my Enterolab results would show gluten sensitivity or nothing at... -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Question
quantumsugar replied to rutland's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
NoGluGirl: I'm sorry, it's hard enough without people not understanding. My roommates were like this at first, until they saw how consistent I was (not just being crazy for fun) and how incredibly sick gluten made me. Hopefully they'll come around. As for the pans... it's your decision, but I wouldn't use them. I shared at first, and kept getting... -
ARCHIVED Ajax
quantumsugar replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was just searching for the same thing... According to another thread, all variants of Ajax dish liquid are safely gluten-free! Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Starting School
quantumsugar replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I can definitely relate... I had anxiety attacks when I started college, I was terrified. One of the things I like about community college is that, if you're shy, you don't have to make friends right away. Which means that, if you act like yourself, you'll attract friends that like *you*. And community college is so diverse... most people probably won... -
ARCHIVED "you Might Be A Celiac If....."
quantumsugar replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
-you feel naseous, and you pray that it's the flu This happened to me the other day, it was either: 1) too much sugared-up cereal, 2) gluten, or 3) the flu. I was really hoping that if I got sick, it would be flu and not gluten. (Fortunately, it was actually just an overdose of Fruity Pebbles). -
I already have my stuff separated... my own shelf in the fridge, my own cupboards. I have some of it labeled, but I think the idea of stickers is a good one, even if everything is kept away from the other stuff. I don't think she's "crazy like a fox" (though I love that description, debmidge). I think it's likely she's just unobservant; however, as...

Okay, I need help: After getting used to a roommate situation where both of my roommates stayed away from my food/dishes/pans, one moved out, and an old friend moved in instead. I thought this would be great, but she doesn't seem to get it. She keeps borrowing my food, and my pans, and my tupperware. I've already talked to her about it three times, and...

ARCHIVED Vinegar Substitutes
quantumsugar replied to quantumsugar's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
These recipes look fantastic, thank you all so much! I'm so excited to try them out. I get pretty intense GERD symptoms when I eat food with even a tiny bit of vinegar (that's the only thing that sets it off). I don't think it has anything to do with the yeast, I sometimes eat foods made with yeast without any problems. -

Does anyone have any good substitutes for vinegar? Willing lemon juice work well? Also, any vinegar-free salad dressing recipies would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Hope someone can help me with this.... I need a few recommendations for good LA-area GI doctors. If you have a doctor that you like, PLEASE tell me. My friend in LA is desparately seeking a doctor whose idea of a diagnosis does not include "it's just because you're a type A personality. I guarentee you nothing is actually wrong with you". Thank you...

I stopped pretty slowly, and it was pretty intense. I got super-angry (wailed on a poor punching bag, went outside and ran hard to avoid yelling at my family). Had several other symptoms as well. My advice would be to have someone (a mother, husband, etc) who will listen to you and keep you grounded (remind you that you're not going crazy, but going off...

ARCHIVED Lactose Intolerance Vanishing
quantumsugar replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
After years of lactose intolerance and about a year of being gluten-free, I can finally eat dairy again! (I've eaten cheese almost every day this month, it was so exciting for me). Until I started taking probiotics, I was still having a hard time digesting (lots of) foods, though.... I really think those helped. -
ARCHIVED Diarrea---not Fun..
quantumsugar replied to gabrielle's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That sucks. I'm sure you've read this before, and it doesn't sound like your problem, but are you sure you aren't having a reaction to another food? Is there anything new you've added into your diet? Also, does it seem to be the same type of D as you usually get when you're glutened, are you having any other symptoms? And there's always the possiblity... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Going Dormant
quantumsugar replied to JodiC's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
1. I've heard that as well 2. That's what happened for me--I had lots of stomach problems as a kid, doctors thought it was all in my head.... got better for the rest of my childhood (though I was constantly having health problems, many not-GI related). I started getting sick again around high school and it got much worse before I finally learned what... -
ARCHIVED Corn Tortilla (?)
quantumsugar replied to jaten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Careful about Mission tortillas... I just tried picking up a pack of Mission (I'm almost sure it was this brand) yellow corn tortillas, and it stated: "Contains WHEAT and SOY ingredients". The Mission ones always made me sick, but I thought maybe it had been something else. I'm not sure about the white corn, but be careful. -
ARCHIVED Unusual Gluten Symptom?
quantumsugar replied to jerseyangel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think that's ever happened as a gluten-symptom (at least not after going gluten-free). If it didn't speed up or change cadence at all, it doesn't seem un-safe. Did it feel anxiety related? I think that used to happen to me when I used to get anxiety attacks. And did you have any other anxiety (attack) related-symptoms. It could be that you... -
It is made mostly out of soy, from what I remember, but at least there isn't casein. For the "mouth feel" of margarine, you might want to check out coconut oil or palm oil shortening (Spectrum makes one). Both are about the same consistency, I've heard. Let me know if you ever try the homemade margarine, that would be pretty cool.
-
Riceguy: While Earth Balance is fantastic, I have cut out both casein and soy (and feel so much better). If you do, olive oil will probably be your new best friend. I use olive oil on practically everything (used it for my mashed potatoes, for baking, and in place of butter on baked potatoes, on pasta...). It works great, and it's super-healthy (so you...

ARCHIVED I Guess I Have To Starve?
quantumsugar replied to frustratedneicey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Being a college student that currently doesn't have the energy to do both work and school, I'm pretty broke too. Most of the time, I stick to whole foods, because I've found that works best with both my budget and my body. I eat lots of fruit and veggies, rice, potatoes, beans, nuts, eggs, and meat. And about the depression... make sure you're not still... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know Of A gluten-free Dog Food?
quantumsugar replied to mart's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For a while, my roommate was making food for our dog. Every week, he would make a big batch and keep it in the fridge all week, takes like twenty minutes a week. I can double check, but I think this was all he was putting in it: Chicken Rice (cooked in chicken broth) Garlic Occasionally he would mix in cottage cheese. It worked really well for... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Asap !
quantumsugar replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just like to chime in and agree with everyone else. I was having major problems until I cut out everything but meat, rice, raw fruits and veggies. And for a while, I was having problems with too much sugar or fat, when my body was just beginning to heal. Over time, I've put more things back in, but I now know that I have problems with dairy (casein) and...
