  1. Welcome to the forum, jim. Do note that this thread is 4 years old and the people on it are not active anymore. Also, the ingredients in Vans waffles may have changed since then. Van's makes regular gluten-filled waffles, too, did you buy those by mistake? Also, was the soy sauce you had a reaction to regular soy sauce, or gluten-free soy sauce? Sorry...
  2. Last night I made an oven roasted pork tenderloin with corn and carrots on the side. This weekend we went to Saltgrass Steakhouse. I had heard from a few people here that they were very good and safe. Overall, I felt the most safe there out of most restaurants, but half the things on the gluten-free menu they would not serve to me as Celiac. Fries...
  3. Ripping on people and giving strong opinions is kind of the America's Test Kitchen M.O. They do all kinds of cooking, have a TV show, radio show, etc. They are very objective and don't take sponsored opinions (they also run cooks illustrated magazine). A lot of times their advice is really good, but I don't always agree with it. Considering they wrote...
  4. Hi Kathleen, Dextrin is usually made from corn, but can be made from wheat. Good news is that if it is made from wheat, in the US, it must say so on the label. The illness may just be from eating junk food, or cross contamination. Also, remember not every illness is caused by gluten. Aside from gluten problems, tummy aches can come from various foods...
  5. That is awesome to hear! It is definitely worth the peace of mind.
  6. That company page only lists their wheat products, so I found the actual product page, and their artichoke pasta also has wheat in it. Not safe for a person on a gluten-free diet. Open Original Shared Link
  7. This doctor was probably referring to the people who put children with autism on a Gluten Free Casein Free diet and say it makes their children better. There is not science that supports that. However, when untreated Celiac disease is present, there absolutely can be psychological symptoms. Here are a few links, maybe the last paper you can refer the psych...
  8. To find sales in your area check out Open Original Shared Link There is an app called cookie finder that they put out that is the same thing. You can check that out. I stopped by a booth sale at a sore near here, the leader said they get the gluten-free cookies in on Wednesday so I gave her my contact info.
  9. Time to run to the grocery store!!!!!! I would have never known to look for these, thank you for the heads up! They are a big brand around here so surely someone has to have it. Quite exciting.
  10. The gluten-free version of Blue is around the same price as Royal Canin. My cat now eats the Royal Canin Feline Urinary SO prescription food, it helps with her urinary tract problems. The regular one is gluten-free, the lower calorie one has wheat gluten as a top ingredient, so we just make sure to be strict on portion control. We fed her Blue before...
  11. Luckily they add the "contains gluten part" so there is no guessing. In the case of the icing mixture, it is likely that it is made on shared equipment and is probably contaminated with gluten, so they just put that statement on there. If you aren't sure why they put the statement on there, like in the case of the glucose syrup, you can write the company...
  12. Well you are tempting me to make donuts now... LOL
  13. Hey John, for bandaids, check out the cohesive wrap bandages at your drug store. You can use that and some gauze. I have them do that when I get blood drawn often, because the cheap bandaids tear my skin off. If you don't want to drop the money on new products, any elasticized fabric will do- like old clothes, socks, pantyhose, and gauze over the wound...
  14. Bush's beans are all gluten-free, will say on the label, too. They even make sure their vinegar in products is from corn. I am pretty sure they make black eyed peas. Otherwise you can make your own with dried, but that is no fun is it? Ah yes, they do make them: Open Original Shared Link All their stuff is really good, especially their cocina latina...
  15. I have three in the freezer. The point was to forget and eat later but I may have to pull one out, lol. I forgot to thaw anything out for tonight so... hamburgers maybe, or chicken nuggets and tater tots, for tonight. Will see how I feel!
  16. I think you are going about things a great way. Cant buy it, then make it myself! I do the same thing. One of my first things I made was fried chicken. I actually bread it with gluten-free Bisquik. I have thought about trying just white rice flour but my husband says it is so good and to just leave it alone. I also did fried pickles. Yum Yum! Something...
  17. Hormel makes gluten-free pepperoni, and special stuff for pizzas like crumbled cooked beef, ham chunks, etc. They will label theirs as gluten-free on the back of the package if it is. Jones Dairy farm makes ham that is perfect to use as canadian bacon. As Karen said, most pepperoni, ham, etc is going to be gluten free. Just check out whatever brands are...
  18. I am one. I get no solidly discernible symptoms when I am glutened. Some people take this as a free pass to not follow a gluten-free diet strictly, but because I understand what is happening inside my body when gluten goes in, I am even more strict about things like cross contamination, etc. The down side of being a silent Celiac is you don't have your...
  19. Good info on the cookie dough. At least Celiac gives me a reason to turn down all those overpriced fundraisers I am asked to buy from, LOL. I am eating a chunky monkey cupcake from my favorite gluten-free bakery. Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and Banana. Pretty good! They also had eclairs, first one I have had since DX.
  20. That grilled cheese sounds really good! Tonight I am treating myself to gluten-free pizza. Nomnomnom.
  21. I still have little faith in a Pizza hut employee actually wearing gloves, washing their hands, etc. Unless it was a sit down location and I got the manager to serve me, I will still avoid it. Also, if I wanted to eat an Udi's gluten-free frozen pizza with just pepperoni on it, I would go get one from the grocery store and bake it myself. Not too excited...
  22. Have you had your vitamin levels tested? Sometimes when certain vitamins are too low or high they can cause these symptoms. Either way, when something is very different, a visit to the doctor is in order. If you are on any new medications, check to see if that is a known side effect of one, as well.
  23. Has a total IgG been run to assure the IgG tests are accurate?
  24. The only way to know for sure would be to get ahold of some contact information for those who do the medical determination, and pose the question to them. Sometimes they will have rigid criteria that would give a certain disqualification for certain health issues. That way you don't waste your effort if it is futile.
  25. There are many other things that make food gummy other than gluten. You are totally safe to eat products like this as-is if you confirm there is no gluten or other ingredients you can't have in them.
