  1. -This post was made on February 2, 2014. If you are reading this a few years down the road, please re-check gluten-free info with the company.- If you live in the Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, or Missouri, you may know about Braum's. (Burger place that serves ice cream and has a grocery side to it-all the dairy is made at their own farm in OK) ...
  2. I suspect meringues is on the list because of the wide variety that can be made. Meringue pie, cookies, cookie sandwiches, on desserts, all kinds of stuff. One of those things that has no business being around gluten but still sometimes does.
  3. It is very possible just having the infection mucked you up quite badly. Do you have a rheumatologist? Definitely a visit to a doctor about all this is in order. You can specifically ask to be tested for RA and even your primary care doctor can do a few blood tests that check for other autoimmune problems. Sometimes just going in and telling them you...
  4. I'm so sorry you had that experience, good to spread the word and raise awareness with the Celiac community, though. I am glad I never liked beer in the first place so I don't miss it.
  5. I won't miss them too much, but I sure would devour those shortbread cookies they make. And I would freeze some, too. Just give yourself an indulgence of your choice in place of them But it does suck to say no to the little girls! Makes you feel like a jerk walking past their booth on the way into the store and such. I, too, will remember them fondly...

    ARCHIVED Online Doctor

I second all of the above. Best resource is this website. They have a lot of questions answered already, and you can submit more. Be very very careful seeking medical advice from people who post online saying they are doctors or experts.
  7. Yep, it is really smooth going, no preparation other than doing it on an empty stomach. They give you a sleepy drug, go down you throat and look, takes like 5 minutes and wake up right after. I could feel a slight discomfort at the biopsy sites, kind of like a bad heartburn feeling, but just in small spots, and just for that day. It is totally understandable...
  8. Ditto to this! I always pop into these types of stores and look at the food while I am there. You can get some good bargains on gourmet stuff and gluten-free stuff, just watch the expiration date. TJMaxx is where I usually go, and they mark them on clearance when the expiration date is 2-3 months out.
  9. I have thought about that, too. I never planned on it but I was watching one of those jail shows on TV one day and thought... Wow I better never go to jail, I would starve to death! The fat response is going into my book to use next time someone mentions gluten-free and weight loss. LOL you have me cracking up! And Dianaw, as time passes, it gets...
  10. I would say the least weird one to start with, and my favorite, is Chebe. It is a box mix, usually 3-4 dollars, and makes two 11 inch pizzas or one 14 inch pizza. It calls for an egg, a little oil, milk, and a cup of shredded cheese-I use parmesean. It isn't sticky like some of the other gluten-free pizza crust mixes, and you actually do knead it a little...
  11. Looks like a place I would try. If you have kids, a make your own pizza night would probably be a hit. Let them make smiley faces with hormel pepperoni, etc.
  12. This. And if you use cleaner before the cycle runs, any residue left in there will go into the air. See if you can locate the manual in the house, and if not google the make and model # and you should be able to find the manual fairly easily.
  13. I have always had problems with puffy/red eyes. In high school one day when I was having bad allergies I got pulled to the side by a teacher who thought I was on something and I had to explain my allergy eye issue. Later I thought it resolved, but I was 19 I think and I went to the eye doctor and he was freaking out at how inflamed my eyes were. If you...
  14. Short Answer is no. I have celiac disease and I also do not know when I am glutened. However I still had other less noticeable symptoms like anemia. You cannot just "get over" celiac disease or a gluten intolerance. Damage can go very slowly in some cases, and you would slowly poison yourself until you are back to square one. Head over to the top...
  15. King Arthur flour has a flour blend and a baking mix that work great. If you really want to go cheaper, gluten-free bisquick works for sweet things, but its sweet taste can make it odd for use in some savory things. Also, not to derail the topic, but can you clarify that your doctor only took one singular biopsy to test for celiac? If that is so, he...

    ARCHIVED Tingling

So, KCG you are three months gluten-free now? I say there is still time for improvement to show. I used to get an inexplicable neuropathy in my legs and arms quite frequently. It would keep me up at night and drive me nuts. Did all kinds of testing over many years and then it was like, we don't know. A while back I was thinking that I haven't experienced...
  17. I know Texas De Brazil is a chain, we only eat there with a coupon and we go to Sams Club and get a $100 gift card for $80. They used to email out much better coupons like half off, but not anymore. Now it is something like free dessert on your anniversary, Sun-thurs only. Also, lunch prices are usually much cheaper and mostly the same items. Can you...
  18. Can you please send an ESP mind message to my husband and tell him to do this? LOL I agree with everyone above and their great ideas.. Putting in how you like to cook for people and taking charge of the food part on first dates until you deem the guy worthy of knowing your secrets is a good plan. That way you don't waste your time if he turns out to...
  19. Yep, they can- especially if you are really sensitive which it sounds like you may be. There has been some discussion on getting glutened from kissing although I think it just depends on the individual circumstance. If you haven't yet done so, check out the newbie 101 thread on the top of the page under the "Celiac disease- coping with" category. There...
  20. I think you guys both have valid input here, that is the great part of this forum We are all Silly Yaks together. I think cyclinglady may be correct in that they had to make them extra hard and stuff to make it through handling and such with the pouch packaging. I personally never liked thin mints but I don't really like mint. I always liked the shortbread...
  21. Yes!!!! I cannot stand when people will turn their nose up at gluten-free food, it is completely insulting. I have learned to not mention it is gluten-free unless it is someone you are already close to. I made a bunch of pumpkin cookies for my sisters halloween party- told her not to label them gluten-free and she did. NO ONE ATE THEM. I was P.O'd. We...
  22. Thanks for the info on them! I have been thinking about trying them for our upcoming anniversary. We have Texas de Brazil here, too and their offerings are very similar and if you get the right person they are very knowledgeable. But OMG CHEESY BREAD! I really want some now.
  23. If you want something better than classico, I really really like Monte Bene. I also like Mezzetta . Especially when you have just pasta plus sauce with not much else added, it is worth getting the higher priced ones.
  24. Gluten- no. Sugar- Maybe. If something is amiss with your blood sugar, thirst can be a symptom. Other things to look at are your medications. I don't want you to divulge more personal info than you want to, but certain psychiatric medications, along with many other different medications, can cause excessive thirst and dry mouth. Also, since your dietary...
  25. Also, alcohol can alter your brain chemistry, especially if taken in large amounts. Some people do fine when they drink but the day or two afterwards they are severely depressed. You don't have to be an alcoholic for it to have this effect, either. It is just how the body reacts sometimes, especially if you normally do not drink large amounts. Basically...
