Unfortunately there's no guarantee's that after 6 or so weeks of eating gluten your intestines will be damaged. So what will you end up with for the pain and discomfort? You might have ankylosing spondylitis. I have that. It is an autoimmune disease that sometimes leads to fusing of joints in the spine/hips (but often not). Do you feel stiff and sore while in bed at night? Does it get better when you get up and walk around or after you get up in the morning? It can take people quite awhile to feel better after starting gluten free. Are you sure you're not getting hidden gluten? You might want to try an elimination diet and see if perhaps there is something else bugging... -

I had some weird vibration feeling in my abdomen for awhile, it was very odd. I thought it might be neuropathy so I increased my intake of B vitamins (esp. B12). Once my gut got settled down, the vibration went away. -

When TSH goes low it is telling the thyroid to pump out less hormone. So a really, really low TSH might mean your thyroid is overactive. TSH going high says "I need more power, Scotty!" which would mean your pituitary gland is trying to signal the thyroid to give you more thyroid hormone. So if your TSH goes too low it could mean you're HYPERthyroid... -

A lot of people adopt a very simple, very restrictive diet at first because the healing process can be pretty rough. You might want to google on SCD and see if that might help you out, but leave out the dairy products at least at first. -

They have some pretty cool gene testing now that can tell you who your ancestors were... if you wanted to figure out who had the DQ4 (asian) gene. I'd love to get that done. Is your son getting plenty of protein and fat, especially at dinner? That sure stabilizes my blood sugars. (assuming it is a blood sugar issue) -
Lots of celiacs are overweight or even obese. And you can get fat from more than just fat...

Speaking of tight-junctions and zonulin, I came across an article recently that MS patients may have an overly permeable blood/brain barrier. I believe that is also affected by zonulin. And this ties in nicely with the research Dr. Hadjivasillou has done on the gluten/brain connection. There's also a zonulin controlled barrier at the skin level too... -

Sometimes people have positive biopsies with negative blood work, so the doctor really can't rule out Celiac yet. You could definitely get Enterolab testing or try an elimination diet. Check for casein intolerance too while you're at it. But you might as well go ahead with the allergy testing too. -

I'm wondering if the difference is lactose. Cheeses/yogurt are generally low in lactose because the fermentation process eats it up. You could get some high fat yogurt, like Greek yogurt and see what happens. (NUMMY stuff, btw) But then again butter is low in lactose, I think. Maybe it was what you put the butter on? -

According to the research I've read, everyone produces zonulin when they eat wheat. But for some people, i.e. celiacs, it jams open the tight junctions longer making the gut much leakier. I think the interesting thing is... if wheat is doing this to everyone, wouldn't we be a lot healthier as a people if we didn't eat wheat? -

That won't help for a casein sensitivity. You have to avoid all dairy. -
Celiac disease is also being linked to brain damage, all other autoimmune diseases and even things like dementia. You might be fine for many years but have an absolutely miserable old age.

Most celiacs are also lactose and casein intolerant. So try to eliminate the dairy products too and see if that helps! I used to have a link to an article but don't any longer. :\

I thought of sardines recently because they have soft bones that you won't choke on AND they're small fish so they won't have absorbed a lot of mecury, they have lots of omega-3 fatty acids too. Unfortunately tuna and salmon often live a long time and accumulate a lot of mecury. Weird thing is... with tuna or any other meat my cat gulps it down quickly... -

Cooking destroys the taurine in food and it is an essential amino acid for cats, so they usually add it back in after cooking. I just buy taurine capsules and sprinkle them on his food. But generally I feed my puddy tat lamb/salmon from Whole Foods (cat food), sardines in water, the occassional can of tuna and raw chicken. He's doing MUCH better since... -

Heck yes! I don't use the gluten free replacement foods because they're too carby/starchy. I do bake using coconut flour and rice bran (50/50) and sugar substitutes (usually a mix of splenda and erythritol). I haven't tried to make regular bread but I have made coffee cakes, and something I call a "bowl muffin". One of these days I'll get around to making...
