  1. I don't think it's the end of the world if a kid doesn't eat breakfast, as long as they're eating a good healthy diet without a lot of added sugar and starches. Most kids are loading up on too many carbs and if they don't keep eating constantly they'll have a blood sugar crash, but if your diet is high protein with veggies and maybe some fruit you shouldn...
  2. Too bad your SIL isn't taking it more seriously. She *could* be providing him with gluten-free food so he wouldn't be so tempted, or even take the whole family gluten-free. *sigh*
  3. I think it can, but more importantly its causing your system to react to something which isn't good. I think we're under constant autoimmune overload when we eat stuff we are intolerant of.
  4. It took me about 1.5 years to finally feel normal again. I also had to give up dairy to get there though, and along the way found other foods that disrupt me.
  5. I had RAI therapy for Graves disease 20 years ago, so no functioning thyroid now to speak of. I take synthetic thyroid. I tried Armor and didn't like it. I started with a small dose and worked up but I always felt "tired and wired". I gave up on it about 6 months after starting it. I think the tired part was my undiagnosed gluten intolerance because...
  6. You might want to try giving up dairy too, for me gluten was only a piece of the puzzle. I also found supplementing B vitamins and D3 was helpful for the energy issues and brain clarity. Stick with it for at least a few months! It has taken me about 1.5 years to feel like I'm pretty much back to normal. Some things were fast, others much slower, but how...
  7. I take a B complex, B12 sublingually AND folic acid. If you are low in B12 and supplement folic acid it can make cognitive functioning worse, so I get both together. My neurological symptoms are VASTLY better. I think supplementing vit. D3 also helped a lot too.
  8. If you've got a gluten intolerance, you've got a leaky gut. One thing gluten does is it jams open the junctions on the gut and allows stuff to cross the intestinal barrier. Google zonulin for more info. Someone just posted Open Original Shared Link on Braintalk about glutamine and intestinal barrier function.
  9. My rheumy has me on Sulfasalazine which he says treats leaky gut, which is the root cause of my autoimmune arthritis. But I also use coconut milk kefir (homemade) and I think taking Vit. D3 supplements has helped too. Sticking with a low GI diet helps (i.e. avoiding starches and sugars) as does avoiding foods I seem to have problems with (seeds, dairy and...
  10. You might want to reevaluate if you really need a doctor for this. A doctor can't cure you, they know nothing about nutrition, there's no prescription that can help you with gluten sensitivity. I think what you have to do, what most of us did, was educate ourselves on the Internet, get our own testing or do dietary trials and figure it out on our own. ...
  11. Wow, that's pretty bad. Have you tried a strict paleo diet or something like SCD? I've also been supplementing B12, folic acid and taking a B50 complex because deficiencies in B vitamins can lead to cognitive failure. Another supplement that might be helping me is D3. If you don't get better soon, you might want to consult a neurologist, that is pretty...
  12. It's taken me 1.5 years of being extremely strict with gluten and mostly strict with dairy to get to where I feel really good and my gut is behaving very nicely. I also found a few other foods that seem to upset my gut, so I really listen to what the body is telling me. It really does talk to you, you just have to listen!
  13. Are you eating something you don't normally eat?
  14. That's actually not quite right. You still get the autoimmune response, leaky gut, etc with gluten sensitivity. Officially the only difference is that with celiac disease you have flattened villi and with gluten sensitivity you don't. But both things make people very sick. Most doctors don't recognize there's anything called non-celiac gluten sensitivity...
  15. You sound a lot like me. I started having problems with joints and muscles in my 20's, IBS, etc. Then in my 40's I was diagnosed with an autoimmune arthritis, which was probably caused by food intolerances. Autoimmune diseases can cause fatigue. I've cut out dairy products and gluten and started supplementing Vit. D and I use probiotics (coconut milk...
  16. Actually, there are lots of delicious cuisines that use raw meat. Usually they're steeped in something acidic though which kills bacteria. I had a tex-mex salad once that had raw beef in it. Lots of sausages prepared traditionally are raw, but the meat is cured with bacteria like the sort used in making yogurt. And yes, there's always sushi.
  17. I have mixed feelings about this, it'll be nice to have more WF's around but Wild Oats had different selection and price range. Over all I think it'll limit our choices. :\
  18. Probably the best information is available right here: Open Original Shared Link and here: Open Original Shared Link I know that the results of this test changed my life for the better.
  19. Raw food doesn't necessarily have to be vegetarian. But my opinion is this, we've been cooking food for, if memory serves, over 100,000 years and it has been an important evolutionary step for humankind. Why? Well, cooking breaks down cell walls on in food that normally can't be broken down, so we can get at more nutrients. We can also eat more...
  20. Ghee you can make yourself from butter, just google for instructions. Things you think you can't find locally you can always order over the internet, that's how I got my stuff like coconut flour and coconut oil and other exotic ingredients. Google provides.
  21. Dr. Fine is a really respectable researcher, his livelyhood hinges upon his credibility and that of his labs. I think you can rule out anything shadey from him. Yes, I've met him, heard him lecture. He's a god.
  22. I think Bard's Tale is excellent, but very expensive.
  23. Perhaps it is just me, but every time I take turmeric supplements I get a stomach ache, sometimes diarrhea. I seem to be ok with it added to food though.
  24. If only it were that easy... So many of us have had positive health rewards from following a gluten-free diet regardless of our testing outcome, I'd really encourage you to try it yourself, even ifyou get a negative result.
  25. I have had a lot of improvement in all those areas recently and the things that changed were: I started making/drinking coconut milk kefir (hugely probiotic effect) I started supplementing vit D3 (oily only, dry doesn't work) at 4,000 iu I started supplementing folic acid AND B12 I don't know if they all helped or only some helped but my chronic D...
