  1. Sounds like a "night terror" or Open Original Shared Link. I used to see a weird, spider-like creature descending onto my bed from the ceiling. I always thought I was awake at the time. But I read up on them and realized it is a state in between. But they always seemed incredibly real. Once I read about them, it became more of an interesting event...
  2. You could make Ghee out of your butter. Google the instructions for making it. It should remove everything but the fat. It tastes good, although very different from butter.
  3. Well, I think not absorbing the vitamins and minerals you need could be a lot of the issue. Vit. D3 (oily cholecalciferol only!) is essential if you're low. If he can get out in strong sunlight every day, even better. You can get tested to check your levels too. vitamindcouncil.com is a great web site. So making sure his intestines heal and he gets...
  4. Boy, you've got a really negative mind-set, no wonder you feel so hopeless. First, you're a foodie so indulge your foodie inclinations! That's what I did. I searched out things I could eat and figured out how to make them even better. You might want to check into the Paleo diet, it is similar to your list of foods. Loren Cordain's book is good...
  5. It's always great to see the "product" looking more healthy. I just had a big relapse in mine (due to eating corn... bleh!) and had to go looking for my stash of pre-moistened towelettes again.
  6. The type that starts with "methyl" is better absorbed and utilized than the type that starts with a "c". Here's an article: Open Original Shared Link
  7. It takes me about 5 minutes in the morning to pack myself both lunch and breakfast. I do my cooking on the weekends and rely on bagged salad greens (with added chicken/salmon/nuts/chopped veggies). All it takes is a little pre-planning.
  8. I never thought I'd say it... but perhaps having to struggle with my weight (too much, not too little) all my life made this a much easier transition for me. I've had to give up foods for much of the last 20-30 years of my life. So giving up another sort of food (and dairy) wasn't all that difficult. Just have a little compassion for fat people and the...
  9. Horray! I'm surprised. I didn't think you could get cholecalciferol in doses that high. Well, that'll fix you up! I was looking over some old tests of mine, my D3 status was in the 20's. Not low enough that anyone would treat but everything I've read said you should be in the 50's.
  10. Is it D2 they're giving you? Ergocaliferol? If so... it doesn't work nearly as well as D3.
  11. Personally I think you can't judge it from one incident. It might take months for the damage to get bad enough to cause obvious issues. For me, the proof was in how my IBS cleared up so quickly getting off the gluten. I did do one gluten challenge and felt emotionally "off" for a week afterwards. Might have been coincidence or not. Imagine that gluten...
  12. Just remember that the longer he's gluten free the harder it will be to get a biopsy diagnosis. You may only have a window of a few weeks. Also, what about asking for follow up testing of his ttg on the gluten free diet to confirm it goes down. Seems like that should contribute to the large, growing pool of evidence.
  13. There's a lot of us that *know* with certainty that gluten makes us sick that don't have positive tests. We experimented on ourselves with dietary trials or used Enterolab to figure it out. As far as I'm concerned.... the blood tests are fairly worthless. I don't find a gluten free diet difficult or limiting, instead I relish the fact my health is much...
  14. I'm just curious but why is it so important you get buy-in from your doctor?
  15. I'm reading a book on genetics and learned last night they've only identified about 1/2 of what the human genes do so far. So there's plenty of room in there for additional genes that haven't yet been identified.
  16. The doctor is just going to say "Stck to the diet", they can't make the illness go away, only you can. You don't need to eat expensive gluten free replacements. Beans and rice make a complete protein. Throw in some meat that is discounted (because it needs to get sold -- go buy it early in the morning) get some veggies. That's some pretty healthy eating...
  17. Soy flour not only smells bad but it also tastes bad. Yuck!
  18. Most celiacs are also lactose intolerant too. And many are permanently intolerant of casein (read an article that something like 50% of celiacs are also casein intolerant). But here's a great article that is new to celiac.com that explains why there can be some ongoing issues after starting a gluten-free diet. https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p...
  19. Casein is in all milk so is lactose, so probably not.
  20. I have a lot of them, they run in my family. As far as I can tell, they haven't shrunk. :\
  21. Well, I really hope this person followed up with a doctor (or doctors... if the first N were lame).
  22. Open Original Shared Link (and probably a few celiacs cheering on the rust!)
  23. Gluten shouldn't be in pet food either! I feed my cat meat, not grains! The junk we're feeding pets, it is a wonder they live as long as they do! Before I switched my cat off kibble he was SO fat and I think verging on diabetes. Cats shouldn't be eating high carb food.
  24. FeedIndy... your name cracks me up! My cat is named "Indy" and I think he is constantly saying "FeedIndy".
  25. Wow! What a wonderful story. And you're extremely loving to give up gluten to make extra sure he doesn't get contaminated! I wish all families were so supportive.
