  1. Interesting! Wonder what the deal is too! According to the author it works because you starve out all the bad bacteria and feed the good ones. In a nutshell, although she shows what happens when bad bacteria get complex sugars and digest them, basically hurting the intestines, causing extra mucus and villi damage. So her idea is that eating only...
  2. I posted awhile back that I just couldn't get my diarrhea to stop, even though I was gluten free, then dairy free. Well, I went on the SCD diet and everything seems to be all quiet in the southern half of me, for the last 4 days. I have a feeling there was enough damage there that hadn't healed that everything was causing me to have diarrhea. I intend...
  3. My brother keeps telling me I'm a gluten for punishment.
  4. Hmmm... now that you mention it yes! I used to get up a pee 3-4 times a night. Now sometimes I sleep right through or just wake up once or twice. Although I have also gotten off dairy too. It wasn't like my bladder was full either, just a strong urge to go.
  5. Definitely! There's a lot of neurological symptoms associated with gluten. Some people have seizures, brain fog, sleepiness and so on. The theory is that partially digested gluten resembles opiates and gets into the blood supply via a "leaky gut".
  6. Have you thought of trying the SCD Diet to see if you can get your itestines happy again? Mine seem to be reacting badly to lots of things. I'm hoping SCD will give things a chance to heal, then I can try to add back Dairy and perhaps rice and maybe corn. www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info
  7. I think the testing most doctors are using is just horrible. Too many false negatives and it only detects the issue when it has progressed extremely far. You're a smart lady for using the ultimate test: a Gluten free diet! I think having the medical testing or even gene testing done might be important for some people to take the disease seriously. They...
  8. Yeah, I know, I know. I've been on the SCD diet for a short while. It doesn't include any grains, any dairy (except yogurt and I omit that because it makes my innards unhappy). Anyway, I'm on the diet to see if it helps my intestines and joint aches (what I suspect might be an autoimmune issue). The good part about it is there are a LOT of people...
  9. Just a thought, but could the Embassy of your country help you out at all? I hope you get to the bottom of this and soon!
  10. Are they not reporting it on the label? Seems like that would warrant a complaint to the FDA.
  11. Heck yeah, I had my thyroid "nuked" 18 years ago. I wish I hadn't rushed to getting it nuked though. It can be challenging to get the thyroid meds dosed right, and doctors are into a habit with underdosing thyroid meds you so you feel awful all the time. Anyway, I wish at the time I had given it time and let it go into remission just taking the thyroid...
  12. Yeah, I realize it sounds very sensationalistic. But the stories I've heard were that people who really follow the diet closely do have remission of their symptoms. A friend of a friend had Crohn's and got it under control on the diet. But I think it takes fanatical adherance and not everyone is up for that. I'm not sure I am. The premise seems simple...
  13. No, I did ask at Whole Foods market but they don't sell them. So I did a google search and found lots of places online where you can buy them. Americanspice.com was one such company.
  14. I haven't actually done it yet. But my plan is to defrost some skinless, boneless chicken breasts and grind them up (Kitchenaid attachment). I'll add some spices, still pondering which to use. Then I also bought some hog casings and I'll put the sausage stuffer on my kitchenaid and fill 'em up. Then I'll probably twist them off every 3-4" or so, cut them...
  15. Her book has a lot of recipes and menu ideas. I haven't really started the diet like I should but I got the diarrhea under control anyway although I'm constipated again, but I think that's the dairy products. I'm not going to eat the yogurt or farmer's cheese, it just makes me feel lousy. I have figured out how to make yogurt from coconut milk though...
  16. I'm also finding I need less thyroid hormone. Still tweaking it to figure out the best combination of synthetic to natural. But it kind of seems like I'm utilizing the thyroid hormone better than before.
  17. I think her diet is terrific but her conclusions aren't. When I went off gluten and dairy I actually got worse. But following her diet I think I'm finally getting better. I don't believe her diet cures food intolerances, but it sure is good for recovering from GI woes. One thing I noticed is she says you can never go back to eating grains and refined...
  18. I agree with you all. I don't seem to be able to tolerate a lot of foods now. Oddly enough I got worse after getting off dairy. I think maybe because dairy tends to make me constipated, so it was balancing out the other stuff. :} Finally my too frequent BM's have stopped! I'm hoping I am not going into a constipation bit now. I'm following...
  19. CMCM is absolutely right. Also Dr. Fine says that damage to villi can take a long, long time to show up, like years sometimes. So what would you do if after 5 weeks, you see no damage to your villi? Assume you don't have a gluten intolerance?
  20. You might try to look into the SCD Diet. When you're into the "everything hurts" stage it can help you. I'm just starting it myself. Open Original Shared Link
  21. I don't recall seeing any other than things like meat and veggies. They tend to cater to restaurants and the like and well... restaurants definitely don't cater to us.
  22. Ok, I'm going to sit down with the book this weekend, do my shopping and get started. I noticed the web site says coconut milk is ok, is that true from the start? Or is that later on? Anyone know?
  23. I'm going to give the SCD diet a try. Just got the book. The theory is that people with severe chronic intestinal issues end up with bacteria that is out-of-balance. So you eat food with only mono-sacchrides for awhile to feed the good guys and starve the bad guys. I've heard a lot of rave reviews from people with severe intestinal issues, so I shall...
  24. I have the same issue. I must have had 15 BM's in the last 24 hours. :\ My diet is so squeaky clean. I'm going to try the SCD (specific carbohydrate diet) and see if that helps.
  25. Thanks everyone! I eliminated milk products because Enterolabs says I'm casein intolerant too. I've really closed my diet down to the few items I mentioned, all home cooked with whole spices I even ground myself. Vinegar is red wine, so it should be ok. Only think that isn't home cooked are a few frozen veggies, but the ingredient list is fine, some nut...
