  1. Hi TS Welcome to the forum. I am not perhaps the best qualified to answer all your questions, but I just wanted to say that as a person who suffered from debilitating anxiety very badly prior to my diagnosis, and has had the odd setback with it since going gluten free, there is nonetheless lots of room for hope. Please remember that, just because...
  2. Another great gluten free menu! A great recommendation about Cote Restaurants from Gemini has just appeared on a separate thread. I have decided to share it here as having done a bit more homework I cannot believe what a good gluten-free menu Cote has. I am also surprised to find that we have one less than half an hour's drive away. Here is the...
  3. Maybe in the future this gadget will begin to look more like a thermometer - you just stick it in the food and see what happens! Thanks so much for the tip on the Cote restaurants, Gemini. I have just gone on line and there is one near us Sussex! Yippee! Thank you! I'm going to post your recommendations in the International Room if that is OK? I...
  4. Hi Liam Well done for sticking with the diet. You must be feeling very frustrated though. One thing that does come to mind is that before I even knew I was a coeliac my GP put me on some pretty hefty iron supplementation as I was very anemic. This gave me diarrhea and it was so bad I had a lot of bleeding (bright red blood) and I was very sore...
  5. This is a really exciting breakthrough. I'm just wondering though, has anyone tested food in a restaurant setting and then has been courageous enough to actually send the gluten containing food that was meant to be gluten free back? What was the reaction? I'm trying to imagine how that would go down with the staff? I'm afraid I've been in the...
  6. I know of celiacs who don't help matters because they don't play by the rules and will tell people 'I can get away with eating a bit of gluten' and that kind of thing. I hear it so often. Things like, 'I knew a celiac but he/she grew out of it'. That doesn't help our cause at all. So I guess it makes things a bit difficult for onlookers who are trying...
  7. Thanks for this tip. I was wondering if there was anything that could be done. How long do you soak it for? Does it matter how much water you use? Sorry - just want to make sure I'm doing it right.
  8. Hi again. You've had a lot of great advice, you will find an answer. I just wanted to say that as far as my friend is concerned, she takes a very small dose of amytryptaline and the side effects have been minimal, in fact, I can't even recall what she said they were - but in her case, worth it! Try not to worry if you have to take it for a bit. I think...
  9. I thought I'd chime in, too. I'm a diagnosed celiac (4 years this spring). I just wanted to say that if gluten is your problem you could well find that the migraines get less frequent, or might go all together, so try not to worry. Mine started as pain and feeling really sick when I was in my teens right through to my thirties. Then when I was...
  10. Hello again I have read again and again on various sites that some countries - I think Japan is one of them - suggests 500 is a minimum level. I've got a busy day so can't stay too long to post - sorry - but you might like to read this. See what it says about older adults (not that you are old, but it mentions 500 again). I'm always interested...
  11. Hi Jherm I'd try to find out what your B12 levels are like if I were you. They could really be influencing how you are feeling right now. Open Original Shared Link
  12. I find that sweetners increase my cravings too. It's odd. And sometimes I find certain sweetners (not the natural ones I suspect) leave a horrid aftertaste for up to 24 hours. I can't quite figure out why - sometimes it'll happen, other times not, but that's one reason I'm not so keen on them anymore.
  13. This is inspiring! You are right about this obsession with food. I used to 'eat to live' as a child. I was really quite disinterested in food apart from cakes and chocolate, but as adults were controlling my consumption of that I was as thin as a rake. Now I can eat what I want (so long as it is gluten free) and although I'm still technically within my BMI...
  14. Thanks so much, posterboy. My nutritionalist has also advised me to try to keep levels stable to stop neuropathy from getting worse. It was good to read your advice. Much appreciated.
  15. Hi Cristina Well done! So glad you are making this progress - and thank you for the update. Do keep us posted of your results. A lot of us have found that the medical profession is not aware of the neurological effects of celiac/non-celiac gluten intollerance. Here in the UK there is a lot of work going on to inform GPs and in the short time I...
  16. Ditto. I've been doing the same!
  17. I know exactly what you are talking about. I share a house with gluten eaters and I think that accounts for some cc. Also, I tend to buy the sort of food that you might find in Coeliac UK's book that does not declare it is gluten free, but they deem safe. Maybe small amounts are getting in that way. But my underlying neuro symptoms, which I think are...
  18. Hi again Cristina I just wanted to reemphasise what Jmg has said re: don't assume that gluten is not a problem for you, even if your blood comes back as normal. I couldn't agree more with this advice. The other thing is make sure they give you the full barrage of celiac tests. I had the full panel and my gastroenterolgist said that only one of...
  19. Hi Cristina Reading your symptoms I felt I was reading about me! I don't have thyroid issues that they have ever discovered, or geographical tongue, but I have had so much of what you have gone through. I was diagnosed in the spring of 2013 but prior to that, around the time of the 2012 Olympics, I started to develop unbelievable anxiety that...
  20. Hola de nuevo. It depends what you are after. If you are after good value, clean hotels, we find that is usually the norm for the Premier Inn chain. We tend to use them a lot. Not luxury, but usually of a good standard. Unhelpfully I have never stayed in one in London but google 'Premier Inns London' and there seems to be a good selection. Just...
  21. Hola Ricardo I am very sensitive to gluten but I've never had cross-contamination problems from ASK or Franky and Benny's - both chain restaurants, most large towns will have one or the other - or both! My children love them too. Ask for the Gluten Free menus when you arrive and just make sure when you order to say your son is a Coeliac. I always...
  22. Sorry Lukas, meant to say , the ENT's tests were odd - things like walking blindfolded to see if I drifted to the right or left, he stuck a probe up my nose to test my Eustachian Tube or something, there was a hearing test etc. I'm not sure if any of that is relevant but I thought I'd let you know in case! Also, I had separate tests with a neurologist...
  23. Hi again Lukas Regarding the tests for the cotton wool under foot/walking on a rolling deck problem, I eventually went to see an Ear Nose Throat specialist. It was odd how it came about because for a while kept going back to the family doctor (what we call a GP here in the UK) and I had all sorts of in surgery tests like the hall pike maneoevure...
