  1. Hi Icelandgirl Thanks so much! I hope it turns out well, too. Here in the cash strapped NHS system they do two particular thyroid tests - I haven't got my readings on me just now but I felt shortchanged when I got them back. That said I was told if something was amiss it would have been detected. I'm going to probably ask for a proper referral...
  2. Hi ironic - thank you so much for sharing, what it is not to feel alone! But that said I'm sorry you are in this fix as well. It is so interesting that you have had pain. I do feel sorry that you've had to wait around like this, wondering what on earth is going on. I always imagine something else is going on with my thyroid other than multi-nodular...
  3. Hi gluten-free Thanks so much for your post - your previous post way back in '14 helped reassure me greatly, and it was good to re-read it earlier. I also feel better that you didn't have another round of testing for four years and all is benign. Was your throat at all swollen? I guess I'm panicking a bit because a friend of mine told me before...
  4. Hi Cycling Lady Just one more question - sorry. When you said that you had enlargement, did your neck feel rock hard or just a bit puffy. My health anxiety is taking over now. That side of the neck does feel puffy and squidgy, if that makes sense. I just don't know what multi-nodular goitres are meant to feel like. xx
  5. Wow! Gone! That's amazing! Thank you so much. Hoping for similar here, then - maybe it is just my cold!
  6. Hi Thyroid Nodule Friends Opening up this old thread that I started in 2014 - feels like yesterday. I've just been told by my GP that she can feel a nodule - thinks it is the same one I spoke of previously - but I have to get another u/s to check all is well. Since I started this topic I've had two u/s, with two aspirations and nothing found....
  7. Hi! In the UK an endoscopy is usually done with a sedative but believe it or not, not always. My coeliac friend was not even offered a sedative when she had hers done on the NHS. She told me she gagged a little when they were putting the tube down but that was all. I had a sedative (I had no option - I went private and that's the way they...
  8. Yes, that's interesting Gemini about B12. I heard it was at least 500 in Japan, I think, and it is interesting that 650 is considered good for general health in the States. I was surprised when a doctor a few months ago told me my levels of 250 were good - much better than the general population in the UK! I remember thinking that was a very odd remark...
  9. Hi pikakegirl That's really interesting that you had neuralgia as a result of low folate. I'm so sorry you were bed ridden - how awful. Did you also have trigeminal neuralgia? My face pain was preceded by odd facial twitching around the time of diagnosis. Some of those twitching hot spots on the right side of my face eventually progressed to...
  10. Hi Trents - I think cyclinglady has answered your question - I imagine in the States where I think you might live it is to do with insurance. Here in the UK I'd say it is hit and miss. On diagnosis I was told I had low iron and low normal B12. Only my iron has been tracked properly - any B12 tests have been requested by me, and the levels are usually around...
  11. Hi everyone After five years of my celiac diagnosis and being as compliant as I can with the diet I've just been tested - for the first time - for folate levels. The minimum level with my lab is 4 - whatever 4 means, and that is what I am. What interests me is that my B12 is good now - 400, after lots of supplementing, I always thought my tingling...
  12. Toblerone Almondy is another good gluten free cake. I'd also like to say 'full marks' to Marks and Sparks (!) as I noticed that when I was preparing some ready meals for my family the other days they stamp allergens on the removeable film on the top of the containers. Oh dear... just reading this entry makes me realise just how much I'm relying...
  13. Ginger might be worth a try. Open Original Shared Link I grate it into hot water and drink it and eat crystalised ginger too (but that's probably not good with all that sugar!)
  14. I think there has been a direct correlation with my anemia and hair thinning. Unfortunately I have to limit my iron intake as I have a suspected blood disorder but I'm a rare case - under normal circumstances I'd be supplementing much more as I feel it makes quite a difference. If I were you I'd get your iron tested and then supplement if on the low side...
  15. That's so interesting, Gemini. I had no idea. I have had trigeminal pain and my dentist thought it might be a tooth so I got an appointment to have the tooth filled - thinking that the appointment would take weeks to come through, but I was given a cancellation. I wasn't thinking straight - normally I wouldn't go to the dentists with a cold but I forgot...
  16. I hope you are feeling a bit better now - I;m sorry, have only just seen your reply. I wonder if it could be some sort of damage to a nerve. Let us know how you are getting on.
  17. Its good they found nothing on ultrasound. I was going to suggest that maybe it might be a hernia but I think an unltrasound would detect a hernia? When I was firs diagnosed I had lost a lot of weight very rapidly (about 10Ibs) and I was very bloated but also aware of lumps rather like you describe on either side, just above the hip/groin area. I asked...
  18. I second deb_rn's suggestion of oats (even those that are pure oats, deemed to be uncontaminated by gluten). Not a problem for most celiacs but I have had your symptoms on and off for a few days and I have just realised that a new shop bought gluten free cake I'd been eating uses oat flour. It may be sheer coincidence but I don't normally go anywhere near...
  19. It's funny because my cousin's wife has said to me on numerous occasions that the thing that she thinks would be most difficult to come to terms with, as a coeliac, is not being able to nip into a fast food outlet or eat out on a whim. When I was first diagnosed I was just so relieved I didn't have cancer - which they thought my blood readings might be...
  20. Just discovered that Mr Kipling are now doing gluten-free cakes and I found one in Tescos. If you have oat sensitivity check the labels but I have to say the Cherry Bakewell Loaf Cake is an 'Exceedingly Good Cake'!
  21. Hi again TS I've been thinking a lot about your posts. I remember hoping that when I went gluten free I would soon be super healthy, full of energy, a barely recogniseable, rejuvenated version of my former self! But going gluten free was not the silver bullet I'd hoped for. I think I'd set myself up for a bit of disappointment. I do know, however...
  22. Well done, Clara! Great news that you are starting to feel better. Great advice from Jmg above, too. I can only say that I have seen first hand a friend struck down with serious neuro stuff improve dramatically from giving up gluten, and she like you is not a celiac. She and I still have the odd issues with minor neuro damage (and for me it's been four...
  23. I can tell you that I have extreme pain on occasions with my two bunions (big toes). Often it takes the form of a really sharp 'bolt from the blue' type pain with absolutely no warning. Other times it is a slow burning feeling that has woken me at night. Then it subsides for months. I had it particularly badly before my diagnosis when my blood readings...
  24. Just name the date girls!
  25. You're welcome! It is interesting what leads to anxiety. There are lots of different causes. In my case I think it was a combo of low B12 and iron levels - mine were awful - and stress. For other people it can be post-natal depression, overtiredness, bereavement - the list is long. And of course there does seem to be a real link with gluten as a cause...
