  1. Hi Cyclinglady That's a very good point. Unfortunately, for reasons I'm not aware of, this test has never been offered to me since my initial diagnosis. Although my IGA (is that what it is) was over 100, they seemed far more worried about my liver enzyme tests which revealed I had elevated gamma globulins. Since then I'm very grateful to say I've...
  2. While I sit here playing this awful wait and see game, is there anyone out there who is reading this who can thrown any light on whether coeliac disease produces canker sores/ulcers that take much longer to budge? Any similar experiences? I am anemic too ... which I guess doesn't help....
  3. Hi Icelandgirl Thanks so much for your concern and that advice. I haven't tried that yet - good idea. I saw the dentist. Apparently it looks as if it might be healing but I'm to come back in a couple of weeks if it gets worse or doesn't go. Oh... the waiting game again. It never ends!
  4. Hello All I've suffered from painful, white canker sores and ones that bleed since well before the time I was diagnosed. They usually disappear in just a few days. Over the last couple of months my tongue has felt odd - over tingly when it brushes past my teeth - and lo and behold about three weeks ago I noticed what looked like a white canker...
  5. Ennis - Hi! This is really helpful. I've wondered about the sort of supplements based on yeast. I'll look into it. You are right - I'm sure my magnesium levels and potassium levels should be looked into, too. I don't think I've ever had a magnesium test but I did score low on potassium on a few occasions. I wish there was such a thing as a home...
  6. Hi gluten-free friends Is anyone supplementing with folic acid or folate? I'm wondering what the difference is and also, is it good to supplement these or is there a risk? (I've seen arguments either way). I totally understand it is better to eat vitamins than pop pills, but as my levels were just above the lowest borderline for normal when...
  7. Root ginger, a few slices, in boiling water. Leave to infuse for a bit. Sip this. I find it really soothing on the stomach.
  8. Yes... it's not good is it rarchy.? Most of the posts on this site about whole foods. Trust us Brits to lower the tone! When you are feeling like a treat why not try making some pastries with this. I can't find it in my local store but you may have more success. You will find, however, that new gluten-free products come up all the time. There...
  9. Well done! Thanks so much for that. And so rarchy, some good news!
  10. Actually, you may find you can tolerate small amounts of hard cheese like cheddar, even now. Something happens to the lactose in cheese - can't remember what - which means it is much lower in lactose than say a pint of milk. Hopefully I'm not spouting a load of nonsense here - please, scientists reading this, can you explain this better?
  11. Well done, Jmg. My husband has just brought home a pizza made by a major Pizza manufacturer. It really does seem that every day, in every way, being gluten free is getting easier and easier! http://www.goodfellaspizzas.com/our-range/gluten-free-range/
  12. Yes, French Fancies have to be next on the list. Yum. I wish you hadn't mentioned them, I want one NOW. It's great Mr Kipling are now in the ring. But I can't eat gluten-free oat flour so in actual fact I can't eat their bakewell cake....
  13. That is interesting about McDonalds fries, I had no idea... I don't really ever eat fast food anymore because I haven't found anywhere that is gluten free. It seems to me a lot of outlets such as Costa are very good at pre-packed sweet things, such as their Bakewell Tarts, but that isn't doing my waistline any good. Not really fast food but I have...
  14. Wow JMG, thanks for letting us know. Meanwhile, 'ere in rural middle of nowhere, our Tescos Express has practically empty shelves - like there has been a run on gluten free biscuits, cake and pasta. Very odd? Maybe the shelves looked full, until you posted your piccy 6 hours ago. Handbags at dawn. While I'm online, I feel I must recommend Tescos...
  15. Open Original Shared Link I'm not sure where you live in London but it might help to have a look at this website to try to find someone locally. My private nutritionalist is a member of this organisation. (The professional body for registered nutritional therapists.) Seeing the nutritionalist cost, from memory, £65 for the first visit, and then ...
  16. Hiya Rachel I was diagnosed in 2013 and have tried my best to follow a gluten-free diet ever since. These are the tests that I have had. I've marked with an asterisk those I had privately because I didn't want to wait in the NHS queue (through an accredited nutrionalist), although you should find the NHS will offer you iron and B12, and a bone scan...
  17. Ditto. However, this is what I can never understand about gluten free food. (see the bold bits which I've taken from the article) "We wanted to determine if gluten consumption will affect health in people with no apparent medical reasons to avoid gluten. Gluten-free foods often have less dietary fiber and other micronutrients, making them less...
  18. Its great - it tastes just how I remember Marmite used to taste - but then again, after four years of eating gluten-free bread which is beginning to taste like I remember glutenous bread - think I'm just getting used to it! - I'm not sure if I'd trust my sense of taste these days.
  19. I've not been a member of C UK for a couple of years now but I thought Snickers were OK in their last book? I think I need to join again. However, changing the subject, I have just discovered Tesco's own yeast extract spread, unlike Marmite, does not have gluten listed in its ingredients. Hooray!
  20. Come the Revolution all Lindt will be Gluten Free.
  21. This is great! Good of you to share (and nice of Coeliac UK to make the list accessible to those who are not members). Isn't it great, too, that we can eat Dairy Milk again for a while without gluten! Sooner or later I hope the penny will drop at Cadbury's that they don't need to stick gluten in their chocolate bars.
  22. I wonder if you have had your ferritin levels checked? It's important to do if you haven't. Open Original Shared Link Also, I've just discovered I have low folate and I'm going to see if supplementing that might help - for some reason all my supplements contain very little and so it is the one vitamin I know I'm low on. I gather low levels...
  23. Wow Alwayssomething - so I'm not the only one! I have had this problem with elasticated and tight waists too. I had to stop wearing certain clothes too. Any pressure on my waist or hips was a disaster. I think it pressed against my SI joints, but also added the pressure of trapped wind to an already painful area.
  24. I had inflammation of the sacroiliac joints which felt like lower back pain, and sometimese referred to my groin, abdomen and thigh. It was a burning sensation which showed up a few months after going gluten free, hung around for a while, then left me. I still get it midly from time to time, especially when I've been carrying heavy weights. It is apparently...
  25. Ah ... so that's why I've got a sweet tooth! Now I understand! Oddly enough I don't drink, smoke, do drugs or eat fast food either (although I did have a Gourmet Kitchen Burger the other day - did you know they did gluten-free? It was amazing!) So before I leave the doughnut question behind I'd just like to say, if a food manufacturer is reading...
