  1. Hi everyone. There is a lot in the press here in the UK about prediabetes and diabetes. I am an apple shape, as opposed to a pear, which I gather puts me more at risk. I have a lot of relatives with types 1 and 2 diabetes. I was diagnosed with celiac disease three years ago and the diet has been going so well that I am now putting on weight - I realise...
  2. Hi there Katie I had both bleeding and belly button pain. Bleeding was due to fissures, because just before diagnosis I had terrible diarrhea and I think just got very sore. Re: pain near belly button, I developed an umbilical hernia with my second pregnancy but didn't even notice it was there until I had burning pain there, I think when my little boy...
  3. Hi! I just wanted to say that your story reads so like mine symptom-wise in many ways, except I felt like someone was sitting on my shoulders, not my chest - most odd! My readings were 100 plus too. I also suspected they would find no damage and then I would be none the wiser. A good GI will take lots of samples. Let us know how you get on.
  4. Hi Sue I found this a helpful discussion, esp. what kareng says in the second post (dated 17 November 2013.) This link is in her post which is also helpful. Open Original Shared Link
  5. Hi Sue I'm in the UK, land of the Coeliacs with an 'o'! A friend of mine did not get a positive blood test but had an edoscopy done privately. It cost about £800 about two years ago. She did not have coeliac disease in the end but was diagnosed with non-coeliac gluten intolerance. She was just glad to have the peace of mind that nothing had been ...
  6. Hi Richie By the sounds of it you could have gluten sneaking in somewhere, or maybe blood sugar issues, or just plain anxiety, but it would be good to know for sure so you know what to do next. I think maybe the best course of action would be to see your GP and tell him/her all your symptoms. I dread seeing my own GP because as lovely as she...
  7. I think, if all this is caused by glutening, it could be that it takes a while to work its way out of your system. I should explain about what I said about organic broccoli. I don't have a problem with organic food, in fact, I buy organic milk and carrots all the time, but I don't want to try organic broccoli in case it is the broccoli that is the...
  8. Hi Richard Glad you are feeling better! Sorry - DX is an abbreviation for diagnosis. Thanks so much for the info about MSG, broccoli and IBS. Like you say, there is v. little bad press about broccoli. My aunt, who is a farmer's wife, put forward another theory that it might not have been the broccoli itself but rather some insecticide...
  9. Hi Richie I've put the above in quotes as you have described in the first and second sentence how I felt six months prior to my DX. In my own case, in the end I concluded it was anxiety after consulting Dr Google! It was such an alien feeling to me, I couldn't even think what it was, particularly as life was pretty good at the time. Anxiety...
  10. Hi Larry These are the initiatives being run here in the UK - it appears we have an awareness week here, not a month, but it is good start! Open Original Shared Link Cristiana
  11. A pleasure, Moff. It sounds like you are in good hands - it took several weeks for my pain to settle but while you are waiting for your other results if you try avoiding oats and milk that should help initially. By the way you are spelling coeliac (i.e. with an 'o') I am thinking you may be in the UK. If so I would think of joining Coeliac UK if you...
  12. Hi Moff and welcome to the forum. I wonder if you are eating oats? In the UK it is often recommended that newly diagnosed coeliacs keep off all oatmeal for about six months to give a badly damaged gut time to heal. Then oats can be gradually reintroduced, but remember, only gluten free ones known as pure oats (oats are naturally gluten free but...
  13. Hi Anne I am sorry - I have only just read your post of nearly a week ago. You certainly sound as if you have been through the wars. A rotator cuff tear is supposed to be very painful. I wonder if the doctor was referring to costochondritis. I think that is interesting what you are saying about nerves in the neck/spine. I find when I am...
  14. Hello Lacey I am so sorry you are going through all of this. Have you had an endoscopy/colonoscopy more recently?
  15. Hi Oli, I can relate to your symptoms. My joint pain was in my sacroiliac joints; I had tingling in my hands, calf muscle (left) and feet, sometimes woke up with numb arms and hands; some months after going gluten free I started to experience burning in a band around my rib and also hip (both left sided). The SI joint pain I gather is common in...
  16. Hello Wild Oats and welcome to the Forum I would imagine it would be worth pursuing a possible gluten connection with a more clued up doctor if you can. You may wish to share with the forum what part of the States you live in (or perhaps you are in another country?) as someone might be able to put you in touch with a hospital that can help. I am sorry...
  17. Hi Anne I think it would be a very good idea to see your audiologist. I live in the UK and will always be grateful for the National Health Service but increasingly I feel doctors are under so much pressure we can help them a lot by connecting these dots for them - although some might not welcome it, others do. You could well be onto something as isn...
  18. Interesting about the liver enzymes - they can sometimes hold clues. Any chance you can get a copy of those to share with us? It sounds like you might be having a flare of something along the lines you are suggesting. When you were away were you cooking all your own stuff? I am thinking about what cyclinglady has being saying and I am just wondering...
  19. I'm wondering if you can identify anything, anything at all that you have been eating or drinking that is a bit different to normal. Could there be something wrong with the water supply to your home (I guess if you live with others they would be feeling ill too?) Also, this burning thing, I have an umbilical hernia caused by a pregnancy... I am surprised...
  20. Hello Laura Welcome to the forum. I'm so sorry you are in all of this pain. I have a few questions. You mention the pain around your kidneys. Is there any chance you could have a kidney infection of some sort - I wonder if this is one of the things the doctors have looked at? What about the water sources you drank from whilst away...
  21. Hi again. Kam - it seems that six weeks is the recommended length of a gluten trial in the UK if you need to reintroduce it and I am fairly sure my own doctor said at least two slices of normal toast every day would be adequate - but you might want to check that. Open Original Shared Link I took it upon myself to eat everything I could that I...
  22. A couple of other things I forgot to say. The physical manifestations of coeliac disease are very real but if my own experience is anything to go by anxiety just makes everything a whole lot worse - too much adrenaline does a lot of strange things to us. If you are feeling very anxious try to see what steps you can take to alleviate anxiety. There...
  23. Hi Kam - I have just read your older post, too, and see you are in the UK? Am I right? I'm in the UK and I am only too well aware that the wheels role slowly in the NHS for these follow up appointments with a gastroenteroligst and then on top of that, the actual biopsy. I see from your previous posts that going private is not an option - I think...
  24. Great words of advice there. I have had my own fair share of weird blood test results but now try to keep in mind Gemini's wise words about autoimmune diseases affecting the figures, advice she has given me before too. I had elevated protein for a while and worried myself sick. It wasn't until I was bold enough to raise this matter direct with my gastroenteroligist...
  25. So interesting about the ham, cyclinglady. My British nutritionalist told me never to go near ham or bacon. I actually have dared to have a couple of slices recently because our labeling laws in Europe are supposed to stated if gluten has come anywhere into the manufacturing process, although one brand - I think Tescos - actually state theirs is gluten...
