  1. I have relapses and apart from small amounts of gluten I am seeing that even pure oats are really a problem for me (I think this is the case in about 10 per cent of celiacs?). I had some several weeks ago and have had a burning stomach and C ever since(not D, which is what I had at DX) but I also find that things I normally eat without problems will cause...
  2. Thanks so much for posting thread. It seems to me there could be a need for manufacturers to note that they are Oat Free, along the ever-growing list of symbols! I am too now experiencing bad headaches, something I thought I had left behind. Yuck!
  3. I shall be following the subject with great interest. Re: symptoms I have a lot of tingles, twinges and buzzes - some days with this electricity I am sure if they wired me up I could power the Christmas Lights in London's Regent Street. I have had all sorts of tests since DX including diabetes, MRIs, thyroid. Apart from a DX of ulnar compression I have...
  4. Thank you so much! I am definitely going to look into this. Since going gluten-free I have been increasingly reliant on products that probably share lines with oats but have never given it a thought! The gut pain I have gone through the two or three times I have eaten pure oats since DX lasts a long while so what on earth made me eat them again the other...
  5. I have just tried certified gluten-free pure oats again. I last tried them in November and had a burning sensation in my gut for some weeks so did not want to eat them for a while before trying again. So I had hoped now I am nearly two and a half years into the gluten-free journey I might be able to eat them again but I am in pain, yet again ,so have decided...
  6. Hi again Felix. I am sorry, I missed the bit about diabetes. I have a couple of other thoughts but I am not sure if they would be OK for a diabetic so forgive me if I'm not suggesting stuff you can eat. My grandmother often suffered from consitpation and I noticed that whereas we all had a cup of tea first thing in the morning she would have a cup of boling...
  7. Hi Felix When one adds fibre to the diet, which I am sure you are doing, it is also important to add extra liquid. A drink that might be worth trying is a cold glass of orange juice first thing - my daughter's teacher recommended it -and that seemed to help when she had similar problems. A really good gluten free probiotic might help. Walking a reasonable...
  8. And a couple of other things... A friend of mine was told to eat a banana and a handful of walnuts when anxiety strikes by a very well qualified nutritionalist. Something to do with serotonin - I really cannot remember, but she says it helps. Worth a try. Also, I found it is good to steer clear of caffeine and also avoid sugar highs and lows. ...
  9. The first of cascade of symptoms that eventually led to my diagnosis was extreme anxiety. I was having a lovely summer with my family, all was good in the world, yet I would wake up in the middle of the night feeling so charged with anxiety that I thought I too was going to take an exam - or make a speech to hundreds of people. I had racing thoughts and...
  10. While you are waiting for testing perhaps try peppermint tea and take some probiotics - both measures really helped with the trapped wind. Also exercise.
  11. Hi Victor and welcome When I finally got gastro symptoms I had that same burning sensation and suddenly dairy products were giving me D (although at the time I didn't dream it was celiac disease). I always considered that I had a nervous stomach but just didn't put all these things together. I think it is great you are seeing the doctor Thursday...
  12. So true about the bananas - a dear friend who qualified as a nurse here in the UK in the 1940s said that in Britain during WWII any bananas that made it through the maritime blockades were given to tiny children with stomach problems! As for the rest of the population, they had to do without, so much so that some children didn't even know what they looked...
  13. Hi Looking for Answers - sorry to interrupt - but I just had to tell you I think your muscle thing under your eye is very much like my problem. Mine probably would have got better by now but I ate a gluten cookie by mistake that really set it off one day. I do get pain, twitching, a light tingling on the apple of my cheek - on the whole it isn't getting...
  14. What it can capture is if you have thyroid nodules. I had a C-Spine MRI which showed them present. They then had to be investigated by ultrasound and samples were taken with a fine needle to check they were benign. If someone has had other thyroid difficulties revealed by MRI perhaps they can chime in.
  15. That is a very good point PCB... I should tag my next contribution so it appears when these experts search the net for answers. I shall have a look. Thanks.
  16. I had a temporary dairy intolerance which meant that even a few weeks after DX and going gluten-free milk went 'straight through me' and I had stomach pains and D. During those early days I still found small quantities of hard cheese tolerable though and tried to get my calcium through other sources. Now my villi are healed - well I believe they must...
  17. That is such a good idea re: antibodies. My consultant just monitors my liver function tests and iron - I should request that test, too. TBH, there is always room for improvement when it comes to my lifestyle - I don't eat out anymore but I think possibly our shared oven at home and shared pans are a problem. Thanks for your kind words.
  18. It is good you have a plan. I lost about six to eight pounds when my D started, in a very short time, then stabilised for a few months but the weight then crept up again slowly once gluten-free and now I am on a diet trying to lose what I have gained since healing! To be honest I didn't feel too ill at DX with stomach pains etc, my thing was wondering...
  19. Maddi, I am so sorry for all you are going through. I have to say I am no expert on the readings and what to do if one doesn't show as positive - maybe someone else can chime in - but it does sound like you are going to have to keep going back to the medical profession if you want answers. Although my own readings were in fact through the roof when I was...
  20. Hi Maddi I had neurological symptoms before my gastro symptoms really came to the fore. I had suffered migraines for years which latterly became visual auras. I don't have them now since being gluten-free (Spring 2013). I am still bothered by buzzing and tingles in the extremities and when that happens I take a B12 supplement which seems to help (my...
  21. Glad to have been of help. Just make sure that if you take any supplements they don't contain gluten!
  22. I know this I angled at young people - which I am not (in my 40s) but since diagnosis and going gluten-free my night vision when I drive has definitely improved. I told my optician who was at a loss but I was given a pretty heavy duty multivitamin to take when I was first recovering so maybe there was something in that. I imagine certain vitamin deficiencies...
  23. Hello twin, that's brilliant news!
  24. Commiserations. I was told to take amytriptelene or lyrica to help with pain that followed but didn't - but hopefully you won't have that problem, everyone's experience is different. I found rest the best medicine. xx
  25. Hi Joshua I wonder have you had your iron and B12 levels checked? If not please do. I was low in both and believe you me, these deficiencies can make you feel anxious and things just don't seem or look right - I experienced so many of these symptoms. I then worried about how I felt and it just made things even worse. I am thankful I found the Anxiety...
