Hello All Well it is nearly two years now since my gastro symptoms started, although I think I could say that before that I had tingling in my fingers, buzzing on the back of my legs, twitching in my face, for about six months - minor but annoying. I was then diagnosed with celiac disease in the Spring of 2013. My blood iron and B12 levels were very...

ARCHIVED Inflammation In Ribs That Keeps Coming Back

Janpell - thank you again. I have had my annual mammogram and ultrasound today, the pain over the last year has been so bad that I was really glad the radiographer was prepared to go the extra mile and give me an u/s as I was so sure they had missed something last year. But no, clear tests, thank the Lord. I did notice after they did the side shot it affected... -

Thanks so much - I ought to try eliminating some of these other foods as I don't think gluten is the substance that makes me sore, I really don't have it in my diet at all now unless it is CC. Couldn't agree more about needing to get on top with the inflammation problem. Yesterday I was in bed with the early stages of what felt like flu and I tried... -
ARCHIVED Low Energy And Feeling Depressed

Couldn't agree more with ravenoodglass. B12 levels are so important and for me at the early stages, when my B12 was low, taking B12 in pretty large amounts made all the difference with my anxiety - I mean like night and day. And still if I get tired again I take a sublingual B12 in the morning and I don't fall asleep at night in front of the TV at 1... -
ARCHIVED Fodmaps...does Anyone Follow This Eating Plan.
cristiana replied to icelandgirl's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Oddly enough someone I know was only telling me the other day how it has absolutely changed her life. She isn't a celiac but she says that, for example, a ripe banana and an unripened banana (not sure which is high or low fodmap) will literally mean the difference between having D ten minutes later and not having D at all. So she said that it works. -
I agree with nvsmom, getting your levels checked would be valuable - here in the UK I was offered ferritin, B12 and D. Ferritin was very low. B12 borderline, D OK. Long and the short of it is I have had so much more energy since taking iron supplements and B12. I saw two nutritonalists and the private one was brilliant. She told me to make sure I...

It is good that you have sounded out your sister, too. I really hope that everything goes well with your interview tomorrow. In the meantime, as I said, try not to worry about your doctor. Hopefully the new person will be appointed before your doctor leaves so you won't need to worry about the other doctor. Take care.

I do sympathise, when one finds a good doctor it can take a long time to really build up that relationship. I live in the UK and my own GP that diagnosed me left shortly afterwards. The doctor that replaced my GP was so much younger (she looks so young too!) and I was concerned but you know what - she has been absolutely brilliant. All my fears were...

KEMB - interesting, it seems to me that that area is a junction for a lot of different muscles, nerves, tendons etc so I guess this is why it is so complicated. I do have a friend who has been thoroughly checked out but has almost constant pain in her left breast - she was told, 'Its your ribs'. I really appreciate your comments, you have really put... -

Thank you for your further input, Bartfull. It sounds a marvellous thing - I used to be skeptical too of so much, but when my B12 and blood iron was so low and I started to take supplements I could not believe the difference it made and so quickly. Just a few tablets or a few drops of this and that... amazing. KEMB - I am so grateful for your input... -

Thank you so much. It is one of those weird almost itchy pains (kind of feeling you get when your muscles feel sore) except it is along the ribs. I have never really understood the difference between the two conditions but thankfully mine has never felt as bad as some people get it when it mimics heart pain. Everything I read says take NSAIDS so it is... -

Hello I was told under a year ago that I had inflammation in my ribs, left side. It has flared up again quite badly, in fact now I would say it feels more like descriptions of Costochondritis that I read on line rather than the Tietze syndrome I was diagnosed with. I feel it around my sternum, to the left side: it is very tender and seems to... -
ARCHIVED 8 Year Old - Behavior Issues And Anxiety
cristiana replied to missdiamondbc's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't say I have had any experience of knowing any children with celiac disease but what I did want to say is every time I read the word 'anxiety' on this forum I think back to my own diagnosis, when I was feeling so anxious, and they discovered I was extremely anemic and my B12 was also low. Almost as soon as I was put on supplements I felt vastly better... -

Oh .... forgot to add this. This explains the biopsy bit. This tells the experts how much the villi have been damaged. Open Original Shared Link (PS excuse English spelling of celiac! I still don't know why we spell it differently!) -
ARCHIVED Still Showing Damage
cristiana replied to Katie876's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Katie I think Kareng is right - it varies so much. I wouldn't be too anxious about it. I have never had a second follow up endoscopy although I'd quite like one just because I'd like to see how much I have improved with all my hard work (minus a few accidental glutenings) after all these months. I was really in a bad way at diagnosis and really... -
So righ MycasMommy ... rice pasta is excellent. Also, although gluten-free bread does take some getting used to I think it tastes so much better if you toast it. Re: cramps: sliced ginger allowed to diffuse in boiling water can be very calming the stomach. Drink it warm. You may find it easier to avoid dairy while you are doing the challenge - I got...

Hi Nora Welcome to the Forum. Further to that great advice above, I just wanted to tell you so sorry you found out about Ibuprofen the hard way - I did too. It took a few weeks for my stomach to stop feeling sore. I don't say that to discourage you, I'm just saying in case it happens and you are concerned. I have a couple of coeliac friends here...

ARCHIVED Wonky Blood Tests Esp. Liver Enzymes Tests (Or Liver Function Tests In The Uk)
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hope all goes well on Monday. I remember after my diagnosis my own gastroenterologist saying it was not common to have strange liver function tests but it did happen. He had just seen someone else with odd blood readings but they had come back down in line in response to a gluten-free diet. But he never had the time to explain why - this is why Gemini... -

Girls... thanks you all so much for your various contributions. Gemini, I just have to say it again that it is good that someone else has travelled down this route with me. Elevate blood protein has not been my only other weird symptom over the years, my health insurance call advisor actually laughed when I was ringing up about cover - he said he had... -

Gemini - that is an amazing reply, it must have taken an age to do all that typing so I really do appreciate it. Thank you so much. Thank goodness I am not the only celiac with this! I must admit I did find one other article that linked gamma globulins to celiac disease, but it took some searching. It was to do with why this protein might be elevated... -

Hi flowerqueen. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply ... I find the UK system quite odd as my celiac friends have all had different follow ups. One has barely seen a a doctor, just a nutritionalist, two of them have had tests just tracking the Celiac numbers. Why am I the only one having Liver Function Tests/Liver Enzyme Tests? It makes me... -
ARCHIVED Backpacking Through Europe
cristiana replied to caistor's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
He'll find things a little easier in the UK now as we have a new law that says all allergens (and that includes gluten) need to be listed at restaurants/cafes etc. So when you go out you can ask to see their list. Exercise caution, though, as although this legislation is well-meant I have already encountered a few problems... such as a lovely gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Wonky Blood Tests Esp. Liver Enzymes Tests (Or Liver Function Tests In The Uk)
cristiana posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Having read this forum for a while I have come to understand that Celiacs often have odd blood results, which quite often, although not always, normalise after the adoption of a gluten-free diet. In my own case before diagnosis I had abnormally low blood iron, borderline B12 and slightly elevated total blood protein (globulins were responsible for this... -

Hi Jennifer Well done for coming here for help... that is a great start . I'm just wondering, do you have some good friends that you can enlist to be your 'gluten-free buddies' in this? What I mean is perhaps you could explain to a few of your friends what is going on, show them this website, etc so they see the potential seriousness of not sticking... -
ARCHIVED Two Years gluten-free, Months Of Abdominal Pain. Anyone Can Relate? Foods?
cristiana replied to alesusy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had some gluten free oats a couple of months ago and felt awful for some weeks afterwards. Do you eat gluten-free oats? It has also taken me some months to realise that orange juice actually gives me pain and bloating and other gastro symptoms. But it has taken me such an age to realise that and suffering from health anxiety hasn't helped at all! All...
