ARCHIVED Cloth Napkins
jerseyangel replied to SilverSlipper's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wouldn't worry about cloth napkins--they're really no different than dish towels. Once they been washed and dried I'd consider them perfectly safe. -

This is what I do: In a non stick skillet put 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk and cook over medium heat until it comes to a boil and thickens up. Whisk often to keep it smooth. Reduce heat to low and stir in 2 cups of grated cheese--whisk till melted and smooth. Turn off heat, add a tablespoon of butter, salt and pepper...

ARCHIVED Burning Skin Sensations
jerseyangel replied to IrishHeart's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I used to have this. Before going gluten-free, I had feelings of burning on the soles of my feet, on my face, and the inside of my mouth. If I felt the skin on my face it felt like I had a high fever but I didn't. It was awful. I would sometimes drink ice water and hold some in my mouth for as long as I could to get a little temporary relief. It did... -

Happy start to the week! We went to PF Changs Saturday night--had me phav Lemon Chicken and Mark and I shared a whole bottle of wine. Polished off the entire thing. Just sayin.... Also, his company had a booth at the NJ Home Show over the weekend. We went and spent some time there, which was phun. There was a guy at the show selling 1000 thread... -
I also had night sweats before going gluten-free, and rarely got a full night of uninterrupted sleep.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free 5Days- Haven't Seen Anyone With My Symptoms
jerseyangel replied to glutenjunkie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I remember in my early gluten-free days, I experienced lower abdominal cramping and after eating I could "feel" what I ate moving along my digestive tract. I also had a lot of fatigue--I would say that your system is adapting. In some of is it takes a bit longer. -

jerseyangel replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was able to reincorporate milk and dairy products after several years. I don't like to drink milk (alone from a glass), but I use it all the time. I buy organic fat free. -
ARCHIVED Best Cleaner To De-Gluten The Kitchen
jerseyangel replied to cap6's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I read a study where Formula 409 removed peanut protein from counter tops better than soap and water (and I thought maybe it would work similar on gluten--just a hunch). I have a bottle of it at my son's house and spray down the counter and sink (and wipe with paper towel) for myself when I'm there. He has a very small kitchen and is a gluten eater... -

ARCHIVED Need Something For Headache!
jerseyangel replied to Newtoitall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I use either Extra Strength Tylenol or Extra Strength Bufferin. -
Great thought. I believe that at this point, your body kind of knows what it needs. I remember a hundred years ago when I was going through it, reading that one function of the nausea was to keep us from taking in things that might be harmful to the baby. Probably an old wives tale--but then again, I'm an old wife Sending good, calming thoughts...

I feel so bad for you--I was that way with my first. Nausea from about 5 weeks until delivery. Awful. This was 30 years ago, and I was given anti-nausea meds by my doctor (can't recall the name) but they didn't really help. Each pregnancy is different, even in the same woman. With my second, I had the nausea with vomiting (which I did not have the...
