  1. Those sound really good! Thanks for sharing
  2. Judy--I would say the same applies to the microwave--I keep it clean inside by wiping down the walls and taking the glass dish out and washing it in hot, soapy water. Make sure to wipe the handle often with a soapy dishcloth. Beyond that, I put my food on a clean plate in the microwave.
  3. My sister, who is dairy and soy free, snacks on Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips--right from the bag.
  4. Please don't be so hard on yourself--there are so many changes and so much to think about when we're first Dx--it's natural that the realization that we can't have something that we have always loved would make us sad. I remember the day I was in a resturant and afraid to order anything, but still hungry. I got tears in my eyes that day, too. That was...
  5. Hi Nikki--I am glad to hear that your husband is doing better. It sounds like such a difficult situation for you both--your strength is amazing. To answer the question about gluten reaction, I get anxiety and heart palpitations and my hands and feet sweat when I have a reaction. They tend to linger on even after the digestive stuff goes away. I hope he...
  6. Hi everybody--I have an appt. on Friday with my GP. I saw my Gastro. last week, but he brushed off the questions I had for him on this subject. As far as he was concerned, the only thing I have to be dilligent about is gluten. So, my question is--is there a particular test I should ask for or should I suggest an independent lab? I have read many posts...
  7. Hi Carole--Unless a product is made in a dedicated facility, there is always a risk of CC. That said, I think it's an individual decision based on trial and error--how sensitive a person is to food from a particular co. I do fine with some things, not so well with others. I tend to do well with Kraft foods, but not Barbara's Bakery foods. The only things...
  8. Rache--So glad you are feeling better
  9. Maybe take a deep breath and re-read Jnkmnky's original post--to me, it looked like she had come across some information she thought would be helpful, and added her own experience with the issue in question. Isn't that what we do here all the time?
  10. I clench my teeth both in my sleep, and when awake (it's called bruxism). I sometimes would wake up, and my bottom teeth would be pressing so hard against my upper ones that I was afraid I would cause them to break. My GP sent me to an ENT and he Dx me with TMJ disfunction--after the exam and hearing my history, he said I was a classic case. The ENT told...
  11. Hi Tiffany--I wouldn't worry about the toaster oven, or your regular oven, for that matter. It's only the surface that touches your food that you need to be concerned with, so if the pan, plate or whatever you are using are clean, then no problem. You can always do what I do--use foil whenever you are in doubt. I use tons of it now! I got my own toaster...
  12. OMG--I'm still laughing--
  13. Mango--I am going to look for the gum you mentioned--I love to chew gum but am having a hard time finding one that agrees with me. I used to be able to chew any type of gum--reg. or sugar free. Not any more!
  14. My absolutely favorite thing was brownie batter! I had to stop it though when I got scared of salmonella. Looking back, I should have been more scared of the flour!
  15. Hi and welcome in--glad you found us! I had symptoms very similar to yours before I was Dx. I was having D--urgent, explosive, with a lot of cramping. Nausea, stomach pain, etc. I also was living on Cream of Rice just to get to the Dr. appts.! Are you off gluten? Since you have had the biopsy, you can go gluten-free no matter what the Dr. says. If...
  16. I have to add that I don't advise using that cream or any product on the face, especially, that has wheat or oats. It can and will find it's way into your mouth--

    ARCHIVED New Doctor...

How interesting--Why don't all doctors use these tests? Jeesh
  18. I have made The gluten-free Pantry Pie Crust using the Spectrum shortening and it was very good. Also the Snickerdoodle recipe on the gluten-free Pantry Cake and Cookie mix bag. Yummy and easy! Trying to go easy on the baked goods--I have a Dr. appt. on Fri. and am going to ask her about food allergy testing. This is my GP--the Gastro last week didn't...
  19. I also want to add that I use Spectrum Organic All-Vegetable Shortening--it comes in a tub and I found it at Whole Foods. It's 100% organic palm oil. (www.spectrumorganics.com) I found I like to use a bit more of it than I would Crisco. In the future, I think I am going to experiment with a little butter flavor mixed in. I love the way Butter Flavor Crisco...
  20. Judy--I love Crazy Richard's Peanut Butter
  21. Jen--a thought--would it help to bake at a lower temp. for a longer time? I know what you mean about being a good baker before gluten-free. Over the holidays, I felt like I had to learn all over again. Your Dad sounds great
  22. Yea--It's so nice when it's listed. Lay's Stax also list gluten free on their label.
  23. Thanks Blue--I didn't know that about UTZ snacks. I always kind of stick with the Lay's. I will give them a closer look the next time I go shopping!
  24. Hi Swatson and BB22--Welcome! The muscle cramping and bone pain are symptoms that affect a lot of us. After 7 months gluten-free, I still get the cramping in my legs and feet quite often. The pain is better, though. Now when I get a gluten reaction, the pain in my legs and back comes back. I also had the tingling in my face, arm, legs and feet--along...
  25. That is how it is with me! I feel like I need to eat--especially in the afternoon hours (even after lunch!) I thought it was just me
