  1. Every adult I know loves those things, myself included. The adults I know who are parents caveats that with noting that you've got to keep the kids from eating too many.
  2. I don't know about the night, but I'm going skiing that day!
  3. most of those issues can be worked around. you *can* go out to eat with friends (though your options will be very limited many times) if you do the research ahead of time (silly yaks guide is helpful, and free, here). you *can* eat at family meals if they're in any way willing to work with you. you still can if they're not by bringing your own...
  4. For a Hungarian variation (we called it stuffed cabbage), we neither used toothpicks to hold them together, cooked rice, or baking. Instead, it was a very similar recipe, but using (I think) about 1/2 cup uncooked rice to each 1lb ground meat. After rolling the cabbages up very loosely to allow for rice expansion, we'd put them in a large pot, fill it...
  5. Gah! That's scary! I know it's the helplessness of our little-fur (or feather-) babies that makes it so much harder, but *shudder*. I'm glad he's doing ok now, though. It's so tough to tell with these people sometimes. They react *so* differently, that it's harder to figure out the approach, and sometimes I think the dread of the ever changing...
  6. You have two valid, positive tests (the dietary challenge is one of them), and one invalid negative test. IMHO, you should listen to your body.
  7. Shampoo/Conditioner: many are fine, just read the ingredients; I've used Pantene, Dove, and SkiKai, in addition to a botanical one from Trader Joe's, recently Body wash: many are fine, just read the ingredients (I use soap, so I don't have a particular recommendations) Face Soap: the same soaps I mentioned below , though I use Neutrogena's Acne wash,...
  8. Well, victimization is a form of attention. I've been in the "ok... guess there's no conversation to get into... including the weather" sorts of situations before, and sometimes that's all there is, because the other person is so skilled at drawing out the negative attention seeking behavior that there is no positive, or even neutral, common ground to find...
  9. 1. Which IgE is that first test of? Whatever it is, it looks like he's got a pretty high, classic allergic response to it. 2. The quantitative IgA I am assuming to be a total serum IgA, in which case, he's IgA deficient. 3. Because he's IgA deficient, a negative anti-gliadin IgA can't tell you anything. He normally doesn't produce enough IgA, so trying...
  10. Some psych's suck. A good doc/patient relationship here is all about interpersonal compatibility, and you won't be compatible with everyone, so if you decide to go that route at some point, don't be afraid to do a little hunting around, and asking for recommendations.
  11. extra magnesium (most people don't get enough anyway) can help. good luck!
  12. I'm glad you liked it! It does make some tasty leftovers.
  13. Totally understandable, and kudos for recognizing it. That, in itself, is liberating, I think. Though it does mean that you are deciding to not try one other thing that might fix this. In that end, you are deciding to allow this to continue further. That may be a totally valid decision for a number of different reasons, of course, but it something that...
  14. Read this. You'll probably find it elucidating. The HLA-DQ2 Gene Dose Effect in Celiac Disease is Directly Related to the Magnitude and Breadth of Gluten-Specific T-Cell Reponses Open Original Shared Link In-depth discussion on difference between DQ2.5 and DQ2.2 homo- and heterozygous individuals and binding affinity to various gliandin peptides...
  15. *nods* Yep, fairly normal. Given the extent to which it's affecting your life, I would encourage you to work with a psychologist on this one. Your reaction is totally normal, really, and it's one you certainly *can* change. I only recommend someone who's trained in dealing with these situations to make a quicker, cleaner change than doing it solo would...
  16. She's being quite self-centered (in the bad way) and manipulative. But have you talked to her - calmly and logically - about any of this? And by that, I specifically mean have you clearly identified the particular behaviors that you cannot accept and been clear about your expectations in those areas in their place? I went through something quite shockingly...
  17. So don't make it conforming. You can have whatever you want to have. Heck, it could be "whatever he comes up with" day, for that matter. It's only turkey because someone dictates turkey or isn't inventive enough to do something different. (I hate conformity for conformity's sake. I think there are reasons for it, but not intrinsic ones.) As for...
  18. Unfortunately, wheat hides in lots of things. Do you use soy sauce? It probably has wheat in it. Do you use broth or boullion? Many, though by no means even most, have gluten. Every try Rice Dream? It has gluten in it. Eat Rice Crispies, Corn Chex, or other non-wheat based mainstream cereals? They have gluten. Makeup, lotion, vitamins, medications...
  19. I'm thinking the same thing as ursa - a real cold takes a while to set in. It's possible, of course, but there's no way of determining that on your own. It's more likely that the spin that your immune system was sent into is causing a number of extra symptoms.
  20. When I get back, I'll post a picture of one of the appliances in my kitchen. They certainly can look cold, but if they are in a warm and inviting kitchen, they certainly don't have to. My kitchen has cherry heart wood and a warm brown/red granite that keeps the stainless steel from looking institutional in any way whatsoever. If you pair it with white...
  21. If you have eliminated all food sources of gluten, all contamination sources of gluten, all vitamin/health care/skin care sources of gluten, and so on, to be *strictly* gluten free, and have elminated other food intolerances, and have seen absolutely no change in the past few months, then I'd say that ingesting gluten or not makes no difference to your body...
  22. perhaps he was talking about regular, smooth stainless steel, which relatives have and they *do* say they are hard to keep clean - particularly fingerprints. the brushed stuff is great!
  23. We have kitchenaid brushed stainless steel appliances, and have no problems with them getting dirty at all. They hide dirt quite well, actually. ;-) (Well, aside from the microwave over the stove, but *nothing* could keep from getting dirty there, and it's still not all that noticeable. )
  24. "Rude" is a relative term; everyone thinks something different is rude. The only way to know what is the right thing to do with his family is to ask them. I would vote for bringing something that fits in but is safe, but only they can answer whether or not that would be 'rude' to them. (And bollux to them if they think it is. )
  25. Thanks for sharing the info. Those are probably good things to check for in most of Rainbow Light's vitamins. They've got a lot of gluten free stuff, but they put wheat grass and barley grass in a few items.
