  1. Acid/base chemistry will get ya every time! As for the xanthum gum, where does the corn come in? I know the substance itself comes from the cell wall of a bacteria. Is the bacteria grown on corn?
  2. I've heard of a couple - at least one was when I called for something else, while I was on hold. Hence, I think calling and asking is the way to go to find out if your credit card company offers it. And, if they don't, you can ask them to! :-)
  3. Amex is the only company I've seen really advertise the one-time use numbers, but other companies will do the same thing, if you call them and ask to set it up. Gotta be proactive about these things. Other than the common sense things, check your credit report regularly (you get a free one every year now), and *ALWAYS* check your statement and verify...
  4. Open Original Shared Link lists a number of compounding pharmacies (scroll down to get CA - there are fewer in NorCal than SoCal, though). It will varying depending on your insurance, of course, but in my experience (I use a compounding pharmacy for the testosterone I've been taking for the past two years) it is somewhat more expensive (depending on the...
  5. Find a local compounding pharmacy and see if they can make your thyroid meds without corn. That may be a way to try it out.
  6. Yes, according to the manufacturer, it is. Some people still find it doesn't agree with them (the coloring, perhaps?), but it is gluten-free.
  7. Even when you write "ask for ID", they often don't check. (I do this.) But it's better than actually signing it. BUT, it's not like they actually check the signatures! Open Original Shared Link
  8. It's also important to practice good "computer safety" by making sure not to download software that could put keyloggers on your machine (or other malware), or visit sites that would do so, and to regularly check your machine for just such things. (Of course, as Sony's recent rootkit taught us, this isn't quite foolproof either, but it's a reminder that...
  9. lol! I've been thinking about it, off and on, for ... five, six years? and I have a number of friends/family who are vegetarian/vegan for a number of moral/health reasons. here's a recipe I made yesterday when I was tired/lazy: 1 can garbanzo beans, drained 1 large carrot 2 cloves garlic, crushed 1 tablespoon olive oil 1/4 tsp cumin 1/8 tsp chili...
  10. biopsy it. either one can be determined by biopsy.
  11. I've thought about going vegetarian for a number of reasons (the following being equally important to me): 1. the meat industry, in general, has some abysmal practices. absolutely abysmal. living in a capitalist society, not being terribly politically active (beyond voting), I speak my preferences in my consumption choices, and I wouldn't choose to perform...
  12. hemmies are a sign - for me - that I've gotten dairy. if the stool itself has blood *in* it, not on, you should be referred to GI's or other docs until they figure out what's going on.
  13. It varies for me - apple sauce often works. Almonds sometimes. Tea w/ honey.
  14. The "I'd die if I couldn't have..." comment is really just a way for someone to express that they don't know how to relate to you. It's a bad way, and an insensitive way, but a way. They're not saying that you should eat the offending item, and they're not saying that they'd do so in that situation. They're trying to say "Oh, with our world of gluten-filled...

Talk to your teacher about the poses you don't enjoy. If you're not enjoying them because they're uncomfortable, there should be a way - with corrections or props - to make the pose better suited to you.
  16. raw food recipes would provide you with a way to make it (look online or in cookbooks). they're generally nut based - particularly raw cashew.

Hmm... What you're describing doesn't actually (for the most part) point to one style or another, but rather to picking the right teacher and level, though there are probably styles you'll want to avoid. For instance, you could certainly do Iyengar (a particular variety of hatha that's pretty strict and precise about alignment but will progress you quickly...

Not an instructor yet... I'll probably start teaching in June, but I've got years of training ahead of me. It's a never-ending process. :-) If I learned nothing else this week, it's how little I know, even after five years of practice. I'm glad you're enjoying it. :-)
  19. it should be CF, but always check the ingredients. I'd vote for scharfenburger, or green&black myself, but chocolate is a lot by preference. dagoba is good too, but check the link I posted about their recall of three particular flavors. hershey's would be fine as well, though I've never liked their dark chocolate - the texture always seemed off to...
  20. Welcome to the group. It's a tough transition at first, but like all new skills, once you get the hang of it, it'll be easier. You've found a wonderful, supportive, informative, helpful bunch of people who'll have lots of information and support for you - and will welcome any information and support you have as well! :-)
  21. Skittles makes a smoothie mix?! I think the idea of smoothie mixes is kinda silly in the first place, but ... wow... is there anything in it other than whey and sugar?! ;-P (Yeah, yeah, I'm being something of a smartass... )
  22. If she's lavo-octo vegetarian and not hypoglycemic or diabetic, she should be fine, BUT, *before* making the switch, I would encourage both of you to spend a couple weeks reading up on proper vegetarian nutrition and figuring out how you're going to approach this as a team. She'll need to be eating more fresh veggies (they have more protein than fruit),...
  23. seitan. it is nothing but pure wheat gluten. :-) found in the asian section of a well stocked store, or an asian market.

Always, *always*, *ALWAYS* a class. ALWAYS Can't really state it strongly enough. My training this week only served to emphasize that, and I don't say it to put money in the pockets of someone who's teaching. If cost is an issue, then only go once a week, or once every other week, or once a month, but at least once a month. The thing is, if you...
