  1. My psychologist believes I have dysthymia, but I haven't been diagnosed with depression. (Probably would be if I investigated it at all.) I take St. John's Wort twice a day for that. (400mg, I believe.) If I ever have a big problem sleeping, I try to make sure to get exercise, and if that doesn't work, I have tried Valerian prior to bed, and that has...
  2. they've got too much sugar for me.
  3. fwiw, almost all nail polish has phlalates, a fat-soluble toxin that can build up in humans and is absorbed throug the skin. it's one reason I don't wear the stuff. (but it's a personal call, of course.)
  4. I definitely encourage making extra muffins any time you get around to making some and sticking them in the freezer. Same thing if you make pancakes or waffles. They'll stay good for quite a while in the freezer, and they'll heat alright in the microwave in a pinch if you have the need.
  5. if you can find plain whole milk yogurt that does not have any sugar added, and are keeping the rest of your carbs low enough, then, yes, I believe it can fit into the first stage of atkins. finding plain, whole milk yogurt without added sugar, however, can be hard.
  6. I think it's hilarious! Yes, it's poking fun at the idea that "people are all saying they're intolerant to something these days", but new things are often ridiculed before they are accepted. I'll take what I can get for now. Twenty years from now... We'll see who's laughin'! ;-)
  7. In the pacific northwest, I can get them at Safeway, QFC, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Larry's, and the smaller health food stores as well.
  8. Did you heat them before rolling? That reduces the cracking problem a lot.
  9. Actually, it's not honey. Its nectar from the agave plant - the same stuff that's fermented(?)/distilled to make tequilla. It's a bit sweeter than honey (so you need less of it) and the light agave has a milder flavor that makes it better suited to things that don't play well with honey. It also has a lower glycemic index than honey, so it doesn't spike...
  10. It's time for us all to make our own almond milk. :-P
  11. I was just surprised by the reaction you displayed. The only thing that came to mind was shame - that she's ashamed that she's diabetic. While it's easy for us to say that there's nothing more ridiculous, we're not in her shoes. Good luck with that one. It's going to be a tough situation.
  12. Yep. My primary symptom of continued glutening is C. If I'm just glutened once, I get D at first, but if I'm glutened again before I recover, it's C. So, of course, prior to being dx'ed, it was C.
  13. A weak positive just means that there isn't enough damage to have a large amount of antibodies being released into the blood stream. She's still got it. For instance, you can 'appear' a little bit pregnant if you don't have a lot of symptoms and never show a lot, but you're still definitely pregnant. A weak positive just means that there isn't enough...
  14. Really, the only thing to do is try the gluten-free breads one by one (in order of recommendation would be my suggestion, of course), and see what you like. It's not an easy thing to find. After two and a half years, as someone who used to love bread, however, I can tell you that it actually isn't that hard to live without if you give your tastebuds permission...
  15. There isn't lots of gluten-free specialty stuff, because they primarily carry their own brand, but a lot of what they carry is gluten-free as well. What I like is that I can get good quality stuff - without stupid additives - at reasonable prices. It's where I stock up on Almond Breeze and Imagine Broths.
  16. There's a lot of room left for growth at the age of 7, so if celiac is the only issue, no, I don't think that will be a permanent hamper.
  17. I prefer Almond Breeze almond milk (TJ's carries it) but Pacific's is alright too...
  18. powdered unsweetened cocoa (I use ghiradelli's most often), soy or almond milk, and agave to taste! :-)
  19. make a bit extra and take it for lunch so you have something to eat. grab some fruit and nuts. bring a rice cake or two. there are lots of options.
  20. You can still be sent overseas working for a private contractor - off base anyway. I've done plenty of business travel working in the defense business. If you were being housed on a base and not allowed to leave for security reasons, though, I could see that disqualifying you.
  21. well, the scratch test would have tested you for IgE mediated casein allergies. IgE mediate allergies are also the ones that release histamine, so are the ones that taking an antihistamine like zyrtec or benadryl would affect. but you could have an IgG intolerance, would wouldn't show up on the scratch test or be affected by the antihistamine.
  22. In the first case, I agree with your husband - you can't control her behavior, no matter how wrong it seems. Yes, it's frustrating, sad, and you might even argue stupid. But the only thing to do is let her know that you are worried about her, and disappointed in her choice, and cannot support her choice, but do accept that she's made it, because there's...
  23. I think the portion control issue is an interesting one. Portion control, in the strictest sense of the word, is obviously needed, because absolutely no control of portion in any sense means you would always just keep eating. Many people who say that 'portion control is not needed' often mean that artificial portion control beyond the body's hunger signals...
  24. Stash and Celestial Seasonings are good.
  25. You sent me a PM, and I wanted to reply, but your message box is full and it won't send the mail!
