  1. the east coast list covers the midwest as well.
  2. I have been thinking about doing that with my recipes (though I was thinking of self-publishing), but as like everyone else - where's the time?! ;-)
  3. if you opt to try fasting, make sure to 'wean' down your carbs before hand - have plenty of protein and fat the days before, and no single meals high in carbs. but I do believe there are medical 'exemptions' to the fast.
  4. quick note - that's the east coast list. the Open Original Shared Link list has also been updated, though.
  5. My husband (not celiac) does this a little bit - not enough to warrant a mouth guard, but enough to annoy me. For a while, it worked for me, whenver I noticed it, to just poke him in his sleep, and say "stop grinding your teeth". :-P
  6. Ruth's Hemp Bars - well, really just the flax ones, but they're good!
  7. rice bran is the bran off of the rice. same way as with wheat bran. it's part of the outer covering on the grain itself. it's high in fiber, and it might cause problems for you. are you bothered by plain white rice or brown rice?
  8. "It's too hard to test, so we won't try to fix this." Bah. Stupid doctor. Remind her that SHE is paying for HIS service. She's the boss! It's up to HER to decide if her own children can deal with the blood draw.
  9. what about other seeds? are flax seeds ok? if so, soaking flax seeds for a while then dehydrating them makes a lovely cracker. I think I've got my sundried tomato cracker recipe (oven baked) in my 'as promised, a few recipes' post in the recipes section. they're quite flavorful, and fairly easy to make.
  10. while I don't discount the desire for gluten containing foods, eating healthy doesn't deprive you of food, good food, tasty food, or decadent food. I entertain all the time, and only cook Gluten-free Casein-free, and out of the 24 people who have eated at our house in the past five months, all of them have loved and asked for recipes for the food I've made...
  11. my husband and I prefer welshire farms chicken nuggets because they have more flavor - that may be a reason that some people *don't* like them, though.
  12. I think the divide between getting symptoms and not cheating, and not getting symptoms and cheating, is interesting. Though I don't get much in the way of symptoms - certainly nothing definitive that I was glutened, I've read enough about the damage to my system that I won't risk it and never cheat. I'd probably be in the 'never cheat because it hurts...
  13. J&J says that ACT is fine. (Good for sensitive teeth too.) But another good option, without flouride, is just to use hydrogren peroxide.
  14. A lot of exercise can affect your digestive system as well. You might try cutting your exercise in half for a week, and seeing if that makes any difference.
  15. orberto (without soy sauce - just check the label) is gluten-free, but making your own tastes better! ;-)
  16. You might have a fish allergy (which is separate from a shellfish allergy). You should check with a allergist on this one, particularly as you said you experienced fairly severe symptoms.
  17. The banana bread I made the other day did very well with a combination of 2 parts montina flour, 2 parts white sorgum flour, and 1 part sweet rice flour. I'm sure this would work for heartier muffins as well, though I can't guarantee it'd work with risen breads.
  18. I think that description is the most apt. Over time, it becomes easier to avoid those triggers that used to get you craving gluten - both because you've formed a good strong habit, and because you slowly forget the taste. And because you find other things to crave that are safe. If you keep eating gluten, even once a month, not only are you damaging yourself...
  19. It is a very difficult decision. If it helps at all, please realize that antibodies are produced only in response to something the immune system is fighting against. If the body is producing anti-gliandin antibodies, it believes that the gliandin protein is a threat to the body that it wants to be rid of. If you don't ingest gluten, your body will have...
  20. While I find 'food as reward' to be generally a bad thing for me, you can do this even with gluten free food, you just have to find what your gluten free reward is. You wouldn't go eat some arsnic as an indulgence; gluten's the same way. (It only doesn't *seem* that way because everyone around you is eating it and you used to eat it.) Like chocolate? ...
  21. It's just not worth the immune response.
  22. yeah, when I was eating dairy, cascade fresh was one of my favorites. you might also try picking up some kefir.
  23. I think the only one who can answer the question of why you do it is you. I'm sure my psychologist would have lots of good leading questions to help you figure out why you do this (it is a form of self-destructive behavior, they're good at asking questions about that stuff), but I don't remember most of the ones she used for me for other things. Maybe it...
  24. They are manufactured in shared facilities. You may have encountered cross contamination.
  25. There is a margarine out there that's soy/dairy free, but it may only be available around Passover - I know someone on here will know it. As for cheese... yeah, you're kinda outa luck on that, but you can make a pizza without cheese still. You might want to pick up a raw food cookbook - they generally have a number of recipes for substitutes for things...
