  1. heck, if there's someone to sue in this instance, and I don't think there is, sue the supplying company who was not properly disclosing it's process with the oil to McDonalds.
  2. I absolutely agree. A law suit, especially a class-action law suit, is not the way to go about this. McDonald's and their oil supplier may have been more forthcoming and cooperative if they weren't concerned about this very situation.
  3. Comments like these are *never* called for. Assumptions about the boundaries a marriage and people crossing them are not topics for casual conversation. I had something similar said to me when I was looking for support with my vulvar vestibulitis. As you can imagine, for a condition that makes sex painful, we didn't have sex much. Someone on a support...
  4. I had been gluten-free for two weeks before I got the blood tests. The only one that came back above the normal range was the anti-retliculin IgG - not a sure sign at all. But even my doctor agreed - if it makes you feel better do it. She's a doctor, so she also suggested a second data point, and I agreed, so I challenged with gluten a few days later,...
  5. no, but it's actually not *that* uncommon in countries that rely more heavily on rice - particularly the asian countries.
  6. Mission, Trader Joes, and Food for Life's. The later are the tastiest, but hard to find. If you've got the time, make your own - they're infinitely better! :-) (Just masa and water. Masa has lime in it for the processessing, so if you're sensitive to it, it'll still be a problem.)
  7. welcome to the board! I'm glad you found us. :-)
  8. Check out the Culinary Institute in the area. They have a restaurant, and I imagine that chefs in training would be a good choice at making a tasty gluten free meal.
  9. Yep. you can get bagged ginger tea that's just ginger at health food stores (I do this for work, where it isn't as convenient to use fresh ginger) or you can get ginger juice (at Whole Foods, by "The Ginger People") I like it pretty strong, and will use about four or five *very* thin slices off of a piece of ginger in a single mug of water.
  10. Don't forget to make sure you're getting plenty of magnesium. Ideally, it would be half the amount of calcium you're getting. (Studies have show that increased magnesium intake is more important for celiacs than increased calcium supplementation.)
  11. Sensodyne has gluten - according to the company themselves. You may want to try Crest's Sensitive Tooth Toothpaste, it is gluten-free.
  12. Just because they say they test below 20ppm doesn't mean they're saying they do have small amount of gluten. Many of the tests will only return a 'less than a detectable amount' result - and 0 is less than the detectable amount. Despite that, however, I think we've seen enough evidence on the board to know that some people have gotten contaminated stuff...
  13. Ditto what plantime said. I don't believe that wheat is equally bad for all, so I don't have a problem with money being spent on further research into breeding better plants. (Not GMO's, though... I'm not a fan of those at all.) But I also wish they'd invest more money into researching a wider variety of crops, so we're not overly reliant on a few.
  14. I do yoga, which is similar in some ways. I quite enjoy it, and anything that's weight bearing is good for the body.
  15. but they have dairy. :-(
  16. make sure you're getting enough food - and high quality food, not just highly processed rice based carbs out of lots of gluten-free substitutes. and plenty of rest. you're body is in overdrive trying to repair itself right now, and is going to use its energy for itself.
  17. There's not a lot you can do but supportive measures. Rest, easy to digest foods, ginger or mint teas, etc and plenty of water.
  18. I like the dumbstruck look of disbelief, followed by a hearty laugh, completed with the words "Oh, I wish it would pass! Tell my genes, and my intestines that! But nooo... my stupid genetic code has to have an auto-immune response to those pesky wheat proteins. Will pass... Ah... you must be reading my wildest, and most hopeless, fantasies."
  19. You need to be 100% gluten free. Completely and totally. Symptoms vary WIDELY, and if you had a positive biopsy, you've got it. You don't have to live on corn and rice. Take advantage of everything in the produce section (you can make great stir fries with sugar snap peas, carrots, bell peppers, jalapenos, and onions; fabulous salads with spinach, leaf...
  20. Fiber naturally comes in many naturally gluten-free foods. Fruits, vegetables, gluten-free whole grains, and nuts/seeds are all excellent sources of fiber. So put some carrots in the brown and wild rice for dinner, have an orange or berries for dessert, and put some ground flax on your hot gluten-free brown rice cereal for breakfast. :-)
  21. I agree. Every surface he's in contact with at work has a fine coating of (to us) poison on it. It's not helping the situation. That's not to say there isn't something else going on, but this is an issue.
  22. making your own is definitely tastier, and still easy. tomato sauce and italian spices. if you like tomatoes, used a can of diced tomatoes and simmer down to the appropriate consistency for chunky sauce!
  23. yoga. one of the deep breathing techniques that I've used involves counting the breath, but only up to ten, then starting the count over (there's no 'number' to achieve, it's just used as a focus). you can also use a sound to focus on during the breath as well (that's where the chanting of 'om' comes from).
  24. If being celiac, and untreated, left you very underweight, that might be part of the reason. In that case, your period would be expected to return as you put on weight (particularly body fat).
  25. ditto the advice - if you can't call ahead, head before hand and have something small and safe (even if it's only a glass of water). yeah, it's an inconvenience at the best of times, and a horribly PITA other times. but there's not really anything we can do to change it.
