  1. Evie, you're great, I hope your story will help many. Happy Birthday! And I hope there are many more to come.
  2. Happy Birthday to dudy(26), sunshine17(66), angellove839(20), happiestgirl(32)!
  3. Well, unless you want an 'official' diagnosis, what's stopping you from giving it a try? You have nothing to lose in trying a gluten-free diet for a while, to see if it will help. The symptoms you describe could be celiac disease, they also could be a few other things. If you try the gluten-free diet, make sure you eliminate all sources of gluten, meaning...
  4. Julie, anything 'creamy' is suspect. It's risotto, by the way. I have no idea if it was gluten-free or not, and I'm afraid you'll have to just wait and see. For your sake, I hope it was gluten-free!
  5. Oh, no, not another clueless doctor! He is utterly wrong about numbers not changing for some people even when on the diet. If that happens, it means that they aren't really gluten-free, so is significant. There is no such thing as having celiac disease very mild. You either have it, or you don't. Some people get terrible symptoms, and apparently you don...
  6. I can't say for sure, but I've never heard of sugar containing gluten, so you're probably safe (but don't kill me if I'm wrong, please ).
  7. Alison, I can't work with people per se, I get overwhelmed very quickly doing that, and then I stop functioning. But I have started web design courses at our community college in the next city (a 40 minute drive from here) on Wednesday. According to our instructor, I should be able to design websites by December (after the second course). I plan on taking...
  8. Now that really made me laugh, Matilda! Even tough I am sure it wasn't funny at the time, but the image of you sitting on the pit toilet, with your husband holding the flashlight, mosquitoes trying to get you, bears and wolves around (okay, I'm exaggerating) cracks me up.
  9. Thanks again, guys. Karen, maybe I need a Jewish Newfie mother (is there such a person?) By the way, have you tried if you have other intolerances that may be causing the villious atrophy? From everything I read, dairy and soy can cause it, too. I am sure you have, but I just want to make sure nothing is overlooked, I really feel for you (and will be praying...
  10. Yes, I have done it, because I have so many intolerances (and no official diagnosis, just my own dietary tests), I doubted my own diagnosis and did that. I got sick, of course. Another time I got glutened because of my family not caring, and thought, "What the heck, I am glutened already, and nobody cares anyway, I might as well go for it!" And pigged...
  11. I hope this is just what you did before you realized it was gluten? Because, for celiac disease you have to not just cut out wheat, but rye, barley and oats as well. This is a long shot, but for you, and Gary, too, you might get some new insights and possibly even be helped by following the links on lectins and salicylates in my signature, and reading...
  12. The numbness and tingling in your hands suggests neuropathy, which is a common symptom of celiac disease. And yes, chances are that those symptoms will completely go away after a while of being gluten-free. You can do it! You just need to set your mind to it. And coming here and asking your questions was an excellent first step (and shows that really, you...
  13. Maybe that there are other intolerances (besides gluten) that cause an immune response? That would be my first thought.
  14. Hi Ricco, and welcome to this forum! In case you don't know what Aussies and Kiwis are : Aussies are people from Australia, and Kiwis from New Zealand. I also live in Canada, but I am German. By the way, your English is excellent, no need to apologize for it! There are also people here from France, I think somebody is in Japan, one person...
  15. I also get gas, diarrhea, joint pain, brain fog and extreme exhaustion from eggs. When I tested eggs in January (after not eating them for 3 months), I went to bed at 10:00 PM (I was suddenly awfully tired), and didn't wake up until 3:00 PM the next day! I thought the clock must have stopped. Those eggs just put me right out. And I only ate a few bites of...
  16. Don't feel too bad, you didn't know. My chiropractor says, ,Vomiting is not a sign of illness, but proves that your immune system works, by rejecting poison immediately and tossing it'. So, it's a good thing Tori vomited, because hopefully she'll be fine by tomorrow.
  17. Shannon, you really need to be 100% gluten-free, or you're going to make yourself very ill in the long run. The doctor who told you that it's only a wheat allergy didn't know what she was talking about. Your bloodwork clearly shows it's celiac disease, and your original diagnosis was correct. Since celiac disease is genetic, your little one probably has...
  18. I agree, Vincent, don't give Tylenol unless the fever is either extremely high, or his headache gets so bad that he can't tolerate it at all. The fever is what kills the virus, viruses are very heat sensitive. So, bringing the fever down will prolong the illness. The 'fakerade' sounds like a great idea, and is probably healthier than the Gatorade, anyway...
  19. Lori, it is very common for other food intolerances to show up after going gluten-free, as well as the gluten reaction being much stronger. The reason is, that now his intestines are healing, and absorbing nutrients again. Before, his body was so overwhelmed by the gluten, that it didn't appear to react to the other things. Now the other intolerances (which...
  20. Actually, that sounds great. The reason we're so intolerant to wheat is, that they have bred several varieties together, selecting for a high gluten content, to make factory baking more efficient. Bread used to be a lot less 'gluey', due to less gluten. So, if they manage to reverse the process and breed the gluten back out of it, good for them (of course...
  21. Megan, from everything I have read, there is no such thing as a false positive on those blood tests, even though false negatives are very common. If in two weeks gluten-free she has already surpassed her highest weight ever, I think you pretty much have your answer. The high calorie diet wouldn't do any good if her intestines wouldn't absorb any of it...
  22. I wonder if resin contains any glue. I've just read that even industrial strength glue is made from gluten, as it's very sticky (no wonder it gums up our insides).
  23. Just keep in mind that your symptoms could be related to dairy or soy as well. Or gluten, dairy AND soy. Once you've had your biopsy (and I hope that's really soon, so you can try the diet), you ought to go gluten-free, dairy free and soy free for a month, and then try one at a time (two weeks apart to notice delayed reactions) to see which of the three are...
  24. That's what I was thinking. Anyway, your doctor can't put you on anything. If you refuse to do it, what can he do? I hope you're completely gluten-free now! Getting nutrient levels checked is a good idea, really, seeing how you absorb them will also tell you how your bowels are doing.
  25. Hey, Lynne, I love it! What are you talking about, saying that the girls look good, but you don't? You look beautiful to me! Don't take the picture down again, I hope you'll leave it for a long time, it's awfully nice.
