  1. I just want to say thank you so much to each of you that has responded...so helpful to have someone understand! I love this board...so many wonderful people willing to help each other! ??
  2. I really do like my Dr, he's very nice, but he's one of the "Top Doctors" in our city, so it's always a wait. I could see one of the other Drs there but with my Dr anxiety I think it's better to wait. I am very interested in the menopause idea. I am entering that time as well. Unfortunately I recently started a period 17 days after the start of the...
  3. It's funny isn't it how excited Drs get about abnormally low cholesterol? My total was 150 and my Dr thought I was amazing! The crazy thing is that I eat healthier now than I ever have.
  4. Great ideas Ennis...unfortunately I can't do sugar alcohols. They really bother my gut. I do love baking with almond flour, but ended up in the ER with kidney stones last year and have to lower my oxalate intake. Nuts are fairly high in oxalates.
  5. Unfortunately I do have a sweet tooth...that may be what is causing the high LDL. Ugh! I just don't want to deal with this! I wish I could eat oats, but my gut won't let me. My thyroid numbers were pretty good on my most recent check, but I'm getting tested again in a couple of weeks, so we will see. Thanks again!
  6. Thanks Plumbago...really interesting article! I thought the 116 ws pretry good. My Dr did not. I'm dreading this appointment!
  7. Hi Gemini! I agree that it's not bad and it is better than last year! My HDL is 69 and the ratios are good. I have such anxiety about Drs that I kind of freeze. I should have just refused the ultrasound and brought up my ratios, but I froze. Usually I'm just trying to get out of there as quickly as possible. I also agree that the numbers were...
  8. Thanks Posterboy, I am interested in the idea of niacin...I guess it should be done with a Drs guidance. I'm going to read through the links you've included. Thanks again!
  9. Thanks Kitty! I really appreciate the perspective! My B12 was in the 800s last check. Zinc was good too. D was deficient at diagnosis and has been very slowly moving up. It was at 38.3 in July. My Dr wants it over 40 and had me double my dose. I do supplement with chelated magnesium for peripheral neuropathy. I can't supplement with calcium...
  10. I will look at it...thanks Ennis!
  11. Thanks CL! I have just requested the Vertical Auto Profile (VAP) cholesterol test...hopefully that will come with good results. I'm discouraged about this because I eat really well!
  12. Hi all, Before I was diagnosed my cholesterol was always low and my Dr's were so impressed with me! Now, the past 2 physicals it is high according to my Dr. The LDL was 141 last year and 116 this year. This year my Dr ordered an ultrasound of my carotid arteries after seeing the numbers. Because I'm 45 and have high cholesterol he wants to look for...
  13. Hi fbmb! It would be a bit of a drive for you, but I like Dr Baker in Colorado Springs. 2 of his associates specialize in celiac, but when I called to schedule my first appointment I just needed someone and got the Dr with the 1st available appointment. Anyway, he's been great. I really do like him as a Dr. Tessa, if you do start eating out...
  14. Hi Cristiana, I'm so sorry that you are still not feeling well. When do you go back to your Dr? I wish I could help more, but it's so hard to know what was what when I was on the PPI. I was diagnosed with celiac and h. Pylori on the same day so I was already feeling awful. Then I was put on 2 antibiotics with the PPI. I do remember feeling...
  15. Amazing! You should feel very optimistic! It sounds like you are doing everything right...great job!!????
  16. I eat Haagen Dazs with no issues and it is delicious! I know that vanilla, vanilla bean, strawberry and chocolate are all labelled gluten free too. They have these new Trios that look amazing...my husband assures me that they are! They aren't labelled gluten free, although no gluten ingredients. They have so though and I can't have that. I also...
  17. Hi Cristiana, I was on it daily for a month. During that time I learned about acid rebound and was scared to experience it. So when my month was over, I started tapering. I didn't experience any issues coming off. I do hope you start feeling better. Maybe it would be good to stay on a very mild diet for a bit. I have lived on chicken, boiled...
  18. Hi Cristiana, I'm so sorry that you are still having issues! I have been on a PPI once. I was diagnosed with h. Pylori at the same time as celiac, so my gut was a complete wreck! I was put on 2 antibiotics, a PPI and Pepto. I had read about acid rebound and decided to taper when it was time to come off. I went from taking it daily to 1 every...
  19. Hi Cristiana, I'm so sorry that you are not feeling well. (((Hugs))) I definitely had that before diagnosis and for some time after, which makes me wonder if you've been glutened. Do you keep a food diary? If so, have you checked the day or 2 before this started to see if anything stands out as the culprit? It could also be a virus. It...
  20. Hi Mnburis! I have been keeping a food/symptom diary for about 3 years and have found it to be amazingly helpful! It has helped me determine things that were bothering me on a few occasions already. I brought it to a nutritionist at one point and she did look at it, which was helpful as well. I hope that your Dr will take the time to and that continuing...
  21. Hi Victoria! You are definitely hypothyroid. I'm so glad that you pushed and that your doctor listened! She is most likely starting you on levothyroxine which is a T4 replacement. Checking bloodwork again in 6-8 weeks is standard. Your Free T3 is 30% of the range and your Free T4 is 23% of the range. No wonder you feel bad! Optimally you want...
  22. I totally get it. I hate going to Dr's...it gives me so much anxiety. I've never found a functional medicine Dr where I live that takes insurance, so I can't help there. I know that you can order your own thyroid labs online through stopthethyroidmadness. They do a full panel, it's reasonable priced. You could always try that. Hopefully your tests come...
  23. I completely agree with Gemini! I can't understand her unwillingness to test for Hashis...makes no sense. Also, hopefully she tested Free T4 and not total T4 as that's the only one that matters. If she did Free T4, when you get your result, check to see where it is in the range. If it's below 50% of the range, along with your high in the range TSH, insist...
  24. Hi Victoria! Gemini is right, you need a full thyroid panel in order to really see what is going on with your thyroid. The remaining tests are Free T3, Free T4, TpoAb and TgAb. The last 2 are antibody tests. Ideally, your TSH will be around 1 and the Free #'s will be in 50-75% of the range. I feel terrible with a TSH where yours is. Mine is...
  25. I had the same issue after diagnosis. I also wasn't thin at diagnosis. I lost 30 pounds very quickly.. it was kind of scary. Then I took a look at what I was eating and like you, realized I was short on calories daily. Eating good fats really helped me. Nuts and seed butters are a great source of calories. Olive oil, butter and coconut oil are...
