ARCHIVED Probiotic Help
icelandgirl replied to Momfor2bs's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Mom...I take Florajen 3. It has worked really well for me. It is kept refrigerated. I have a hard time finding it where I live so I usually have to order it. -
Totally agree Cristiana!

Hi Matt, Since celiac impacts the whole body...I think kidneys are affected. I have kidney stones and they are super fun(not) and my urologist says that it's fairly common with celiac and malabsorption. I don't know specifically about kidney disease, but when I was in the hospital passing my stones...prior to passing, my GFR was around 60. A few weeks...

Hang in there SLLRUNNER...it is hard and frustrating. Good job getting that appointment moved up. I've done too...I've called daily looking for cancellations. I can also remember counting down the days until my appointment. ((((Hugs)))) and please let us know how it goes. -
ARCHIVED Gluten does WHAT to the brain?
icelandgirl replied to Gemini's topic in Publications & Publicity
I get so frustrated! My friend's mom is 67...there has to be a reason for this. And all she says is, they have no idea how she can be in end stage liver disease! Anyway, I'm doing ok. I got cc'd on vacation which stunk. I had forgotten how terrible it feels. Ugh! The good news is that my vitamin D level is finally moving up...not inching. It... -
ARCHIVED Gluten does WHAT to the brain?
icelandgirl replied to Gemini's topic in Publications & Publicity
Gemini...I'm so sorry about your brother. (((Hugs))) It's just awful...I too have relatives that I believe have celiac. One uncle is deteriorating...and in and out of the hospital. He hasn't been tested for celiac and no one wants to hear it. I also have a friend whose mom has been diagnosed with early onset alzheimers and end stage kidney... -
ARCHIVED Peripheral Neuropathy question
icelandgirl replied to RMJ's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi RMJ...I'm so glad that your spine is fine...that's great news! Think abouthat trying magnesium? It has helped my super annoying tingling so much. Thanks for letting us know. -
Oh goodness...I'm sorry. ((((((HUGS)))))) I really feel for you and hope that you feel better soon. It is dreadful having it happen and so hard when you don't know what got you. I second Gemini in saying do keep taking a probiotic...I really do think it helps. Take good care of yourself...rest when you can. Hope you are back to feeling good...

ARCHIVED Peripheral Neuropathy question
icelandgirl replied to RMJ's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi RMJ, I too have had peripheral neuropathy...particularly bad in my feet, but in my fingers at times too. And I had high-ish B12, so it wasn't that. I do have Hashimotos so was going to suggest thyroid first...let us know how those tests come out. Hopefully your Dr did a full thyroid panel. I have noticed that mine gets worse when I'm hypo. ... -
ARCHIVED 1 year of hell...Celiac?
icelandgirl replied to SillyWilly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Willy, Since you are getting blood work done tomorrow, why not ask your Dr to add the celiac panel to the list of tests? Your GP should be able to order the blood tests for you rather than waiting until your GI appointment. Just a thought...I wish you all the best. -
ARCHIVED First glutening or something else?
icelandgirl replied to kam00096's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Kam, I'm sorry that you are feeling awful. (((((HUGS))))) For me it takes about 24 hours for gluten symptoms to hit. I've found that it really helps to keep a food diary...I have about 2 years worth now. Lol. I write down everything I eat each meal and I've been able to use that to figure out other things that bother me. Just for reference... -
Get your affairs in order
icelandgirl replied to bartfull's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thank you so much for letting us know. ((((((Hugs)))))) Alison has been on my mind a lot lately. It's amazing how much you can miss someone you've never met...but she was an exceptional person who had a positive impact on everyone. She was kind and wise...I'll always miss her presence. I am thankful that she is no longer in pain and that she... -
ARCHIVED Back at it
icelandgirl replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Scotty, I'm so sorry to hear that you are not doing well. As far as the thyroid goes, have you had free T3 and Free T4 tested? Those give a much better picture of your thyroid function than TSH. Have you had antibodies tested? As another celiac with thyroid issues, I've come to realize that if the thyroid is off, nothing else works right. ... -
ARCHIVED Sick on vacation...so frustrated!
icelandgirl replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks cyclinglady...the RV sounds great and safe! I'm fairly sure that this is gluten...but I'm just hoping that it isn't weeks to get better like last time. I'm eating super simple...baked a piece of chicken and roasted potato and zucchini for dinner. I'll keep doing that and drinking water. It's the worst being on vacation and wishing you could go... -
ARCHIVED Sick on vacation...so frustrated!
icelandgirl replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you all so much! I don't eat out ever because I got sick last summer. I do the same as you, cyclinglady, I order coffee. I ate out once, at a gluten free bakery...but I was starting to have issues already...so something from the day before. I've cooked everything myself...now I'm thinking I've gotten cc'd somehow in the kitchen of this condo. My... -
Yes, this will be a complaining thread. I apologize in advance. I'm on vacation and I've been glutened. I have no idea by what, but I'm so frustrated that I just want to cry. My husband works super hard for us. I'm a stay at home mom of 3. Every paycheck for the past year we've been putting some money aside to take everyone to the beach. Starting...

ARCHIVED Gut healed & starving
icelandgirl replied to manasota's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Manasota and (((hugs)))...I remember having a feeling of an inflated balloon inside of me. It drove me crazy and nothing helped. Walking, yoga...nothing. at that point I looked into what things cause bloating...I cut out all foods that did. It helped some. Then I looked into additives that cause bloating and found 2 things that I was ingesting every...- 2 replies

A good diet for avoiding type 2 diabetes
icelandgirl replied to cristiana's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Cristiana, Good for you to get it checked out! That was smart. 2 paleo websites that I like and have cooked from are ElanasPantry and AgainstAll Grain. Both have some yummy recipes. Just made one for dinner last night. I won't add any other info as it sounds like you've got lots to read already! I hope you get something figured out that... -
ARCHIVED Favorite Hamburger Buns?
icelandgirl replied to Newly Diagnosed's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi there...this is a tough thing to find! My favorite right now is from Outside the Breadbox, they're local for me, but I think can be ordered. I found Canyon Bakehouse to be pretty good. I'm getting ready to try Three Bakers too. I do lettuce wraps also because I do enjoy them. -
ARCHIVED Test Results
icelandgirl replied to SLLRunner's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi SLLRunner, As others have said, TSH tells only a part of the thyroid story. My mom's was always in the normal range, but when she finally pushed for further testing she had really high antibodies. Since thyroid issues so often go hand in hand with celiac, it would probably be good to get a full thyroid panel to include: TSH, Free T3, Free T4, TPOAb... -

ARCHIVED I have kidney stones...spent last night at the ER
icelandgirl replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hey ArtG, I saw the urologist today...unfortunately for me they can still see my stones on an xray. Sigh. The largest is 3x6 in my right kidney. He does not believe I can pass this one on my own. All of my bloodwork came back fine. Nothing alarming in the urinalysis either. His recommendations...keep drinking tons of water. I had 4....
