ARCHIVED Help! Even Floradix Hurts Now!
icelandgirl replied to cristiana's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Oh I'm sorry Cristiana. ((((Hugs)))) Maybe adding in more iron rich foods would do the trick with less digestive trouble. Kareng has attached a list...hope that will help. I know that dark chocolate is a yummy source that I do indulge in. Even rice Chex has a pretty good amount. I hope you feel better friend. -
ARCHIVED ANA tests - different results
icelandgirl replied to LookingforAnswers15's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Looking, They increased my thyroid medication and that did it. With a TSH that high I would say your friend is hypothyroid and likely needs thyroid replacement medications. She should definitely talk to her Dr about that. -
ARCHIVED I got WELL!!
icelandgirl replied to manasota's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I feel much better on brand name Levoxyl than I did on generic...so maybe try going back. I really think that Dr's don't know enough. All I was told was, "just stop eating gluten and you'll feel better." And then after 6 months of not feeling better, " I don't understand why you don't feel better. Most people feel better as soon as they stop eating...- 26 replies

ARCHIVED I got WELL!!
icelandgirl replied to manasota's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You're very welcome. For thyroid you should definitely have TSH, Free T3 and Free T4...not total on those last 2, the free values tell what's available for your body to use. Also I would do TPOAB and TgAb...you could have Hashimotos as well. Make sure they give you your actual results, not just you're thyroid is fine. Most people feel best with their...- 26 replies

ARCHIVED I got WELL!!
icelandgirl replied to manasota's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Manasota, I'm sorry to hear of your ongoing struggles... (((hugs))). I was diagnosed almost 2 years ago and I would say that although I'm not where I'd like to be, so much has improved. Have you had your thyroid fully tested, not just TSH? I say that because many of us on the board have thyroid issues as well. I found that getting my thyroid...- 26 replies

ARCHIVED ANA tests - different results
icelandgirl replied to LookingforAnswers15's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gemini and Nicole are the best! They know more than most Dr's and I consult them on my thyroid issues as well! Most Dr's will only test TSH for thyroid. It has a large "acceptable" range of .45-4.5. I feel awful unless mine is close to 1, but my previous Dr told me I was fine when it was 4.65, even though I felt awful. The other tests you need are... -
ARCHIVED Is There Gluten In Levothyroxin?
icelandgirl replied to txplowgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You would definitely want to check with the manufacturer. Each one uses different fillers. When are you scheduled to have your levels rechecked? It should be 6-8 weeks after starting the med. What dose did they start you on? It can take some time to get the thyroid levels dialed in correctly. It definitely takes a lot of patience. I hope you feel... -
ARCHIVED ANA tests - different results
icelandgirl replied to LookingforAnswers15's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I replied to this already and it disappeared....so if it somehow shows up again and I double post, I'm sorry. Anyway...happy new year to you! I have no knowledge of ANA, but I completely agree with Gemini on vitamin D. I'm almost 2 years since diagnosis and have been supplementing with D the whole time. I just had my levels rechecked and they... -
ARCHIVED Merry Christms!
icelandgirl replied to bartfull's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Sounds delicious!! Merry Christmas to all and many thanks for all of the support this year! -
It does take some adjustment! And being at high altitide is an additional challenge. What flour did you use? I've had good luck using Better Batter flour as a 1 for 1 substitute for all purpose flour. I've also made ElanasPantry chocolate chip cookies using the Honeyville almond flour and they turned out great.
-
Here is the response from Honeyville...based on this I will continge to use their flour. I've not had any issues with it... Thank you for contacting us. I apologize that we did not get back to you on this. As of right now, our almond flour is certified gluten free. There was one batch that was used in equipment that had processed wheat, those are the...

ARCHIVED My Heart (and Belly) are Full - Denver
icelandgirl replied to anyana's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yum! Thank you for sharing...I will.have to try it! -
Hi anyana, I'm in Colorado too! Anyway...I have the Honeyville blanched almond flour and it doesn't have that warning on the label. I wonder if something has changed. I've emailed them to see and will let you know what I hear. If they are manufacturing on shared equipment I won't be using it and I'll need to find another almond flour.

ARCHIVED Probiotic - Which is the Best?
icelandgirl replied to anyana's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi anyana, I take Florajen 3 and really like it. It's not stored in the shelves at the store, rather in the pharmacy in a refrigerator. It's the best one I've used for sure. If you go to their websites you can find a store that sells it in your area. Welcome to the board! I hope that you will stick around! -
ARCHIVED Blew It On Thanksgiving
icelandgirl replied to StClair's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The last time I was glutened it took 3 weeks to feel back to normal with the 1st week being the worst...like having the worst flu ever and constant bathroom trips, etc. That was about 6 months ago. I just got hit again...this time I've no idea how or why? The only thing I can think of is my 4 year old and preschool. They do play doh and eat gluten... -

ARCHIVED Food Social Relatives
icelandgirl replied to Vasiliki's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gosh I don't know. I have the same issue. We went to my mom's for Thanksgiving and although I'm sure she did her best, the chicken broth she used in the turkey and gravy was not gluten free. I also saw her sampling the potatoes and stuff and resampling and asked what she had eaten prior...an English muffin. I ended up only eating what I brought which... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Nuts
icelandgirl replied to gilligan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Planters cashews...well eat them all the time is a better way to say it...anyway no issues with them. -
ARCHIVED Numbness, Tingling in limbs & Joint Aches
icelandgirl replied to Ender's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Completely agree with cycling...email the Dr's office a list of the thyroid test before going...that way it's in there and you don't have to remember to ask about it. -
ARCHIVED Wrinkled fingertips, swollen thumb, hair loss...weird stuff
icelandgirl replied to Stacy0w's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Stacy, I'm sorry to hear about your ongoing problems. The hair falling out at your temples sounds thyroid related to me. You said thyroid results were normal. Do you know which tests you had done? A lot of Dr's will only test TSH and that doesn't give a full picture of your thyroid health. Have you been tested for Hashimotos? Here is a full... -
ARCHIVED genetic tests
icelandgirl replied to CherylS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Cheryl, Im sorry that you feel snubbed... (hugs). This board has been quiet lately for sure. I don't know why...holidays? But I don't think you've said anything offensive. Would your GI be willing to run the remaining celiac tests? That would be less expensive than the endoscopy. I didn't have any genetic testing done so I can't answer anything...
