ARCHIVED Gluten Ataxia confusion...
Jmg replied to Mermaid's Mom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your daughter could have non celiac gluten sensitivity. That would correspond to negative celiac tests coupled with positive reaction to the gluten free diet. Whilst there are similarities to celiac presentation it appears that neuro symptoms are more common in ncgs patients. That seems to be the case for me anyway! The condition is as yet poorly understood... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy and Food
Jmg replied to dalek100's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The gi may be able to see some signs of celiac visually but the chances are you will have to wait a couple of weeks for the biopsies before there's any confirmation. The damage to the villi is too small to detect with naked eye I think. as long as your eating some gluten each day you will have done all you can for a diagnosis. Not long now so go ahead... -
ARCHIVED Horrific alcohol reaction
Jmg replied to Stephanie kate's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Steph and welcome I'm yet another Brit, funny how the alcohol threads flush us out I don't drink now but after a big night I used to get truly savage all day hangovers, much worse than those of my friends. They could include splitting headaches, vomiting, nausea, a 'fuzziness' in my head, sweats etc. After I put the pieces together and went... -

Jmg replied to jenhutch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Call your doctor's office and ask them to relay your request to the doctor to amend the test request, they should be able to sort it without an additional meeting and delay. Worth a try anyway I think the Biocard tests TTG IGA and it may give you an indication. Do post your results here as I'm sure others will be interested in its effectiveness. If... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy and Food
Jmg replied to dalek100's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes the first has wheat gluten in the ingredients, the second via the wheat flour. Here in the UK manufacturers HAVE to highlight gluten sources. Check the ingredients and if WHEAT, BARLEY, or RYE are mentioned *usually highlighted, italicised or underlined, then you will know there's gluten. Most of iceland's processed foods will probably be gluten... -
ARCHIVED Post Gluten Challenge
Jmg replied to *Allie*'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Allie and welcome First off, I know 3 years was a long wait, but at 17 you've figured out celiac way before many people do. That should make a big impact on minimising its effects and helping you with the diet, so, bizarrely enough, congratulations! A lot of good advice has been brought together in this thread: Don't worry that your...- 3 replies

ARCHIVED Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity - a resource
Jmg posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wanted to collect some of the info on NCGI in one place so that visitors who test negative but may still have an issue with gluten can be directed there. I'll add to this post as I find new links, but feel free to add or contribute anything you think may be of use! Matt --- Useful links: An overview from Alessio Fasano, one of...- 3 replies

ARCHIVED Blood Test ?
Jmg replied to Scuff's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's a very normal reaction believe it or not. I would always tell someone to stay on gluten before testing is done because it's a lot easier staying on it than it is reintroducing it. I felt worse on my challenge than I had before giving it up the first time. Whilst a definite diagnosis is the aim of many (I tried myself) and has benefits in terms... -
ARCHIVED Looking for advice
Jmg replied to jenhutch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
7Hi jen and welcome No-one can diagnose remotely via nterwe posts but if there was such a game as celiac / gluten sensitive bingo, I would be calling 'House!' having read your account above... Lots of things fit the pattern as I'm sure your lurking has revealed. It's a tricky condition to diagnose however so you may have a little wait before you... -
ARCHIVED Overwhelmed by This Possibility
Jmg replied to GalaxyDuster's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
and once that's happened if results are negative please do properly trial the gluten free diet regardless. So much of what you've posted suggests you're on the right track with this, results notwithstanding. Good luck! -
ARCHIVED Traveling with food allergies in Latin America in 2016
Jmg replied to orid's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thank you for posting this I've never been to South America, it's the only continent, bar the poles, I've yet to visit. It's really nice to read that my gluten sensitivity hasn't ruled it out. Maybe I'll get to the land of Luis Suarez yet! -
ARCHIVED Confused by my blood panel results
Jmg replied to rachelliz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Obviously from the outside it's difficult to comment, but if I were you I'd leave allergies for now and pursue definitive celiac testing via your doctor and preferably a gastroenterologist. They're the first port of call for digestion issues. If you do wind up being celiac it's possible that other allergies or intolerances would resolve or improve in any... -
Thank you ps, it may be better if the thread title was changed as we now have two 'overwhelmed' topics. If it were 'Bile ducts and celiac?' then it may attract more users with direct experience?

ARCHIVED Blood Test ?
Jmg replied to Scuff's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello and welcome Maybe? From reading others accounts there's a big variation in how quickly gluten antibodies respond to the gluten diet. I did similar to you and my doctor said that 1 week back on should be enough to show up in a test, but he didn't know what he was talking about sadly... The 2 week figure refers to the endoscopy, for... -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac Further Advice
Jmg replied to dalek100's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From what I've read 2 slices a day should be enough for the challenge. I think they'll have more gluten than the milky way's. Now I want a milky way Have one for me tomorrow dalek100! -

Jmg replied to TheBugsMomma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED Celiac disease diagnosis
Jmg replied to Lochella's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome too! Sorry to hear you're suffering now. If you can nail the diet you should improve. You should also think about vitamin supplements. There's a good chance that you're suffering from one or more deficiencies as a result of the affects of celiac on your intestine's capacity to draw nutrients from your food. A good multi vitamin is a must, just... -
ARCHIVED low blood sugar
Jmg replied to stacieb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Stacie, Sorry you're not feeling good. I found I was a bit up and down in my first months gluten free. I'd had blood sugar issues before, they've largely improved since my diet change but it hasn't made me immune to them. The single best thing I did was change my breakfasts, increasing protein and fat and reducing carbs. That kept my blood sugar... -

ARCHIVED Celiac disease diagnosis
Jmg replied to Lochella's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome Lochella Hopefully you can draw some comfort from finally having an answer and thus starting the path to good health. Healing is going to come from your own body as you progress on the gluten free diet and it stops fighting itself and starts repairing that damage. You're still in the very early days and it's not an instant process sadly. 6 months... -

ARCHIVED News: Celiac.com: Gluten-free diets may be linked to type 2 diabetes
Jmg replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
I guess they've never felt the political pressure the mainstream cereal producers were under in the age of rickets and pellagra? Plus there's not such a competitive market and its a cost manufacturers would sooner do without if they can, although if Udi's or Genius did start perhaps they'd get more business. I think I'll start eating flax seed again... -
ARCHIVED Very confused by test results
Jmg replied to CaroCaroCaro's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good for you! One suggestion, if you run into another reaction like your Endo, try and ask a question which puts the burden of proof on them, ie: 'Given the positive blood test, on what clinical basis are you excluding celiac?' At least it forces them to be more precise and perhaps exposes any flaws in their reasoning. Although if you reach that stage with...
