ARCHIVED Can Gluten Harm The Colon Too?
Rusla replied to sspitzer5's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, it can. I know someone who ended up with colon cancer from Celiac and now he has to have all his waste drained into a bag for the rest of his life. -
ARCHIVED celiac disease Is Big Time News!
Rusla replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Publications & Publicity
The parents should be charged with child endangerment or attempted murder, maybe even Munchausens by Proxy. They kept taking her there and feeding her greasy non nutritious food that made her sick. Now, as the McD site says their fries "May contain Wheat or Dairy derivatives." That should be enough to make anyone with wheat and dairy problems stand clear... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Friendly Restaurants In Canada
Rusla replied to Carriefaith's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I wish I could move to Van. My sister lives there and she said I would have no problems finding food there as there are tons of places to get food and restaurants that serve gluten free. -
ARCHIVED "red Robin" In Exton Pa--outstanding Resturant Experience
Rusla replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Judy, I am so thrilled for you that you had such a great experience. We used to have a Red Robin here but no more. It is so nice to find a place that not only knows what Celiac is but goes out of their way to help those with dietary concerns. I think that manager deserves a big kiss. -

I have had no success with Moxies in Calgary, they actually looked at me like I had three heads. -
ARCHIVED New Here... Just Saying Hello
Rusla replied to Sagesmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Sage, welcome to the board. Actually there is lots of things you can still eat as long as you don't do prepackaged food and tons of breads. It doesn't have to be expensive but it will be a lot healthier for everyone and easier if you are all gluten-free. It will be tougher on your son in regards to school and such. But there is tons of support on here... -
ARCHIVED Cipro
Rusla replied to GlutenFreeAl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have any allergies to Penicillian don't take it. I was given Cipro and thought my life was going to end. I had taken an antihistamine with it, for a different reason and it was a good thing I did. I woke up two hours after taking it, I was in a cold sweat and could not move any part of my body for 5 hours. I could not even yell for help and my... -
ARCHIVED Am I The Only One Who Feels This Way?
Rusla replied to glutenfreeheather's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have had a lot worse things than this in my life and maybe, I have had them to set me up to handle this. They could have all be prep for this disease. At least that is how I think of it because actually for me personally managing this so far has been relatively easy. Who knows, maybe tomorrow I will fall apart at the seams. But this is nothing compared... -
Happy gluten-free day to you.

ARCHIVED New Mcd Statement -- Fries Are gluten-free
Rusla replied to lovegrov's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I guess the question we should be asking is what kind of gluten-free. It could be corn gluten-free, fish gluten-free etc. It said it has wheat and dairy derivatives and that in itself is enough of a red flag to get me to avoid it, not that I ever went to McD's before. -
Not always. I know some who just get a rash in traditional areas, some who get it in non traditional areas and my DH always comes out on my face first as blisters and sometimes up by my nose in a red raised itchy burny rash. Then sometimes after that it will go for the traditional areas.

ARCHIVED New Mcd Statement -- Fries Are gluten-free
Rusla replied to lovegrov's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Here is the problem. All these so called wishy washy experts feeding them misinformation. Now the ones who should be sued are the experts. Do we see people suing them or doctors for giving out the truly stupid and wrong information that they do? No, we don't by the same token no one is suing the people who were feeding their children stuff that makes them... -
I was discussing this with another fellow and we had both commented on the ridiculousness of the law suits. He said his wife had loved milk and now no longer can drink it because she gets violently ill from it. These lawsuits on McDonalds are the same as if he tries to sue the farmer or the cow because his wife can no longer drink milk. I am going to play...

ARCHIVED Went To The Gastroenterologist And Now Im Confused And Embarrassed
Rusla replied to jodikris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Jodikris, the doctor is a knob. Not all Celiac's have DH but ONLT Celiacs have DH. The dermatologist thought I was too fat to be Celiac and I made him do a skin biopsy for DH. Big surprise on him, it was DH making me a Celiac and since then I have lost 30 lbs. This is in less than three months. Don't eat a biscuit because having DH you are a Celiac and... -

ARCHIVED Why Mcdonalds Sucks
Rusla replied to ErraticBinxie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have worked in restaurants where the owner made food with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth. After I lectured her on it, I was of course fired. I also worked in a place where if a burger or something fell on the floor the owner said to pick it up and put it on the grill, that will kill the germs. I informed him that it would not and did he like eating... -
ARCHIVED celiac disease Is Big Time News!
Rusla replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Publications & Publicity
I so agree with you Richard. McD's is NOT food, not really or in my books. Since the onslaught of fast foods families rarely sit down to eat together. Fast foods are fast but not especially food. It is bad for your health, deep fried and causing heart attacks and gall bladder problems. Add a whole bundle of calories and tv and you have a very unhealthy life... -
ARCHIVED celiac disease Is Big Time News!
Rusla replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Publications & Publicity
I don't believe anyone is being hateful on here. The point is we are seeing where this will take the disease and it will make it more difficult for all of us. I find it tacky that they think we are not good enough to talk to other than when they want support to sue someone. These people were aware of the disease with their daughter but continued to feed them... -
ARCHIVED Mi-del's
Rusla replied to GlutenFreeAl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have tried mi dels, don't like them, felt queasy aftter eating them so, I won't buy them again. However, I am not going to sue them. -
All these greedy jerks wanting to sue everyone for every thing is going to come down to one thing. Everyone who buys anything at a grocery store or restaurant is going to end up signing waivers stating if they get sick that the place is not responsible. If I ran a restuarant in light of what is now taking place, I would now close my doors or make everyone...

The thing is I think one would have to be able to prove that MacDonald's not only intentionally but maliciously hid the information from people. They were only going by what the manufacturer told them and they were obviously given bad information about gluten. Not everyone is well informed on Celiac disease. Let's face it there are tons of doctors out there...

ARCHIVED What If You Don't Go Gluten Free
Rusla replied to jodikris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
jodikris...for your roux use cornstarch. It has 10x the expansion of flour and is great in gravies, sauces etc., and of course is not harmful to us. -
Welcome to the board Sarah you will find lots of good information and recipes on this site.
