ARCHIVED Help Me Figure This Out Please
SMRI replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Burning abdominal pain is something that you should go see your Dr. about. It's been 10 days. I would get an appointment today. Maybe they have early hours or late hours that you can get in and still work. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
SMRI replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Everyone that has health insurance is "on an ACA policy"..ACA is legislation, not an insurance policy. I understand it very well, thanks. I'm sorry that you can't open up and read the correct information and learn about the policies vs just passing along more misinformation. It helps no one. Pricing policies is a very sophisticated and complicated process... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free French Fried Onions
SMRI replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found some of the Pacific Cream of Mushroom soup yesterday. I am going to make some of the GB casserole and see how it tastes before the holiday. I did realize when I got home that I forgot to get Green Beans so I have to run to the store again LOL. -
ARCHIVED Do You Risk Eating Meat That Says "shared Equipment"?
SMRI replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
"Gluten" was simply replying to notme! and his/her saying that "gluten" has to be labeled..... No, we don't know what is on the lines or why the labeled "processed on shared equipment" but I still won't buy it. First, there are other products that you can buy that are safe and for companies that are more interested in covering themselves vs doing... -
ARCHIVED Do You Risk Eating Meat That Says "shared Equipment"?
SMRI replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Shared facility and shared equipment are not the same thing but, no, I would not eat it either way. I was glutened by something that was processed in a "shared facility" and I'm just not taking that chance any longer. No, I haven't been in the plant but since the company labeled the package as "processed on the same equipment" I don't need to go to know... -
ARCHIVED To Fry Or Not To Fry, That Is The Question ? Turkey, That Is.
SMRI replied to GFinDC's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Biggest downsides--the oil is expensive...then what do you do with it when the turkey is done? -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
SMRI replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
He could buy a plan that pays 100% for everything if he wanted, the premiums are outrageous for that, but he could. Everyone's definition of "outrageous" is different however. Some people thing a $20 co-pay is outrageous. His rates are exactly the same as a "healthy" 28 year old--and the plans a healthy 28 year old can buy are exactly the same plans your... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
SMRI replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The president does not offer health insurance. If he is looking through plans on the exchange, that is simply a shopping mall for health insurance plans. Without specifics it's hard to answer this but what kind of plan did he buy? Did he apply for subsidies? What else is he spending his money on? Too many variables to say that his insurance is... -
ARCHIVED Do You Risk Eating Meat That Says "shared Equipment"?
SMRI replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do you know that for sure? Have you been to the plant? Can you confirm that the machines do not process gluten in some way? The package says produced on a "shared line"--yes, it might be a CYA, but do you have evidence that it is not?...not to mention the "broth" that many "plain" chicken is packaged with that is NOT gluten-free, which might be the culprit... -
Kraft Zesty Italian Dressing
SMRI replied to Forced Downtime's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
People claim Kraft is good at labeling but.... I used to use the Zesty Italian all the time. When I was first diagnosed I switched to Wish Bone Italian because I couldn't tell if the Kraft stuff was gluten-free or not. I've since found I like the Wish Bone MUCH better . Yes, I know this is from 2008, but since it's been pulled up.... -
ARCHIVED Does This Need To Be Thrown Away?
SMRI replied to MPE4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree, washing them is fine. If they were beat up and scratched deeply, I'd toss them but as long as they are in good shape, just washing them well is fine. People tend to go a bit overboard with getting rid of dishes, etc. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
SMRI replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please show me exactly where it says that in the law. The law in fact says exactly OPPOSITE of what you are claiming. I HAVE read the law, I deal with this day in and day out for my job. What you are saying is illegal and not true. They can not charge someone with a preexisting condition more than someone else, end of story. You are confusing subsidies... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
SMRI replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry, but they can not rate him, period, end of story. It is illegal and if they are you need to report them to the state insurance commissioner. His diabetes supplies should be covered under any plan that is not grandfathered....not sure where he is trying to get insurance... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
SMRI replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nothing you have said is even remotely close to true. Smokers can be charged a higher rate, that is it. The law precludes insurers from charging more for pre-existing conditions. The exchanges are simply a "shopping mall" for health insurance plans. -
I vote for the donuts. I miss donuts. My husband bought a donuts when we were out shopping today, brat!

ARCHIVED Go Picnics At Target
SMRI replied to africanqueen99's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I picked up 3 of them today. They only had 5 varieties so not much to choose from. They will be handy to keep in the car for times when I either forget to bring something or have to run out quick and don't have time to make something. -
Celiac is NOT a wheat allergy. Calling it a wheat allergy is like calling a pimple Ebola. They are not even close to the same thing. It sounds like you need a new doctor. You are 100%, totally and completely wrong and so is your "doctor".... Celiac is an autoimmune disorder, like Lupus, Diabetes, etc. It has NOTHING to do with wheat allergies. It causes...

That is good to know. I'm going to try that on my rash and see if it helps. I was looking for cortisone cream in the house when my rash appeared last week and I didn't have any....I do have some Orajel and oddly was thinking I should put that on there--mainly because I thought it would just numb the spot . I've been known to put Burt Bee's on my rash on...

When you click on your photos, it shows your hand photo in an ad for a Christmas card LOL. Your rash looks very similar to one I get. I've always attributed it to dry skin, not wearing rubber gloves when I do dishes, that kind of thing. I have two spots on my hand that are almost always present now, to varying degrees of itchiness/pain. Before I had...

I second the "dang"....I have a couple recipes that are otherwise gluten-free that need cornflakes LOL -
ARCHIVED Food Labels/ingredients
SMRI replied to nme23's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There are other gluten-free broths out there (beef). I have some gluten-free Swanson's beef STOCK, not broth. You can always make your own if you suspect that is the cause. It's not difficult. Natures' Kitchen (I think that is the name) is pretty easy to find in most grocery stores, especially during the holiday season. -
ARCHIVED Do You Risk Eating Meat That Says "shared Equipment"?
SMRI replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't eat anything on "shared equipment". This is one of those confusing things that people post here. People say "shared equipment" is ok because they "clean" but then say to toss all of your baking pans because they could have microscopic particles left on them, even after cleaning. It can't be both.... It's just not worth the risk I think. What... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
SMRI replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Health insurance? It won't affect your premiums at all, nor will any other disease or condition. -
ARCHIVED To Test Or Not To Test!
SMRI replied to Brinutbutter's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The benefit of the tests is knowing one way or another. Problem is, you have to go back on gluten to have accurate results. Being you have not really been off gluten for that long, you probably will be ok to start eating it again for a week or two. If it's not Celiac, then going gluten-free isn't the answer. I would suggest getting to a clinic like Mayo... -
ARCHIVED 3 Yr Old - Endoscopy
SMRI replied to peppyking's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
With blood work numbers that high, she probably doesn't even need the biopsy. The genetic tests are moot at this point. She has Celiac, no question, so she has some genetic markers for it. Everyone else in the family should be tested as well. Just know that even if the biopsy comes back "negative" she is still Celiac. If they did not take enough samples...
