  1. I believe gluten can hide in the tiny scratches in the plastic. To be safe, I got rid of mine and started over--with mostly Gladware--it's inexpensive and comes in lots of different sizes.

Yes, most of my old storage containers also had the tomotoe stains, but they also had little "blister" pock marks and scratches...I think that would be tough to clean out.

  2. I'm also exploring the adrenal fatigue thing...I too don't ever feel rested even when I DO sleep...this week haven't been able to sleep at all which is just making it worse. Fortunately I have a new group of doctors who really want to get to the bottom of things (they DO think it may be adrenal though).

  3. I've had a rough week. It's like I went from chronic D living in the evil vortex to chronic C and it's killing me. Yesterday was 10 days! I finally "did something" about it. When I get that constipated, my joints kill and I just feel like my body is full of toxic waste. I don't get it!

Have also been super irritable lately (not with you guys  ) but the littlest things set me off. Teaching full-time is knocking the wind out of my sails. I love the students but hate the commute and the ridiculous amount of correcting. Also having a hard time sleeping :(:(

Anyway, hoping to get some rest this weekend. It's our 2 year anniversary so a friend lent us her house in VT (uhmm... wish I had spare houses to lend :P ) so we are going up there for a little R &R. Hopefully that will help!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!!! The time in VT sounds wonderful. I went on a week long hiking trip in VT a few years ago and LOVED LOVED LOVED it. Wouldn't mind living there, lol. Seems like a great place to kick back and relax.

Wow, sorry you've had such a bad week and WOW on the 10 days...I can't even imagine what that is like. Fortunately mine only lasts 2 days usually (it did once go 5).

You and me both on the not sleeping thise week. I am so exhausted but can't sleep...what's up with that for both of us!?

  4. I shop at Whole Foods...I don't buy a LOT of gluten-free products because I'm trying NOT to eat a lot of processed foods of ANY kind, lol, but I do ocassionally indulge in a chocolate bumble bar if I can find one, or a bit of gluten/casein free chocolate. Whole Foods has the best selection of that type of thing and of organic meats and veggies and such. I'm trying to stay organic as much as possible so have resigned myself to the fact that I will just have to spend more to get it. :(

  5. x!!!!!!!

Hi Laura! Don't worry about it...just a quick hello is great! Take care of yourself first and post when you can, but don't wear yourself out! Although, we WILL worry about you if we don't hear a quick hello from time to time, lol.

I've heard that Kirkman labs is good at handling allergies & vitamins. They make a calcium powder. Might be worth checking out. www.kirkmanlabs.com

Oh V!!! I just love all your links! Thanks!!!! :D

OK. I just ran into my first PROBLEM. :(

Citric acid/citrate is in calcium and multi's. I have the health food store trying to track down whether they can find anything gluten, soy and citrus free in children's vitamins. Doesn't look promising at all. I really don't want to have my daughter go back to dairy.......she didn't test intolerant to it though (didn't have the IgE tested).

Mindboggling to me! Hum, did we discuss compounding pharmacies being able to do vitamins? Wonder if there is such a thing. I saw a link on one of the links V posted that had a list of compounding pharmacies. If my brain will work long enough I'll see if I can find it. Don't know if pharmacies bother with vitamins, but doesn't hurt to ask.

    I have missed you all.

This will just be a short post though I have lots and lots to say, briefly though, yes I have Lyme Disease and having been bouncing round happy, happy, happy, LOL because I am going to get well and yes like Rachel says once a Lymie always a Lymie but we don't have to be devoured by it. I am also feeling very smug and because I figured it out. Take that you Lyme bugs, :P .

    Love and Blessings, Rinnie

YAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy you've found out what it is! Was so excited when I saw you had posted on this thread and now even more so!

  6. So I bring in some leftovers from home to eat for lunch today and I made the mistake of heating my food inside the container instead of putting it in a clean dish. It completely slipped my mind that these containers that we've been using for years would be a great source of contamination. Now I'm feeling miserable and irritated and there's nothing I can take to feel better. Not to mention that I feel like an idiot...

I think it's probably happened to most of us in one form or another! Feel better soon!

  7. Donna,

Egg yolks are very high in sulphur....sulphur binds with mercury. This is one of the things I already knew about...I have a major problem with eggs. I thought maybe it was the whites so started eating just yolks...OMG...very bad idea.

The lady that did the Bioset test told me I need to avoid egg yolks cuz of my sulfur pathway not working....also garlic, onions, etc. I've already been avoiding sulphur foods and sulfites as much as possible because they really mess me up. I think mercury can be a part of it but in my case I cant process the sulphur foods anyway.

I'm pretty sure even foods high in sulphur can "disturb" any mercury that may be sitting in tissue somewhere but its not enough to pull it out of the tissue and chelate it. Those chelators I talked about before....DMPS and DMSA.... I'm pretty sure they are made up of sulphur compounds.

As for the flu shot. I can tell you this much...I've never had one and I rarely get sick...if I do...its a minor cold that lasts 1-3 days. The Bioset lady said my immune system kicks butt when it comes to colds and flus....I'm betting if I got a flushot that would all change. <_<

    No flushots for me!!

Yep, he mentioned garlic and onions too, so it must be the sulfer in those things not selenium. He did say if I eat seafood to take selenium. If I'm remembering correctly from past discussions on this thread, I probably shouldn't been trying too hard to detox from this until all the amalgams are out? Did I remember correctly? Hum, I bet the disturbing of the mercury is what makes me not feel so good, lol.

My first removal is next week--a crown and a filling! :o

I am really interested in the bioset thing though.

Thanks for the link V...going to read now.

  8. 1st. The biopsies showed no signs of malignancy. Thats just awesome.

Also, I tested negative for celiac. Half of me is happy because that means I can keep my current lifestyle, and half of me is sad because now I most likely have to go in for the dreaded colonoscopy. I think I now have more questions than answers.

Congratulations! Psst...the colonoscopy isn't so horrible...just the prep, lol. :P

  9. Ha, Andrea, I'll take the good, bad and ugly of it all, lol. I think you all have convinced me it's not a good idea. The lady who arranges it is still going to see if she can find out, but I'm certain it will have mercury. I've had those stupid shots for at least 10 years I think... not sure when my office started giving them, but it's been a while for sure...more than 5 definitely.

I wonder if it can be somewhat reversed by the detox process or at least keep it from getting worse?

On a side note, an alternative practioner (Kinesiologist) told me that my health was being affected by (among other factors) old vaccines. He didn't specify which ones, though.

Must look up kinesiologist and bioset!

  10. Found this on the Palo Alto Medical Group (a parent of the mainstream medical group (not the new clinic) I go to):

    "Is thimerosal safe?

Thimerosal, a preservative used in the standard flu vaccine (the classic "flu shot"), is considered to be a safe vaccine component by the CDC (see www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/thimerosal.htm). Nonetheless, thimerosal, which contains a minute amount of mercury, has been phased out of routine childhood vaccines. A California state law effective July 1, 2006 mandates the use of influenza vaccine that has zero or trace amounts of thimerosal in two patient groups:

    1) Children under 36 months of age

    2) Pregnant women (see "Is a thimerosal-free vaccine available?")."

So looks like I don't fit the appropriate group, lol.

I think I've decided to NOT get the shot, but I'm going to ask the clinic doctors tomorrow and the mercury dentist next week. I've also emailed the person here who is arranging for the nurse to come in to find out if (and I already know it will) the vaccine she uses contains thimerosal.

  11. Vaccines are a difficult and complicated issue for anyone, but for us, it's even harder. We've got doctors saying that we are more at risk for pneumonia. Some of the vaccines still have mercury, which is obviously a HUGE problem for a lot of us. How do we know just what to believe?

Maybe we should have a vaccine poll on this board? Something along the lines of, "Have you ever had a bad reaction to a vaccine," or "what is your experience with the flu shot," or something like that.

I think that, just as with our normal (?!) gluten issues, anecdotal evidence from people on this board might be both more accurate and more relevant than what the doctors say, and what the studies purport to show. Studies, as we all know, can be skewed and manipulated. And usually are, especially when run by the pharm industry. And many doctors only parrot what they've been taught (which is usually by the pharm industry).

There are people who are very happy with the flu shot. I am not one of them. The three years I did get the flu shot, I got the flu AND other viruses way, way more often than at any other time in my life. I also had rather nasty local reactions (huge hot red swellings at the injection site). I am kicking myself for ever giving my oldest the flu shot (we were told to because he had had heart surgery--but there are no studies to see if kids at risk might actually be adversely affected by the flu shot!).

I think the best advice for avoiding the flu is:

#1) Don't eat out during flu season. Seriously. We don't know the health status of the people preparing our food or handling the silverware. Even if they have good hygiene (and come one, are you really going to trust the personal hygiene of minimum wage-earning total strangers), if they are ABOUT to come down with the flu, they are at the height of contagion before they even have any symptoms--and they are breathing all over the food or coffee that is about to go in our mouths, and handling our silverware. Doesn't make for good odds.

#2) The same goes for indoor kiddie places like Chuckie Cheese and McDonald's PlayPlace--total germ pits! Go to outdoor playgrounds instead--at least there's fresh air there!

#3) Wash your hands. Often. With soap and hot water, NOT purell. Wash your hands when you leave any building, and wash them again the MINUTE you walk into your front door. How many people do you shake hands with every day? How many times do you see someone sneeze or cough into their hand--and then open a door, push an elevator button, or hand you a cup of coffee?

    4) If you have a guest powder room, and people (guests, carpenters, whoever) come to your house, install a paper towel holder instead of hanging a couple of common hand towels. Do you really want to dry your hands on the same towel that the plumber used (even assuming he washed his hands)?

Thanks! I've had the flu shot every year for the past 10 years or so, except for one year when they couldn't get a nurse to come in. I get them free at my job...they have a nurse come in to do anyone in the office that wants one. I've been trying to remember if I've had any bad reactions, and can remember at least one time that I had a really bad reaction...felt horrible for two days afterwards...very achey, run down, exhausted and slighlty flu-ish, but other than that it is hard to tell because I've been so sick the last 5 years, I actually couldn't tell WHAT makes me feel bad unless it's a really strong reaction.

You know, it used to be that I never got sick. I could be sitting right next to someone with a bad cold who was sneezing and coughing and not come down with it...but during the last 5 years all someone has to do it think about sneezing and I catch something...only it's not a cold. I get infections like sinus, ear or some such thing. So, I've become quite a fanatic about washing my hands. I walk around the building here with paper towels in my hands to open the doors, lol...and if I don't carry paper towels I use my sleeves. I've also probably made things worse with my fanaticism...if someone in my department sneezes, as soon as they leave the room I spray it down with Lysol, lol. I use wet-ones to wipe down the handles and such and once they leave the room, I even wipe down their keyboards and phones, lol. But, those chemicals are probably NOT the best thing for me (which is why I started using the wipes, which actually probably don't do much, lol).

Hum, maybe a poll is a good idea, lol.

On an side-mercury note, lol. The doctor suggested I not eat seafood, which I really haven't been for a couple of months. He also said that if I HAVE to eat some (which I don't usually, lol) that I should take selenium with it because selenium binds the mercury...do any of you mercury savvy girls (or guys) have any experience with that. He also suggested eating more eggs for the same reason (I think). I think a few 100 pages back I mentioned my egg thing...when I eat eggs, I get a sick feeling, but I did NOT test positive for allergies (skin scratch) or intolerance (Enterolab)...I'm wondering if it's because the selenium in the egg is binding with the mercury and is making me feel icky.

Rachel--the thing with the ice cream. Your little candida friends may be the culprits for your seemingly insatiable craving for the stuff, lol.

  12. #2, Something to think about staying away from the Flu Shot, supposedly their is a bunch of Mercury in the shot itself, if you might be sensitive/reacting to Mercury already, I imagine it wouldn't be the best thing to happen.

Yikes! Never knew that. It's been drilled into my head over the last 5 years that I NEED the darned flu shot because my immune system is shot...how irritating that the flu shot might actually be making that worse, lol.

Well Rach, you can't exactly fight with like 20 angry women...so I guess you'll have to give in.....

    Yah! So there!

gluten + nut bars + bean stew + stupididity = heinosity of the tummy.

 sorry but  you said heinosity!

At work and what not I'm not shy at all, quite the opposite actually. But when it comes to meeting women and expressing feelings in the beginning of a relationship, I am like the shyest guy ever...sucks. Oh well....

Next time we'll arrange something so you can properly "size me up":lol:

Same here...fairly shy when meeting ANYONE, but especially men. Makes for a tough time, lol.

  13. Sorry, thought of more, lol.

He also said that the mercury vapor can seep up and do awful things to the sinuses...um, gosh bet that's why I've had such terrible sinus problems for the last 5 years and why all the allergy treatments, etc. haven't helped that much, and why my infections got better after going gluten/casein free, but the sinuses still aren't clear.

He said my timeline fits...that mercury toxicity is cumulative and that it makes sense that I'd be getting steadily worse as time goes on.

Oh, and he said that he does the removal very carefully cuz his face will be >this< close to mine and he doesn't want to breathe it, lol. Actually he said he wrote the protocol for safe removal which was accepted by some organization or other...I can't remember things worth a darn. I need a Dave, lol!

  14. To make it unamimous...I think Dave is pretty nifty myself, lol. Glad you "got" it finally Rachel, lol.

Wow, what is this about flu shots and mercury??? I'll be getting a flu shot on November 13...should I not with mercury coursing through my whole body, lol. :P

Just got back from seeing Dr. Adams, the Mercury dentist. Yep, he's pretty certain I'm suffering from some sort of mercury toxicity. He said it's been a long time since he'd seen so many of the symptoms checked of the questionnaire they give you, lol. So, I'll be getting me some amalgams removed. That's the good news. The bad news is that he can't see through my gold crowns (and even the porcelain one I just had put on), so they will have to be removed to see if there is any amalgam under there. :( Lordy, they gave me an estimate of what it would cost to replace the whole deal....um, I could almost buy a little car with that, lol. Not sure how I'm going to afford it, but I think it's important. I asked if they had a payment plan, which they do...I think I'd rather do it slowly though, a few months apart maybe that way I don't have to have more outstanding debt. The first installment alone is quite hefty...not sure I have any benefit left for this year after the stupid crown and root canal. :( He'll do a quadrant at a time...in my case that's hefty, lol, since I have so many darned crowns and fillings. He was amazed that I had amalgam in my two front teeth...he said they don't usually use amalgam there...of course they don't, lol.

Anyway, I really liked him...there was a question about rage...I answered "only when I drive" which he got a real kick out of.

He even thinks my itchy legs might be related...says it can happen...and since nothing else seems to be working, what the heck.

He had some not very nice things to say about my other dental work and some not very nice things to say about the fact that I was on so many antibiotics over a three year period. I have to get my latest xrays from my dentist's office...there's that breakup thing again, lol.

 by-the way Rachel, he asked who referred me and I said Rachel from the Internet. He said he knew who you were, lol.:lol::lol::lol: (Psst...I don't think he REALLY did, lol). And, yes I really thought the HN offices were great...well, had a momentary fleeting stress point when I pulled up in the parking lot and realized that one of our clients is located in the building, lol. Just can't get away from that darned work, lol.

  15. That's what I'm hoping it is. I'm eating nothing but whole foods and nothing stays with me long or digests (sorry <_< ). It's been going on for a week ... whenever I eat, my stomach hurts, so I don't want to eat, plus it hurts to chew with the braces, so I have to force food down. Adam asks now for a list of everything I ate to be sure I am eating. I've lost most of the weight I worked so hard to gain. Today it's all caught up with me and I'm really tired. Up till now, I've had a lot of energy, well, compared to before.

Would it make sense that this is detox? I have been taking saunas every day, and what I've read about them says they make you detox heavy metals which can cause d. I KNOW I'm not getting any gluten or dairy. Everything I'm eating is fresh and I make it myself.

I'm sorry it's a bad day. I don't know much about detox, but I've always thought that the toxins will leave the body any way they can. Wish it would stick to the sauna for you!

  16. Some shops charge up to $90 per hour but that is for really good places. Don't get me wrong, some places charge that much and aren't that great. I use a shop that charges 90 per hour, but they specifically deal with Vipers and Mustangs, and do work on some race cars. That's why I don't mind spending 90 per hour, but if it was just for my regular car or whatever, I wouldn't pay that much. My place that charges 90 per hour quoted me like $400 for all 4 shocks/struts. Donna said hers is just one, but even two should only take like 15 minutes longer than one. Donna, PM me before you pay someone a GOOGILLION DOLLARS!!!!

    Deal! :)

DUH! :P Has my E-Flirting become so obvious to everyone now? I thought you all realized this some 50 odd pages ago or so?? Besides, I think the cat is already out of the bag

Cat was out about 200-300 pages ago to some of us.

OMG, haha! I was of course thinking of your face until you put it in paranthesis. Now I'm thinking of swabbing your butt cheeks, and I can't stop laughing

Well, the conversation had JUST been about stool samples...I wanted to make sure there was no confusion.

From what the lady said yesterday she wants to handle the intolerances and what not, and let the other Doctors handle the Lyme and Candida I believe.

I will let Rachel tell all of her scientificness, but just wanted to add that it was a good informational (aka overwhelming) appt. Some of the most important questions were answered with positive answers, which is obviously awesome!

For now the lady wants to help Rach's body detox a bit so that Rach will be able to start taking certain supplements and eating certain foods that her body is now rejecting, but that are necessary to help fight the Lyme and Candida. For now Rach is supposed to be taking (you better do it cuz I don't want to have to kick you @ss!!) these drops to help detox. She is supposed to put them on her wrists in the AM and PM and let them slowly absorb into the skin/blood. I'll let Rach tell the rest....

    Hope everyone is doing well!

Thanks! I am just so excited about this for Rachel, lol.

  17. Your situation sounds suspiciously like mecury problems. My dentist shaved the tooth down for my crowns, so the amalgam was shaved down with it. I had a dam in my mouth but that's it. My doctor wants me to have them taken care of but by the time I get the rest of my crowns I'll only have a pinpoint one (front tooth) and one other one of which the tooth could not be saved if it was taken care of. If my intolerances are due to that then what about the rest of the family. No one has amalgams but me. Mitch has a capped tooth that he broke when he was around 8, other than that he's just had a wisdom tooth removed a couple years ago. The kids have none.

A mystery to be sure for the kids and hubby! I'm pretty sure there isn't much left of my real tooth under most of my crowns, it scares me a little if they have to be replaced, yikes!
