Well, here I am again, aging as gracefully as possible without losing my face. Do you goofy young'uns need instructions? I have a few secrets I'll be happy to share.
1. If there's a large mirror in your bathroom, never look into it when you're just stepping out of the shower! I haven't looked at my naked body in fifteen years.
2. Never look at yourself in the full-length mirrors in dressings rooms until you are fully clothed. Even then, do not look at your face under those flourescent lights.
3. Remember that all overhead lighting is your enemy. Remodel your bathroom to exclude overhead lights; instead install soft lighting on both sides of your mirror.
4. Put on your makeup in this soft light; go out and have a good time; and never look at your face in another mirror until you get home.
Do you get my drift here? Mirrors are not our friends. That's because we women see ourselves as we really are.
Men, on the other hand, begin to lose all touch with reality after their 30th birthday. Somehow they become vision-impaired when gazing into mirrors. Do they see wrinkles, sagging pot bellies, multiple chins, shiny bald heads? No indeedy. They only see the bodies of the 18-year-old studs they used to be! And that explains why they believe the flattery of sweet young things looking for a sugar daddy. Men are hilarious!
5. Wear long sleeves. A few years ago one of my little grandsons was affectionately squeezing my well-covered upper arm, when he suddenly stopped and gasped, "Grandmama, are you OLD?" Thereafter I added:

Mosquitos??? Do we have those in Rachelville....
If we do its all Donna's fault....shes the pest control person and I would think mosquitos would be classified as being pests.
Maybe Donna is spending too much time on the ants....trying to think up unique and *humane* ways of relocating them out of R-Ville.
Yes, that unique and humane thing was really taxing my brain, lol...there shall be no mosquitos in Rachelville...do they even perform a useful function? Speak up quick if they do or they're history.
If it were me, I would use one of those HUGE mugs that look like a gigantic soup bowl and then tell myself it wasn't so bad because at least it was a mug.......I attempted to follow the other thread & got caught up in it. It is like a soap opera or something. I just keep reading. Every so often I actually pipe in but maybe if I had a job in this town....I'd have more to say. Ha!You may certainly have a job, but heck, don't need to have anything to post here...just post whatever's on your mind.
Oh, I also drag race with my husband. Can come in handy when we're trying to run out full gluten folks who happen onto our little cult farm without taking a stint in the decontamination chamber first.

All very interesting to me since I have angioedema, but you know how many posts I come across on this board about people having hives/uticaria? It all has to relate somehow to the digestive process, lowered/heightened immunity, multiple food intolerances/allergies ...
And another thing, through my research I found out that meds for heart burn/reflux/GERD are mostly H2 blockers, as in histamine 2 blockers.
Okay, I'm taking two meds only...Zyrtec and Zantac75 (my GI had me on this for a couple months before that last endoscope to see if reducing acids helped the cells look more normal)....I'm trying to taper off the Zantac75, but maybe I should keep it in if I'm reading you correctly...or maybe it's not an H2 blocker, just acid.
I agree!!!

Okay, I need your expertise ... I was going to go on a bike ride with my family. I wiped down my bike, felt bad, so came inside and had a snack. I sat down for about 5 minutes, then went back out. I was getting my water bottle ready and almost totally blacked out, got real dizzy and sat down till Adam came outside and asked him to walk me in.
What's up with that?? I haven't been glutened or caseined. I'm feeling great, except for the fatigue because of having this new appliance in my mouth (my husband had the same fatigue the first few days when he got his invisalign braces) ... any ideas?
Premature post....that's exactly what was happening to me around the first of the year...I happened to be in my surgeon's office for a pre-op appointment...we were almost done talking when I felt it coming on. I told him I felt like I was going to pass out, so he had me lay back on the table and called the nurse in who took my blood pressure...it had dropped REALLY low...they had taken it when I first went in as part of their normal patient routine and it had gone from something like 106 (can't remember what the second number wsa) to 90/50...I've had that happen before and I'm thinking it was probably always related to blood pressure...it usually happens when I have blood drawn--I can feel the blood draining from my head in that instance, but it also happens at other times...fortunately not too often anymore. In that case I think I was dehydrated...I had blood drawn in the morning then went shopping and didn't have my water with me, then went to the pre-op appt.
It also sometimes happens if I change altitude too quickly...like standing to floor or floor to standing, but not often.
Donna,I just ummmm...gave a sample to the orange jug....after that I read the directions. Sheeeesh...I'm so backwards about things sometimes.
Anyways it says this on the directions.
For 3 days before and during the collection of the specimen, exclude the following items from the diet:
coffee, chocolate, bananas, citrus fruits and nuts. I'm not eating these things (good thing) but I thought I'd highlight the chocolate on the list...just for you.
Sheesh...I'll have to fast for the three days before that test.
Just had some macademia nuts...that's probably bad, lol.
Okay, I just did a search on "dental vertigo" and it said that TMJ and malocclusion can cause vertigo. Since this appliance is messing with my whole jaw, I guess in theory it could be what's causing my dizziness. This is scary!!Okay, so ignore my premature post above...this sounds pretty scarey! I do know that dizzyness was one of my main symptoms at the time I joined this thread and it's a horrible feeling, so I'm so sorry you're going through it.

I looked at the ingredients on all the breads. I'm avoiding brown rice right now because it sometimes bothers me....I read that it contains more histamines than white rice for some reason. Also avoiding tapioca for now....definately nothing sweetened with fruit juice.
...
Speaking of histamines. I'm starting my testing for that today. I'm doing a 24 hour urine test and a blood test. I have to save all of my urine from today in a HUGE orange jug. Seriously I dont know why its so big...I probably wont even fill half of it. I'm glad I'm home and doing it on a Sunday. Can you imagine?? What if I had to carry this thing around with me??
Tomorrow I'll bring it back to the lab and then they'll draw the blood. I'm so curious about this test. Cant wait to find out.
...
Donna, are you still wondering about histamines?? I remember when you suspected having problems with chicken awhile back. Chicken and all fresh meats contain "amines". The longer they're around before you eat them the more amines they will develop. I try to get the "freshest" meat possible....I eat it within one day. I dont buy the packaged meat from the grocery store anymore because I noticed sometimes I'd react. This was before I found out about the amines. All of the different "amines" can cause histamine reaction. I buy organic chicken fresh from whole foods. If I'm not gonna eat it within a day I'll freeze it.
Also never eat leftovers. It stresses this on the histamine restricted diet....leftovers will have tons of amines.
YIkes on the brown rice. The last couple of weeks I've been eating Lundberg brown rice cakes...two a day. I bet that's one culprit right there!
Yes, I am still wondering about the histamines. I buy all my meats from Whole Foods and generally buy them from the meat counter, but the last couple of weeks I've been buying some of the packaged chicken. Bet that's another culprit. I'm still not sure if chicken is a problem, but it could be. I usually divide and freeze my meats the day I buy them, and lately I've been cooking all the meats for my week day lunches on Saturday or Sunday, then freezing them in individual portions--just taking them out the day I need them.
So is the orange pee jug to test for histamines or is that the blood test? Is that from your doctor at HN? I think I will eventually need to get my bewtocks in there to see them. I bet they would be able to help figure this out in my case. Female Dr. P said she thought they could help me with some of this. I emailed the clinic about food allergy testing and she answered me and corresponded by email for a while during the ampulla of vater adventure, lol.

Donna....I see you...thought I smelled Bumble Bar chocolate.....
my skin, why, thank you for asking!! um, much better. the peeling stage is over....for now.
Might be applying the product again, for more torture, and no complaining from me since I DO know what it does.....that's like complaining after eating nuggetts....my own fault.....
Darned chocolate bumble bars.....so hard to hide with that lovely aroma wafting around. Or, could it be the crumb trail I left.
Me too, and I agree!! Our crazy party bird is so smart!!! I wish I could impart words of wisdom, but alas I am not as wise as our crazy bird, lol.

This made me laugh!
The fact that she ate it ALL in 48 hours made me laugh. Our Rachelville President is so, so, so Rachel.
Well, I went through the first part of the day yesterday without the intense itching, but was feeling slightly nauseated and lightheaded which I think was probably from being a little dehydrated...my blood pressure is so low normally and when I get a little dehydrated it really dips LOW. It was after dinner that I started to itch badly...had chicken breast, PEAS (I know, I know), an organic corn totilla, a little apple juice (unsweetened) and mineral water, and mango sorbet which I make from frozen organic mango, agave nectar (about 1 tablespoon) and a little stevia (which I haven't had in 2 weeks).

I'm eating Ener-G bread now. Is this not the happiest and yet saddest thing both at the same time??
Those of you who havent eaten bread in a long time will understand the "happy" part...anyone who has tasted Ener-G bread will know why I'm sad about it.
Its really too soon to tell if the bread will do me in...of course in typical "Rachel" fashion...I have eaten the whole loaf in less than 48 hours.
There are lots of good gluten free breads but I'm stuck with this one cuz its basically made out of almost nothing.
The Dave and I were talking about french toast last night. Breakfast food used to be my favorite and I loved the restaurants that would have breakfast available 24 hours. Awesome!! Anyways he dosnt know how to make french toast and asked if I'd make it for him sometime...gluten free of course. I told him I'd make his out of real bread and I'll make the gluten-free stuff for myself. No WAY am I gonna make someones first gluten-free meal out of Ener-G bread.
Holy Cow...they would be traumatized by the words "gluten-free" for life!
I'll make his out of the big texas toast bread....perfect for french toast (what a lucky guy). I'll make mine out of the cardboard stuff that is "labeled" as bread but looks like styrofoam and tastes like anything but bread.
Premature post...
Yes, I've had the Ener-G bread, lol. I have a loaf of Food For Life Millet Bread in my freezer...don't have it very often, but I do ocassionally make some french toast with it. It's not horrible, lol.
Definately the mold. If I take the time to make homemade juice or smoothies (and in that case I drink a lot more than comes in those little bottles!!), I have no problem at all. Peanut butter causes the same problem. This is, however, an item I can rotate in ... twice a week and I'm okay. My problem was I was drinking it every day. Thanks! I'll have to explore this further...I've gotten pretty lazy in avoiding the stuff I should be with the mold thing (except haven't been drinking juice, lol), so quite possibly THAT could be the reason I'm itching so much.

Wow, missed a lot while I was on the couch.
Thanks Rachel...I agree with everything you posted...that's one of the reasons I took a few days off from posting last week...it was just too much to keep up with combined with some of the stuff going on at work. Susan, you can't leave!! I don't want anyone to leave.
I have to admit that sometimes my eyes gloss over at some of the scientificness posts, but I'm glad they're here because at some point I'm going to want to read them...it's just so hard to find them sometimes. I just sometimes need cliff notes, lol.
Carla...do you think the problem was the sugar in the fruit or the mold?
I have suspected for a long time that I might have a problem with sugar, but not sure if it's sugar sugar or fruit sugar or both. I definitely have a problem with mold though--probably should always do an anticandida/antiyeast diet.
Wasn't as itchy today so that's a good sign...my prescriptions can't be filled until Monday--they have to order the creams because they "aren't used much and they don't keep them in stock", lol.
Evie - so glad to see you!!!!

I was having trouble posting earlier too, so I got frustrated and didn't reply to everything I wanted to reply to and, well, it's just to scarey to go back now.
First off, love the new picture Carla!
Secondly, if I said anything to offend anyone, I am really sorry...I was in a weird way for a couple of days because of that HR person being on site...she's never on site unless someone is being let go and that kind of messed with my whole being, lol.
Anyway, I AM sorry if it was me!
I lift weights too Carla, and can do big-girl push-ups but can't for the life of me do a pull up...course don't really have anywhere in my house to test that theory out, but pretty sure I can't, lol.
I've lifted weights for 4 years now and to look at me you'd never be able to tell except I think that's probably one reason why people say I don't look 51. Didn't start working out until I was 47, so I agree that it's not too late.
Rinne - I hope you find your dog soon...one of the things that used to worry me the most with my two babies was that they would get out and I wouldn't be able to find them...neither had chips, but when I get another dog, that one will have one.
Bought more beads...I may need a bead intervention.
Still no chocolate Bumble Bars at Whole Foods, lol, but did buy some naturally carbonated mineral water which I plan to mix with some fruit juice...no diet sodas this week.
Okay, not feeling great right now so I'm going to go lay on the couch and watch TV and look at my beads.

Well the appointment with the dermatologist went just about as I expected...she has no idea why my legs are so itchy. She did give me a script for some topical antihistamine cream and a mild topical steroidal cream. I haven't filled the prescriptions yet, but might be willing to try the topical antihistamine cream. We talked about the histamine foods, sugar, environmental causes, etc. but in the end she can't imagine the food being the problem because she thinks it would be more systemic itching. She also didn't think it was DH because it doesn't look like it, and it should be getting better not worse on gluten-free diet. So, I'm back to still just trying to figure it all out myself. I'm not sure I agree with the reaction being more systemic though...I think we've proven on this site and on this thread that reactions can be very different and attack in different placed in different people.

Sorry, didn't mean to bring up a sore subject! I'll make my next batch of cookies chocolate-free in your honor.
Oh thank you...I might just be able to avoid that 12-step program.
Are any of you travelers? How do you cope? Huge suitcases filled with rice cakes?Almost...I've done most of my traveling before I went gluten/casein free, but have always taken food with me. I just went to Las Vegas a few weeks ago and took all kinds of stuff to supplement my habit, lol.

Well, I guess it's time to out myself properly... I have been wandering silently through Rachelville for some time. And yes, I'm somewhat embarrassed that my first actual post was in regard to naked guide guy... but there you have it. Revealed in Cyberworld forever as a dirty old lady.
Please let me redeem myself. Would you like a cocoa pecan meringue? Just baked some... Cup of tea, perhaps?
Leah
Welcome! Wish I COULD eat a cocoa pecan meringue, lol.
I have a problem with chocolate.

It turns out the cream was irrelevant for me. I had something called perforating foliculitis - where the hair follicle grows out and then goes back in - it looked like I had zits all over my legs. There is no diffinitive way to treat it so my dermatiologist used me as a case study. We did 10 treatments of laser hair removal, from my ankles to my bikini line (can you believe he convinced my insurance to cover this??).
Okay now really
! Amazing that they got that covered...darned insurance companies don't want to pay for the regular everyday stuff!

Donna and Beverly,
This stuff is Bad (with a capital
!!
In all my research I've come across so much info. having to do with aspartame. Aspartame was the very first thing in food I knew I was reacting to...way before I heard of gluten. It was only in my gum but it was causing severe symptoms that calmed down once I stopped chewing gum. I looked it up online not knowing a thing about it. What I read was scary.
I also read alot from people who had suffered tremendously because of the aspartame in all the diet products they were consuming. The stuff is toxic...period.
Beverly, since you've been through the wringer with symptoms similar to mine...from the nightsweats to everything else...I would definately lose the diet coke...at least for a week or two. I feel like you will notice some improvement for sure. If you dont I would be very surprised. Have you ever stopped drinking it this whole time? If not it could be something to look into. If you do decide to eliminate it....dont switch to another diet drink. You would be better off drinking regular Coke.....seriously. Avoid the diet products and see what happens.
Donna, you could try elimininating it too. If you do have problems with histamine....food additives like MSG and Aspartame will cause a reaction. They dont actually contain histamine but because they are essentially a toxic substance the immune system will respond with a release of histamine. Thats why they are not allowed on a histamine restricted diet. They cause pseudo-allergic reactions.

Dont know if this will help either of you with any of your symptoms but I've read posts from other people on various boards who said they had alot of problems that disappeared after they avoided Aspartame. I believe it because of the severity of my own reactions just from the chewing gum.
Thanks for the links...I'll read them later hopefully (or maybe Monday since I'll be partying then leaving in a little while). I usually don't drink very many diet drinks, but when it's hot water just doesn't always do it (I do also drink a lot of water)...I'll try it for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

went white water rafting once and that was the theme song for our video. Very apropos as we lost the guide off the back of the boat in a class V rapid. No one even noticed until my shy sister-in-law looked back and said, "uhm, you guys. I think we lost the guide."
We lost him and he lost his swimming trunks
Luckily, he had neoprene shorts underneath!

I was prescribed that cream for a condition I had on my legs. I cannot even imagine putting it on my face. I lasted two treatments, on my legs, before I threw it away. It literally was peeling the top layers of skin off and leaving the raw under layers exposed! If I were you I wouldn't put it on my face - what happens when you go out into the sun? Were you prescribed this?
Yikes, I have an appointment with a dermatologist today for my legs...intense itching.

I toast the first side on the DARK setting then turn the tortilla over, spray it with Olive oil and add salt then toast it on the MEDIUM setting... It is a little crispy on the edges but a little chewy on the inside and doesn't have the raw tortilla taste...I'm also using a corn tortilla that I found at whole foods, which looks almost as white as a flour tortilla.

Cool! I'm just starting up again...used to make earrings years ago and just decided to make bracelets...
I have made almost 60 in 2 weeks.
Need bead intervention quickly....
