Rachel--24

Omg...i Might Be On To Something

Recommended Posts

Rachel,

My daughter had one of those orange jugs. It was a pathetic collection....to say the least.

Rachel has started the Rachelville 2 thread for all that want to come over and gab. :P

Okay, I need your expertise ... I was going to go on a bike ride with my family. I wiped down my bike, felt bad, so came inside and had a snack. I sat down for about 5 minutes, then went back out. I was getting my water bottle ready and almost totally blacked out, got real dizzy and sat down till Adam came outside and asked him to walk me in.

What's up with that?? I haven't been glutened or caseined. I'm feeling great, except for the fatigue because of having this new appliance in my mouth (my husband had the same fatigue the first few days when he got his invisalign braces) ... any ideas?

Yeah...I'm a little slow. I thought it was for women only...something about face creams??

I figured it out now. Celia clued me in.

Anyways I figure alot of people (who are as slow as I am) might not go into the thread because of the title. There will definately be no men in R-Ville with a title like that!

PREMATURE POST - - -

okay now THREE threads to follow - - this is too much! - - - Cecile started the lunacy over there, was just minding my own bidness!! It's a hoot - take a look gals, and brave guys (defnitely female-oriented over there.....)

So many thread and too little time....I may have to resign. :o Can't keep up!!!

Hi to all - - haven't read anything yet today, just the last page here - - gotta get busy in the garden and such - gorgeous day.

xoxo

Carla,

I'm not sure...do you have low blood sugar? I think Vincent knows alot about that. What did you eat for your snack? I got that feeling a few times when I started eating stuff like candy bars and alot of processed foods. Sometimes I would get shaky, lightheaded or dizzy. I'm not really sure why it happened though. :(

Donna,

I just ummmm...gave a sample to the orange jug....after that I read the directions. Sheeeesh...I'm so backwards about things sometimes.

Anyways it says this on the directions.

For 3 days before and during the collection of the specimen, exclude the following items from the diet:

coffee, chocolate, bananas, citrus fruits and nuts. I'm not eating these things (good thing) but I thought I'd highlight the chocolate on the list...just for you. ;)

I almost ate nuts yesterday...so glad I didnt. :)

My fasting blood sugar was just tested a couple weeks ago and was normal. Sometimes I think it does get low. With my hurting mouth, I may not be eating enough ... I ate eggs, with ground buffalo and veggies for lunch (soft food). My snack was a chocolate Enjoy Life bar, but I was feeling bad when I ate it and I went outside within a few minutes afterward, so I don't think it could have made my blood sugar drop that quickly, but I don't know. I'm still dizzy just sitting here ... I promised not to get up before they got back.

Okay, I just did a search on "dental vertigo" and it said that TMJ and malocclusion can cause vertigo. Since this appliance is messing with my whole jaw, I guess in theory it could be what's causing my dizziness. This is scary!!

Premature post....that's exactly what was happening to me around the first of the year...I happened to be in my surgeon's office for a pre-op appointment...we were almost done talking when I felt it coming on. I told him I felt like I was going to pass out, so he had me lay back on the table and called the nurse in who took my blood pressure...it had dropped REALLY low...they had taken it when I first went in as part of their normal patient routine and it had gone from something like 106 (can't remember what the second number wsa) to 90/50...I've had that happen before and I'm thinking it was probably always related to blood pressure...it usually happens when I have blood drawn--I can feel the blood draining from my head in that instance, but it also happens at other times...fortunately not too often anymore. In that case I think I was dehydrated...I had blood drawn in the morning then went shopping and didn't have my water with me, then went to the pre-op appt.

It also sometimes happens if I change altitude too quickly...like standing to floor or floor to standing, but not often.

Okay, so ignore my premature post above...this sounds pretty scarey! I do know that dizzyness was one of my main symptoms at the time I joined this thread and it's a horrible feeling, so I'm so sorry you're going through it.

I am behind on the scientificness here, will have to catch up....

 Rachel at the Ener-G bread, yes very sad and yet so exciting at the same time!

I have not been able to find a bread I can eat, they all just make me plain sick. Too many ingredients I guess, and too processed.

I am stuck with my corn tortillas and I have been eating the rice tortillas once in a while and I seem to do ok with them. And I have had tamales, potatoes, and some potato chips.

I would like to figure out a corn bread recipe I can eat, maybe that would be my "bread"

Am interested about the histamine pee test  how do they treat it if your levels are abnormal??

Thank you. And I was just starting to get really healthy, now I look like a sicky again! :(

Oh Carla, I'm so sorry :(

Still waiting for the progluten reactions from yesterday.....my mom forgot about the flour she coats the pot roast with. She said it was just a little and shouldn't hurt us. :o:(

Andrea, how is everyone feeling so far??

ORANGE 'PEE' JUG STORY--- WHEN BEING TESTED FOR CUSHINGS...I WAS STILL WORKING..AND HAD TO COLLECT ALL PEE 24/7 FOR 7 DAYS, YES THAT'S ONE FULL WEEK.

TRY PEEING IN A JUG IN A HOSPITAL BATH ROOM

ONE THE LAST DAY...THE DR OFFICE CALLED AND SAID, "JUDY, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TELL YOU THIS..BUT ON DAY 5 ONE OF YOUR JUGS LEAKED IN THE TRANSPORT VAN AND SO...WE'LL HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN. I TOLD THEM WHAT THEY COULD DO WITH THEIR 'BIG ORANGE JUGS'

NEVER DID RULE IT OUT...I TOOK A PILL THAT STARTED WITH A 'D' THE DAY BEFORE THE FIRST JUG COLLECTION. MAYBE ONE OF YOU WILL KNOW WHAT IT WAS. ALL THE SWELLING IN MY BODY WAS GONE THE DAY AFTER TAKING IT...STILL CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS.

Carla, I bet you're right about the appliance being the culprit! That really sucks though. :(

Julie,

I wonder if we could all come up with some kind of corn bread??? That would be so cool and so yummy....I love corn bread. :D

Ummm...I have no idea what they would do if the levels come back high.

Right now I'm just gonna see if I'm right about it....one step at a time.... just having something come back abnormal would be cause for celebration. I think I might throw a party.

How twisted is that??

At least if they see something is wrong and it corresponds to what I'm saying....I would think the docs would start looking into it....trying to get to the bottom of why this is happening. Thats my hope anyway. There are lots of reasons why histamine levels can rise. As far as I know the only treatment is restricted diet and antihistamines. Hopefully if the test is positive my doc will prescribe a compounded antihistamine if possible. Since the place I go to looks into the causes for these type things I'm hoping they will want to figure out whats causing the elevated histamine levels.

If the test is negative I'll be bummed....I better not build myself up too much.

:lol::lol::lol:

Judy, hilarious!!

I hope mine doesnt leak while I transport it from Manteca to my Mom's. Cant have my car reeking like pee. That would NOT be good. <_<

I have to figure something out though. The test needs to be exactly 24 hours. I started at 8:30 this morning....so I have to take my last sample at the same time tomorrow. I'll be at work at that time....no way am I gonna bring the big orange jug to work with me. It needs to be refridgerated so what am I suppossed to do put it in the break room fridge???

I'm thinking The Dave may have a problem with me doing that. :P

I suppose I could "hide" it somewhere in my dairy cooler. I could quickly dash from the cooler to the restroom (cant exactly hide the jug under my shirt though)...I will just have to make sure the coast is clear.

I'll peek out of the cooler  .....make sure nobody is around...and then RUN!

Getting back into the cooler with the orange jug may be more of a challenge. <_<

EDIT: OMG....I seee The Dave. :o

Umm...I was just kiddin....I'm not really gonna bring the "orange jug" to work. hehehe

Well, since The Dave has no authority over you, I guess you can do what you want. Put a big orange juice sticker on it, then just hope no one sells it!!!

CarlB...

Fasting blood sugar WILL NOT test for low blood sugar, it is how ever one of hte tests for DIABETAES which is High Blood Sugar.

Do you have a home glucose testor? If so the test for LOW blood sugar (also know as hypoglycemia) is easy to do at home. The test kits are litk $15-$20 if you get an elcheapo which is all you need for this. I have the CVS sotre brand. Came with 10 test strips, and you will only need 5 or so for this.

What you do is first fast for AT LEAST eight hours. Its easiest to do this while your sleeping. Then test your blood sugar, it should be between like 70 and 120. If so, that is good and pretty much what you already tested, but theres more to come...

Next eat a sugary meal. Somthing most ppl would be fine with, but on the surgary side, aviod or minimaze protien/fat. Note the time you START eating. After that meal do not eat any more or it will efect the test. Then every hour check your blood sugar (from the time you started eating). YOur first test at one hour should be the highest, but under 140 or so. After that it should fall steadily. Do this for 4 hours. Your score should never drop below 70ish. If you get a low score AND you start feeling symptons (nausa, light headed, shakes, etc), then eat somthing!!! Wiat 15-20 after that and retest. If your symptons start clearing up, and your score heads back up thats considered diagnostic of "Reactive Hypoglycema".

Take those results to your doctor for an offical dx. Pleaes note the diabtes test where they make you drink a jug of sweet liquid is NOT SAFE for hypoglycemics, as it will cause a what we call a "crash".

If thats not clear, please ask away , and if I mis your question PM me :)

Good luck!

If you ever get a number over say 180 or 200, that would be indictiave of diabetes and you would need to talk to your doc about that.

Carla - I just lost it over the orange sticker and the hope no one would sell it. Thanks for the belly laugh. I have just spent over 30 minutes reading all 3 threads and I should be in the kitchen baking some things for me to put weight on.

On the subject of corny scientificness,

1. Polenta!!!!! I love it but then I'm a grits lover & they're close cousins. I like it best after it's been chilled & then fried in olive oil & garlic. It's scrumptious with tomato sauce, for those who can eat that... or ratatouille.

2. Corn eating bread questers-- I've been thinking about coming up with a recipe that's somewhere between corn bread, tortillas & a pancake, that is, thicker, softer & fluffier than tortillas, but usable as a sandwich matrix... What are your dos & don'ts for quick breads? Soda okay? Are egg yolks out too, or only whites? Please advise & I'll try to accomodate.

3. Lime in hominy/ grits/ masa-- it's my understanding that it all gets washed off, but I suppose it's conceivable there is a tiny bit of residue. But it is an alkali, & don't you have a problem with acids? So it might even help...

Donna, I always react to the rice cakes.....its a quicker reaction then what I'd get from plain brown rice or brown rice cereal. I've been wondering what it is exactly about the cakes that do me in. From what I've read about it when stuff is heated past the boiling point they develop more amines. When foods ripen or ferment they develop more amines. Really ripe bananas will have alot of amines (even not ripe they are considered high). I'm thinking the way the rice cakes are made they probably are heated and develop more amines that way. Since I'm already overloaded I'll react pretty quickly. If I wasnt overloaded I could probably eat the cakes now and then as long as I dont overdo it and reach my threshhold.

The "orange pee jug" () and the bloodtest are both for histamines. I asked the doctor at HN if she could order me the test. She wasnt familiar with it but she looked it up, ordered it and gave me the lab slip. On the lab slip there was a bunch of labs to go to for the test. I picked one on Remmington in Sunnyvale. Just went in on Friday and walked out with a huge orange pee jug.

Are you doing the test for histamines? Or is the orange jug universal for all sorts of "pee tests"??

Its already 12:30 and I havent even gone yet. The first morning one doesnt count....you're not suppossed to "save" that one. My jug is gonna be so not full.

My doctor is testing me for a bunch of things so I am not sure if this one is for histamines or its the universal orange jug- it may be. Its 8:30 Pm here and I have been peeing in this stupid thing since 7 in the morning. I always pee frequently so I am doing pretty good at filling it up but I think I might go mad in the process!!
