ARCHIVED Distended Stomach - Lots Of Pain - I'm Confused!
CMCM replied to DingoGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
BY THE WAY....Dr. Peter Green in his new book "Celiac Disease...A Hidden Epidemic" states that the ONLY cosmetic we actually ingest is lipstick, and to be sure whatever you use if gluten free....that you will probably have to call the lipstick co. to be sure since labeling isn't as strict for non-food items. Beyond the lipstick, he stated very clearly... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Green's New Book
CMCM posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm just finishing Dr. Peter Green's new book called "Celiac Disease...A Hidden Epidemic." Here's what he says about lotions and potiions, shampoos etc: "Gluten is absorbed only thru the digestive tract. It is not absorbed thru the skin. Unless you are ingesting your shampoo, skin lotions, creams or makeup, they do not have to be gluten-free. If you... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Testing
CMCM replied to mamaw's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have to have specific genes to develop celiac disease. Beyond the specifically identified genes, it is also believed that a number of other unidentified genes are perhaps involved as well. Here's a capsule of what Dr. Green says in his new book: HLA antigens are proteins found on the surface of almost every cell in the body. These HLS antigens... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
CMCM replied to momandgirls's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My feeling is that any doctor who had at least a modicum of knowledge about celiac disease would also know about the existence of Enterolab. I found out about it very easily and quickly. It is mentioned in at least TWO books about celiac disease. A doctor who has never heard of it has not bothered to do much research about celiac disease, period. I... -
ARCHIVED Can Stress Aggravate Celiac Symptoms?
CMCM replied to shellbean's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One thing I had too was the hip pain...my left hip. It came and went, but I think now without gluten it's getting better. As for the diet, I am struggling with that too, but for some food items you just go back to square one. It's obviously that you will no longer eat the usual breads, pasta, crackers, coookies. If bread is important to you, find... -
ARCHIVED Should I Worry?
CMCM replied to alex361's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Alex, you are lucky because you are only 21. Somehow you were led in this direction, and while celiac may not be the answer, you would be smart to check it out. If you are celiac, the solution is clear: be completely gluten free for the rest of your life. If you are celiac, you more than likely have other assorted sensitivities...they tend to occur in... -
ARCHIVED Distended Stomach - Lots Of Pain - I'm Confused!
CMCM replied to DingoGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have very very similar reactions to dairy. I always thought I was lactose intolerant, but when I did my celiac tests with Enterolab they also tested for casein sensitivity, and I had it. So I've had to give up dairy, too, and it won't get better. At the very least, at this point in time for you, I'd give up dairy so your villi can heal, and later see... -
I have something similar, I think. I'll not be sure if something is bothering me or whether it's just extreme hunger. It's like my hunger signals are messed up. And I'll feel really awful, and not know whether or not to eat, whether that will make me feel worse or better. And sometimes I feel kind of sick and don't really feel like eating anyway, though...

WOW...thanks for posting this...I hadn't heard of it. My son has peanut allergy and I have lived in fear of his accidentally eating hidden peanut his whole life (20 years!). His allergy test was off the chart and his reactivity appears to be major, but you just can't know for sure, all you can do is worry about it. I've had the impression that perhaps...

I just busted open my packet of K-toos...I'm impressed! They taste good....almost as good as a real Oreo! The cookie part is crunchy and just like an oreo, not weird or anything, just the right texture. Even the design on the cookie looks like a real Oreo. Quite amazing! I tried some other brand recently....can't remember which one, but they were horrible...

ARCHIVED Casein Sensitive And Lactose Intolerant?
CMCM replied to CMCM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I guess it's a moot point for me...because yes, due to being casein sensitive that's the end of it, I shouldn't eat dairy. I was just wondering about it, though. And I have to say lactaid pills may have helped a bit in the past, but not entirely. I'm actually finding that the dairy restriction is perhaps harder than the gluten one. Gluten and dairy really... -
ARCHIVED Macdonalds Fries
CMCM posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know if this was posted before, but here's the official statement from the Celiac Sprue Assoc. The Celiac Sprue Association (CSA) has examined the commercial manufacturing process of the natural flavoring with wheat as a starting ingredient which is used in connection with the McDonald’s Corporation French fries and hash browns. CSA provides t... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
CMCM replied to flampton's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree about the mission! My dad died in 1989, but thru testing of my mom and 3 siblings we might figure out which genes he probably contributed. And since most likely gave me the gluten sensitive gene, my mom (who most likely gave me the celiac gene, since she has it) we have to re-access my dad's health and what killed him, and we wonder how much of... -
ARCHIVED Can Stress Aggravate Celiac Symptoms?
CMCM replied to shellbean's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Absolutely! Stress can mess up anyone! THis is why you need to find a way to decompress at the end of the day....yoga, exercise, something physical to release the pent up energy from the stress. -
ARCHIVED Negative Results
CMCM replied to lemonade's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the others. My blood test came back negative. But thru Enterolab I got very positive results and learned I have two genes, one for celiac and one for gluten. Either way (i.e. with gluten OR celiac genes) the "cure" is the same: don't eat gluten. They can both make you sick. And ultimately, Nini is right....the answer is in the diet. If... -
ARCHIVED What Is The Name Of The New Celiac Blood Test?
CMCM replied to floridanative's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The title of the book is "A Personal Touch on...Celiac Disease--the #1 Misdiagnosed Intestinal Disorder." by Peter Berlin and Jerry Stone. There are several discussions in the book mentioning depression as a side effect of untreated celiac. Here's the amazon link: Open Original Shared Link I'd suggest getting the Enterolab stool testing panel, or... -
ARCHIVED Familt Act Like Celiac Is No Big Deal?
CMCM replied to erin24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I really think most people tend to take their "cues" from you. So, if you are knowledgeable, determined and purposeful, also matter of fact yet firm about what you will and must do in terms of your diet, people will mostly accept that. If you are not firm about it, that leaves an opening for other opinions and people will sense your indecision and weakness... -
I came across this book called "Gluten Free Diet: A Comprehensive Resource Guide" by Shelley Case. Has anyone got this, and what do you think? I guess it's several years old, and I'm wondering if it's out of date by now.

ARCHIVED New Book: Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic
CMCM replied to celiachap's topic in Publications & Publicity
I'm a very voracious reader on this subject, so I'm reading this book after having read several others. I haven't found much that I haven't already read, I must say. It's interesting enough, clearly and simply presented, and perhaps it will carry more authority in the medical community since it is written by a DOCTOR (bow down and worship now). It's a... -
ARCHIVED Kinnikinnick Breads
CMCM posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was looking at Kinnikinnick's website and thety have a lot of different breads....can anyone recommend any particular ones, especially among the various white and brown breads (not flavored ones). -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
CMCM replied to flampton's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You could mention to your family members that they could wait to get their diagnosis until the point where they are diagnosed for, oh, something like rheumatoid arthritis, cancer....lots of ugly things out there that come out of ignoring gluten/celiac connections. -
My mom goes there. I also found a fair number of items at Sunrise Natural Foods in Sacto...can't remember exactly where it was. That store had a bit more than the Sunrise in Auburn.

ARCHIVED Heading To Whole Foods For The 1st Time!
CMCM replied to mrsnj91's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
At our Whold Foods in Sacramento, I couldn't find anyone to direct me so I just wandered around looking at things. I never saw a gluten free aisle, and in fact, I found hardly anything gluten free. I was really disappointed. Maybe it's just this particular store that isn't all that great. -
ARCHIVED Kinnikinnick Brownies
CMCM posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just tried my brownies....pretty good, even hubby thought so as evidenced by the fact that he kept eating them. I'm going to have to hide my gluten-free food sometimes. I didn't show him the donuts, ha ha, or they'd soon be gone because he's a donut monster! -
ARCHIVED What Is The Name Of The New Celiac Blood Test?
CMCM replied to floridanative's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A skin prick test is still a BLOOD test, undoubtedly with all the accompanying lack of precision. A skin prick is just easier than drawing blood, I suppose. A blood test by any other name..... The recurrent theme here is that a person will often have all these digestive symptoms that no one can figure out....all the doctors know to do is order the usual...
