  1. Susan, I'm sorry it didn't work, and I'm trying hard to not laugh. This reminds me of the scene in "Anne of Green Gables" where she tries to dye her hair black and the same thing happens. I think I'll stick with my natural color - you've convinced me.
  2. YES! This is what I want to do too!
  3. I thought of a couple of other easy to fix meals. Turkey burgers, on lettuce or gluten-free bread, Bush's baked beans, chips or frozen fries, carrot sticks, apples Hot dogs, beans, "tater tot" type potatoes, etc. Chicken breast tenderloins, marinaded for just a few minutes in olive oil and balsamic vinegar and spices of choice, grilled on the barbecue...
  4. You are all so brave to color your hair! I'm afraid it will make it fall out more if I do anything. But now I'm getting a little gray around the temples and a bit in my bangs, I'm considering trying something. I have regular brown hair with a few blond and red highlights, brought out by the summer sun. Any suggestions on what I should try? I would have...
  5. Okay, I've been working on an analogy, let's see if it makes sense. All doctors should be trained to recognize a broken arm, right? Let's say that in medical school they teach that anyone with a broken arm will have fallen out of a tree, so the docs are trained to look at the symptoms and then ask if the person has fallen out of a tree. If they have...
  6. Aarrgghh. My brother in law actually sabatoged my food once. He put bread crumbs in some meat patties and then swore up and down that he didn't. He was so convincing that I ate one. I wasn't even done with dinner when the stomach ache hit. Before it was time to leave I was running for their bathroom. I had the big D for 3 days and missed a half-day...
  7. Oh yeah, I like Harrison Ford too! I even liked him in "Regarding Henry" where he got shot in the head and became a nice guy. And I loved him in Star Wars and in The Witness. I like the remake of Sabrina and the original with Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart.
  8. Make timebake and your slow cooker your best friends. You can spend a few minutes in the morning and have dinner ready in 10 minutes when you get home from work. I don't have quite as many restrictions, but close. Here are some ideas: Chicken (or venison) slow cooked in barbecue sauce, served with rice and salad. Roast chicken, potatoes and carrots...
  9. Have you ever seen The Music Box? I don't own it and can't find it to rent anymore, but if you can in your area check it out. Good for about 13 and older. It's a great story. One of my kids like the second Pirates too... I'm hoping the 3rd one will be better.
  10. My egg-free brownie recipe is more cake-like than regular brownies, but works well with the Ener-G egg replacer. I use maple syrup for the sweetener, so that helps too. Another idea is using unflavored gelatin - sorry I can't remember off-hand how much right now. Perhaps finding a different recipe that has a different texture anyway would work? It's...
  11. Favorite movies - I love Pirates of the Carribean too! (But I HATED the second one ) My other favorites are The Sound of Music, Ever After, Raising Helen and an old one called The Music Box. I rarely watch grown-up movies, since most everything needs to be appropriate for my 9 year old son. Carla - I can only imagine all the chick flicks you've watched...
  12. I'm with you, Fiddle-Faddle. I keep mine short too, but then it's much easier to teach PE when I don't have to worry about my fingernails breaking.
  13. Who was that team in white out on the field? And what did they do with my Seahawks?
  14. I remember when I was in my early 20's and thought that 35 was fairly old. I made a comment to a co-worker, who was 35 at the time, and she laughed and said, "35 is young! Just wait a few years and you'll realize just HOW young it seems." Well, now I think it's young too. Heck, I'm even thinking that 60's are young, considering that my mom is 78 and travels...
  15. Patti, I'm so glad you have a good sense of humor! Think of it this way, you can still call yourself 40-ish. My youngest son, when he was learning to count, would say, "49, 40-10, 40-11, 40-12", etc. So that would definitely include you! Oh, and thank you for the welcome Patti and Carla!
  16. We used to have a group at church for "30's and 40-ish" aged couples. One of my friends is married to a man who is over 50 and we always referred to him as the "ish". So, maybe we could call all of you slightly over or under 40's "ish's"?
  17. Oooh, can I jump in here too? I'm 43 - I actually meet the criteria for the thread! I rarely wear nail polish because I'm a grown-up tomboy, sigh... My mother still wonders if I'll outgrow it. I graduated from high school in 1981 too!
  18. We love chicken and dumplings. Not sure if they're the same style dumplings though. I use Br. Rice Flour, Potato Starch, Tapioca Starch and Xanthan gum for my flour, and then follow the recipe in Betty Crocker. I've never had them flop yet. NOTHING will work with plain rice flour.
  19. I'm really not trying to argue here, but your post made me think about Snickers. I generally don't eat them or let my kids eat them because I think they are unhealthy - we avoid hydrogenated oils as much as possible. I have let my son have one a couple of times though when other people were having ice cream or donuts or something he can't eat. I hadn't...
  20. Ooh, sounds good. Can you post the recipe? Would it work with rice milk?
  21. I'm just curious - how much xanthan gum do you put in? I've never had slimy cookie dough and we eat it raw all the time.
  22. I agree with the others who have defended Enterolab. My son tested negative and doesn't have either of the main celiac genes, although he has a double copy of the gluten sensitivity gene. I was told that I was "allergic to wheat" over 10 years ago and that I would be able to eventually re-introduce it if I avoided it for long enough. It didn't happen...
  23. I've been in the same situation before. I just took something in my purse to eat. I ordered something to drink and then ate and visited. The waitress gave me a strange look and I said something like, "I have serious food allergies, so I can't eat anything you serve, but I just came along to socialize." It wasn't much of a problem. And I've been to fast...
  24. Just wanted to add a note of encouragement. I hope you get some answers soon! I'll say a little prayer for you.
  25. I don't peel or slice mine. Just quarter and cook with as little water as possible. Then I put it through an applesauce maker (also called a food mill) and all the yummy applesauce comes through and the skin and seeds stay in the basket. Then I mix in some cinnamon and maybe honey if the apples aren't sweet enough. I freeze it in plastic freezer containers...
