Prayers for you Susan.

Thanks for the responses. I'll look up the Gluten Files. He is already dairy-free (since 18 months) and is struggling with being even more different. On one hand, he understands, but on the other hand, he thinks it really doesn't affect him that much and that he can eat a little bit. I think he's starting to get it a little bit though - last time he was...

I posted a while ago about my son having testing done through Enterolab and coming out negative on the gluten sensitivity stool test (score was 9 and 10 and over is considered positive), but showing a double copy of DQ1. I have been reading some posts that indicate that DQ1 is associated with neurological symptoms and gluten sensitivity. My son has had...

ARCHIVED Lundberg's Rice Express
lonewolf replied to jaten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Lundberg specializes in rice. I don't think they even grow wheat. I eat their rice flour all the time and don't even worry about CC. I'm not saying that the malt is safe in the "rice express", but their plain rice shouldn't be a worry. -
Have you been officially diagnosed with DH? If so, that's pretty much a clear sign of Celiac.

ARCHIVED I've Been Through Enough...help!
lonewolf replied to blracing's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. You're not crazy! Many of us here have gotten the same run-around from doctors. Feel free to ask lots of questions - there are lots of knowledgeable people here. As I see it, you have three options - 1) Continue to eat gluten and find a GI to run tests. If you've already tested negative for Celiac, the tests could come back... -
ARCHIVED Oh My Gosh, Winter Has Arrived
lonewolf replied to Ursa Major's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I love snow! The only time I've ever seen it in October was in Siberia though. It was 70 here today too. We rarely get enough snow to play in here - we have to drive to the mountains usually. -
ARCHIVED New To Boards, Anyone Here Both Gluten And Amylose Free?
lonewolf replied to happyzot's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just wanted to say welcome! I'm not Amylose free, but maybe if I bump this up someone else will see it. Please stick around and feel free to ask lots of questions. -
Carla - just got on and saw your new pic. You look cute!!! No kidding, you look WAAAAY too young to have a daughter in college.

I used to have problems with plantar fasciitis - suffered on and off for years. It all went away when I went wheat-free, mostly gluten-free, about 10 years ago. My SIL has had troubles too and thought it was the extra weight she was carrying. She had a gastric band put on and can't eat bread anymore. Within 2 weeks, her foot pain was gone and she wasn...

ARCHIVED Anyone Misdiagnosed?
lonewolf replied to probonohoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! I'm afraid that not many people will see your post here in an existing thread, so I encourage you to start a new thread introducing yourself. You will get lots of good advice and help. I was diagnosed with "colitis" a long time ago too. Then they told me that the term was out of date and it was "IBS". These are both dianoses that mean the... -
ARCHIVED Need gluten-free, Dairy-free, Egg-free Dessert Recipes
lonewolf replied to Anya78's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. I realized that most of my cooking/baking is done from recipes in my head or by simply following "regular" recipes and substituting ingredients. I do have a great apple cake recipe that I'll post below. I have a yummy carob brownie recipe too, but my sweet looking puppy got a hold of the recipe card and chewed... -
Patti - do you know if he's gone for good? I tried to PM him and he either has it disabled or his inbox is full. I'm so out of it (I don't like drama, politics or game-playing, so I tend to stay out of threads that deal with that stuff) that I don't even know what happened. Why did he leave? He's such an important part of our board.

ARCHIVED Coping With Celiac Disease Emotionally
lonewolf replied to Sissy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome! Relax and breathe! Most of us made mistakes at first that we would never make now. Browse around and look at old posts - they're a wealth of information. Feel free to ask lots of questions - there are many knowledgeable people here who are happy to help. -
Carla - sorry your demon braces hurt. I had braces from ages 9-12 and then again from 37-39 (a month shy of 40). Mine hurt like heck for 2-3 days when I first got them on and then every time they'd be adjusted. Applesauce, canned pears and chicken broth were my friends. So unfair to not be able to eat yogurt and ice cream! I worked today and couldn...

ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
lonewolf replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I wanted a subscription to Highlights Magazine. It was always so fun to read in the dentist office. -
You all are keeping me laughing too hard to even think of being offended by anything. I wish I could remember jokes!

ARCHIVED Gluten = Opiate? Help Appreciated
lonewolf replied to newyorkdave's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! You came to the right place. I don't have Celiac either, and can relate to your list of symptoms. I did have some digestive issues, but not as bad as "classic" Celiac. Didn't get the bad weight loss like some do. Gluten intolerance is very real and needs to be treated the same as Celiac - with a gluten-free diet. I've wondered if I have Adrenal... -
ARCHIVED Cream Of Chicken Soup
lonewolf replied to hannahsue01's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never found one. But I am dairy-free too, so that limits me more. When I need something like cream of chicken soup, I make a gravy with chicken broth and rice flour and use that. It usually works out okay. -
It's definitely beautiful up here, but we try to tell everyone it rains all the time so too many people don't move here. Well, that hasn't worked, it's getting overcrowded... Anyway, I love Puget Sound and all the islands. Have you ever been to the San Juans? I never get tired of our annual camping trip up there.

Happy Birthday Tavi! What's a number anyway - it's all about attitude. Susan - I live south of Seattle. We used to be considered rural, lots of trees everywhere, everyone has at least 1/3 acre, etc. Weyerhaeuser decided to develop some big chunks of land and flattened everything all around our neighborhood. Six houses to an acre! Huge houses with...

Oh, we posted at the same time and I didn't see this. Now that I'm done laughing, I'm scared for my little guy. We used to live by about 100 acres of woods, but they've all been bulldozed down and new houses put in over the past 18 months. We have rats, rabbits, skunks, raccoons, squirrels and coyotes all displaced and over-running our long-standing neighborhood...

Don't make me laugh so hard. My incision still hurts!
-
Wow, it is quiet! I'm just getting ready to go for a walk with my daughter. We're taking a flashlight because we keep seeing coyotes in our neighborhood. I think they want our puppy for dinner, so we won't take him. I love crisp, fall evenings. You all must live east of here, since it's just getting to be evening here now.

ARCHIVED Help! Roux(flour & Oil) Gluten Free
lonewolf replied to AmyTopolski's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
White rice or sweet rice flour work great for making a roux.
