Just wondering - do you usually make separate food for your kids or try to make something that everyone can eat? I've found that it's easier to make the same food for everyone, with a few exceptions like bread for sandwiches. All the pizza, pasta, cookies, pancakes, muffins, etc. I make are gluten-free and everyone eats them and enjoys them. It saves me...

Here are links to two pizza threads from last month. They both have recipes for pizza crust. I've had great success with homemade crust - my 9, 11, 13 and 14 year old kids ALL love it and my 13 year old daughter even told me that it tasted as good as pizza from a pizza parlor. My recipe is in the thread on the 2nd link. Open Original Shared Link ...

ARCHIVED High Cholesterol, Hyperglycemia....
lonewolf replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So sorry you're having a tough time. I've also been in a place (more than once actually) where I've wondered what else can go wrong. I wish I had some great words of wisdom for you, but I'll just have to send my encouragement and empathy. Hang in there! -
I first found out I had food allergies/intolerances/sensitivities a little over 10 years ago. I was told that if I avoided those foods for a long time and got my digestive tract healed, then I would "probably" be able to start adding them back in a year or two. That worked for things like bananas, lentils and peanuts, but definitely not wheat or gluten...

ARCHIVED My First Post!
lonewolf replied to Lilla's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board Lilla! Sorry to ignore you on my last post. I'm sure you'll like it here - people are very helpful and caring. I hope you figure out the white bumps. I have problems with my skin and I know how frustrating it can be. -
ARCHIVED Tymber The Wonder Toddler!
lonewolf replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hooray for little Tymber! God is so good! And way to go mom and dad to be diligent parents to help him get to this point! Enjoy having a 3 year old red head. My red-headed son was so much fun at that age! Everyone started asking him at about that age, "where did you get that red hair?" and he would always say, "It's not red, it's orange!". -
ARCHIVED My First Post!
lonewolf replied to Lilla's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello and welcome to the board Han Jam. Sorry to chop your post up, but wanted to point out a few things. You don't have to miss cake, bread or pizza. You can have more than the "odd cake or piece of buttery toast". My avatar is a picture of a gluten-free pizza that I made from scratch - and it wasn't hard and tasted great! It's easy to make gluten... -
ARCHIVED What Are You Craving For?
lonewolf replied to Lexis's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Here's another easy chocolate chip cookie recipe: 1 C Butter, softened 1/2 C Almond Butter 1 Egg (or replacement - flax seed meal works well in these) 1 tsp. Vanilla 3/4 C Brown Sugar 3/4 C White Sugar `(or 1-1/2 C Organic Sugar that's naturally slightly brown for both) Mix well, either by hand or electric beater, then add: 2-1/4 C gluten... -
ARCHIVED Shocking Story
lonewolf replied to Gcbec's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just curious - has anyone heard any more on this? It's so hard to know the true story on anything, but I've wondered what the scoop was. -
ARCHIVED Volley Ball Camp-filling/healthy Lunch
lonewolf replied to Lexis's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Deli turkey wrapped in lettuce leaves or brown rice tortillas Envirokidz Cereal bars Fruit leather gluten-free chips Carrot sticks/dip Apple or banana Homemade chocolate chip cookies Juice box Water bottle My daughter just went to basketball camp and took this type of lunch every day (she isn't gluten-free, but the only difference is that she had... -
Sorry you're going through this. I went through a similar time when I first found out I couldn't have wheat and a number of other foods. It took a while to figure out what to eat and how to make it. I second the motion to try to get more protein. Also, why can't you marinate your chicken? I do all the time in Italian dressing, Caesar dressing, or...

ARCHIVED Quick Question
lonewolf replied to Lymetoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm sorry I don't know about Van Camps, but I do know that Bush's baked beans are gluten-free. There's a thread about them from last week sometime. -
ARCHIVED "you Might Be A Celiac If....."
lonewolf replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh yeah! My daughter actually DID take a picture of me eating pizza that I actually ordered in a pizza place, rather than making it myself. My whole family celebrated with me. The pizza place actually even had goat cheese, so I got cheese on it! -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
lonewolf replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yay for Megan! I'm so happy that she's home and doing well. My kids ask about her. She must have a lot of spunk to pull off the steri-strips! -
ARCHIVED Celebrities With Celiac?
lonewolf replied to lauderdalehawk44's topic in Publications & Publicity
Wait, what am I missing here? Is red hair a possible sign of Celiac? My son is a red head - of course, he is the one we are now testing through Enterolab because we suspect he has it. -
ARCHIVED Is Losing Hair On Shins Related To Celiacs?
lonewolf replied to mle-ii's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Do a quick search on cortisone/cortisol. I read somewhere (when I was on prednisone) that a cortisol imbalance in your body can make the hair on your legs fall out, and I think it was below the knees. Don't just take my word for it - I've had a hectic week. But you might try looking it up. -
I buy Isernio's Chicken breakfast sausage. I freeze ALL my meat and put it into the cooler, with ice, frozen. I even cook hamburgers ahead and freeze them, then just need to reheat them on the grill. I've never had a problem with anything spoiling. We usually go for 5 days and 4 nights. By the last night I do play it safe and we eat lentil soup that...

We love camping and I do it gluten-free (except for sandwich bread for everyone else) for the whole family. Breakfasts: Sausage, scrambled eggs, toast (even gluten-free bread tastes good toasted on a griddle on the fire with lots of butter), turkey bacon, fried potatoes, pancakes, cereal, applesauce Lunches: Sandwiches (I wrap the deli meat in lettuce...

I've also had genetic testing and don't have either of the 2 main celiac genes. But no one can convince me that I don't have serious problems with gluten. I originally did an ELISA test that showed high on gluten, wheat, barley and oats (not rye for some reason) and that is why I went "gluten light" 10 years ago. Like you, there's no way to test for anything...

I have to eat a significant amount of it now to get a reaction (not just the little bit in soy lecithin), but I get just yucky feeling and aching in my joints - especially my hands.

There are several pre-packaged, but expensive, gluten-free flour mixes. Many people like to use these. My personal favorite is making a mix of flours myself, by buying flours in bulk. I use 3 C Br. Rice flour, 1 C Potato starch (NOT flour) and 1/2 C Tapioca Starch, sifted together with 2 to 2-1/2 tsp. xanthan gum. This works great for everything except...

ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
lonewolf replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Don't post here in Rachelville too often, but sure love the laughs. Wanted to add a Southern-ism. My uncle, born in Georgia, lives in N. Carolina, would always say, "Come here an' gimme sum suga' " in his really cool accent. I didn't see him much growing up, but still remember that voice. I talk to him on the phone once in a while and he still calls me... -
ARCHIVED Hello! New From Wa State
lonewolf replied to NancyKay's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hello and welcome! I'm from just north of you (Fed. Way). I don't think there are any support groups in our area. Several people have talked about starting one, including me, but nothing has developed. This board is the next best thing. Feel free to ask all kinds of questions - there's a lot of knowledge here. -
ARCHIVED Strange Eye Movements And Twitches
lonewolf replied to lonewolf's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had looked into Tourette's a couple of years ago. The only thing he has is his eyes. And he has some ADD behavior that went away, or at least got WAY better, when he was gluten-free. He doesn't have any other tics, shoulder movements or anything, no vocal tics or any of the other symptoms listed. -
ARCHIVED Strange Eye Movements And Twitches
lonewolf replied to lonewolf's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
He can't control it and sometimes isn't even aware that he's doing it. When he is aware, he gets upset and that makes it worse. The thing that caught my attention is that he completely stopped doing it when he was gluten-free and it just started again. Once he started again we all realized that he hadn't been doing it for several months. School is out...
