ARCHIVED Tater Tots And Smiley Fries
StrongerToday posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks to my food log, I can look back and see that the last few times I've had Tater Tots or Smiley Fries I seem to have an "epsiode" the next day or so. Which is a shame, they are tasty and one of the few "convenience" foods I have. Does anyone else seem to have a problem with them? Is it just that's it's processed? Shame too - I've been doing... -

When it's your turn to bring snack make rice krispe treats with a safe cereal. I just made some (and made the dairy free because I used butter flavored crisco). I would not put this on a list to go to other parents, they wouldn't think to look for gluten-free cereal. But tasty treat when it's your turn! -
I started the Lexapro in January and have been loosing weight. I think everyone reacts differently though...

My good friend is a CPA and I asked her about this. She said technically it's true, but she wouldn't recommend it. There's too much subject to interpretation. You don't *have* to have the gluten-free brownies or breads. And meat and veggies are already gluten-free. She recommended a better way to handle this is to check into your company's flex spending...

ARCHIVED Bacon?
StrongerToday replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get mine from Market Day (marketday.com) and it's pre-cooked, so no mess and hot and fresh out of the microwave. -
My dr. refers to our guts as a "second brain", that it has the same hormones/chemicals as our brain does and that's why it reacts to stress. Also helps explain why since going on an anti-depressant my IBS has cleared up tremendously!!

Yes! Being stressed and worn out always triggers tummy trouble with me. I've even started to include a stress scale in my food log so I can how it correlates to my stomach. I'd say try and relax, but I know how it is when your baby is sick

ARCHIVED Cold Medications
StrongerToday replied to mdono's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just take Benedryl at night, I'm super sensitive to other decongestants... feels like I'm on speed! Also a big beleive in Zycam, but you need to start that within the first 24 hours or so. It is gluten-free, I called them and asked. -
ARCHIVED Prescription Sleep Medication
StrongerToday replied to lorka150's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yeah, but I lost 50 lbs in the past year so obviusly it's not happening to me!! I think, like with most things, it can effect different people in differen ways and the sleep eaters/drivers are a rare occurance. -

I take Ambien, have not had any problems. I know it's gluten-free, not sure about lactose or rice tho. -

Welcome - glad you're here! You'll learn a lot from this great group, be prepared to spend lots of time at the computer reading up on posts. Sorry to hear you're in pain, and I'm afraid I don't know anything about it... but I'm glad you joined the group. -
ARCHIVED Food Allergy Handbook For Schools
StrongerToday posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am the webmaster for my daughters school and was recently asked to post the following link about food allergies and how best to handle school situations. I thought it might come in handy for others (with teachers or even grandparents?). Open Original Shared Link -
I started on Paxil, but had such bad side effects (very sick to my stomach, jumping out of my skin, headaches...) that they switched me to Lexapro. I love the Lexapro, very mild side effects for just a day or two. Now of course everyone is different, you may not react at all to the Paxil side effects. I'm glad to hear that just by simply taking your...

ARCHIVED Do I Test My Kids?

Were you tested because you had symptoms or because your parent(s) have it? -
ARCHIVED Do I Test My Kids?
StrongerToday replied to jaimi alderson's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm hesitant for a couple reasons - first, my bloodwork came back absolutely negative. I also had food allergy testing done (thru blood work, not scratch tests) and those came back with minimal reactions to foods. (Both my dr. and dietician said they had never seen one with such a low response). So, if I do the bloodwork - and hers come back negative.... -

I'm glad you asked, this has been a question on my mind for some time. I worry about my 8 yr old, who seems healthy, is not skinny (she's plump), and is doing great except for the occasional stomach ache maybe once/week and then she goes #2 a lot. I had her show it to me (ahhh.... parenthood) and it was mostly solid. I think sometimes she gets caught up... -
This happened to me over the holidays. Some family members showed up with their daughter and exclaimed "boy, she was so sick yesterday we had to take her to the ER - but she's fine now). Yea, right This particular bug that we got seems to have been more contagious after the person was ill. The day my daughter came down with it, she'd spent the whole...

I have been avoiding dairy since my initial visit with my dr. in August. I have been feeling great now for weeks, so I thought it was time to reintroduce some dairy. I had a dab of butter last weekend (yum!) and I had a very small amount of herbed goat cheese at lunch today. About an hour ago wham! - the Big D. (Here's the gross part - very liquidy, usually...

ARCHIVED Low-grade Fevers Related To Celiac?
StrongerToday replied to slpinsd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's exactly what I experienced. I can look back now and see many times I thought I was coming down with something.... and now I suspect it was gluten intolerence the whole time. -
Check some of the "alternative" labs - Entrolab, Great Smokies, etc. My dr. mentioned these labs to me, saying i may want to send in some "test samples" - you do have to collect your poop I think....

There was just a pretty lengthy chat about this subject, sorry I don't have the link but I'm sure you can search it. It was pretty interesting!

ARCHIVED Office Party! Quick! Help!
StrongerToday replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This just happened to me the other day. I didn't even bother to bring anything. When I was offered cake I just said "no, thanks". When pressed, I responded with "it looks good, but it's just not worth it for me". If really pressed you could go into what happens when you get gutened - bet they won't ask twice -
ARCHIVED Recurrent Tonsillitis
StrongerToday replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had constant strep throat and tonsillitis growing up. When I was 21 I got tonsillitis and it would come back within 36 hours after stopping the antibiotic. My (old) dr. had me on "maintenance dose" of pennicillan. I am now allergic to every antibiotic in the penicillian family - concidence? I think not! I did have my tonsils removed at age 21 too. -
ARCHIVED So Im Going Away For A Weekend For The 1st Time Since My Dx
StrongerToday replied to Moongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good for you!! I recently got back from almost a week in Florida. I packed Pepto and Immodium, but never used it. I did bring my own bread and cashew butter (we had a fridge and microwave in the room). I also brought emergency snack foods (nuts, Lara bars, etc.) and I never leave home without a can of Progresso Chicken Wild Rice in my backpack. You may... -
I'm divorced, so not the best person to ask about supportive husbands However, I will say that your hubby sounds a lot like my father. At Thanksgiving my mom went to great lengths to make gluten-free foods. I caught her dipping her wheat bread into the gravy to taste it. Twice. I may have over-reacted a tad bit, but when I did my father said "oh,...
