  1. I alwways have Lara, Cliff or Bumble bars on me. I'll often make my own snack mix of mixed nuts, dried fruits and you could throw in the chocolate chips or MnM's.
  2. I've been seeing some great ideas for April Fools food pranks to play on my DD but a lot call for gummy worms and fruit roll-ups. Are they ok for me to eat too? One of the pranks calls for Rice Krispies - but I'm assuming I can find something similar that's ok to have? If you're intersted in any, I'm happy to send or post the link - too funny!!
  3. Obviously an oatmeal bath is out - but you try soaking in a tub with some baking soda.
  4. If she lives in your area, I'd suggest offer to take her shopping too. If you attend a local meeting group then invite her along. Invite her over for a tasty meal so she see we're not just eating twigs and berries. I think the hardest part of starting a gluten-free diet is knowing what you can and can not have - having a mentor would be so helpful.
  5. Never thought about nail polish before it was recently posted. I now know OPI (which I love) is safe. Are there others that are not? I have a huge tub of nail polish - can't imagine contacting everybody, plus some are probably not made any longer. Hello - I'm Ev and I'm a polish junky
  6. I love our version, very easy. Place a ring of an onion slice on each chop. Throw a dash of salt and pepper on, and a few drops of lemon juice. Put one tbls of brown sugar in each onion ring. Cover the brown sugar w/ ketchup - keeping it all in the onion ring. Bake covered about half the length (depending on how think your chops are) then uncovered for...
  7. While I love my dr., I think I know far more about celiac disease then he does. I do however have a very good dietician here in Ann Arbor - her daughter has celiac disease and she's very knowledgable about it. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you her name and number.
  8. The do pack quite a bit of fiber into one little bar
  9. I get mine from Busch's (a Spartan store) and they are fine. Just chicken and some herbs. I also have a Meijer near me but they inject a "solution" and I don't care for the taste - don't even know if it's safe or not, but it tastes icky to me. I think even Boston Market chicken is safe.
  10. I just looked it up on line and here are the inactive ingredients: Cellulose, corn starch, docusate sodium, lactose, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, and sodium benzoate. In addition, the 0.5 mg tablet contains FD&C yellow no. 6 and the 1 mg tablet contains FD&C blue no. So, NO it's not completely dairy free, but it doesn't seem to bother...
  11. You can find lots of DF breads, Knickinick has great ones!! And I think HB eggs last for a week.
  12. I have a small toaster at work. I bring in my favorite gluten-free and casein free bread and toast it, then I put on nut butter (I alternate between almond and cashew). Sometimes I'll add a touch of jelly too. (Yes, some people may call this a PB&J - but I call it breakfast!) It can also be very portable if you want to make it at home. Sometimes...
  13. I don't take thyroid meds, but I do take Xanax for anxiety, Ambien to sleep and Lexapro for my antidepressant. I've always had trouble sleeping and after about four months of being with my new gluten-free/DF life I was getting depressed and extremely anxious about foods - to the point where I wasn't eating or sleeping among other things. I had minimal...
  14. I thought the cartoon was funny and it also shows just how much gluten intolerence is getting noticed!! I think I saw a link to it posted on here under another topic - rhymes with orange maybe?
  15. I forgot to mention that while the Bavarian Inn has bakery items you can order online and have shipped to you, apparently they don't keep anything on hand at the restaurant. Someone else was asking about a gluten-free desert and I overheard the waiter say you had to order it three days ahead of time. Darn - it sounded good, but guess I didn't need...
  16. I took a blood test ordered by my dr. and sent to Great Smokies lab. I too was so frustrated and I wanted to know *right now* what foods I should avoid. I was lucky my insurance picked up half the bill, but it was still expensive. And all it showed was a very low tolerence to casein, milk, egg yolk, peanuts and a low tolerence to lima beans. (No reaction...
  17. We just got back from Frakenmuth. We ate at the Frankenmuth Brewery which was very nice and offered gluten-free items right on their regular menu. We stayed and ate dinner at the Bavarian Inn which has five pools, huge game rooms(s), mini golf and more. The gluten-free dinner menu was limited but tasty. Unfortunately I'm also dairy free which obviously...
  18. Mine is the D or always worring about it.
  19. I use Smart Balance margerine, lactose and gluten free - but there's a bit of soy in it.
  20. I buy Lara Bars, Cliff Nectar (be careful - some Cliff bars are not gluten-free) and Boomi Bars.
  21. I think they are different medicines... Benedryl blocks the histimine and Zyrtek does .... ok, I don't know... but it's like comparing Tylonel and Advil - both are pain releivers but do different things. It could be a lactose thing - the milk may just have been too much for you to process on one little pill. Why don't you try some of that lactose free...
  22. My daughter and I make smoothies almost every day it seems. My favorite is strawberry/banana. Sometimes I add a sm dash of vanilla. We use the plain almond milk (less sugar) for almost everything - even mashed potatoes. I try to get it at Trader Joe's where it's literally half the price then from my regular grocery store. I remember my cousin freezing...
  23. You also might want to give up dairy, that can be hard for a lot of us to process - esp. in the beginning. Try keeping a food log (detailed with everything you eat, including medicines and with what your symptoms are). Feel better soon!
  24. I started having dreams where I would eat my favorite (Stouffers Mac N Cheese) and wake up all mad at myself cause now I would be sick! Then, I'd have dreams and wake up sad that I couldn't eat it. The other day I had a dream about ordering at Wendy's - a baked potato and a patty... I was excited when I woke up cause that was something I could have!!
  25. I eat a lot of bananas and baked potatoes, that seems to help.
