  1. Okay, I was just looking through ALL the recipes of Kraft foods and I think I may have actually found a frozen mainstream dinner that might be safe. Someone please help me out. I have no other allergies or sensitivities and (I know this sounds crazy) I'm dying to eat a real, live, normal TV dinner. I don't know why, I just am. This is for a South Beach...
  2. I love that someone started a post that not only made me smile, but made me sit down and think about all the positive things in my life. I love my daughter and my husband for well over a million reasons. I love that I have well over a million reasons to love somebody. I LOVE my Magic Bullet mixer! I love that celiac gave me the push I...
  3. Jerseyangel, next time you're out this way, check out the castle on E. Woods Drive. It's a sight to see if you've never been there. If you're heading North on 501, make a right onto E. Woods. You can only see it from the road when there are no leaves on the trees. It's really pretty cool and it's just a minute or two off of the main road.
  4. David, I forgot to mention Stauffer's of Kissel Hill in Lititz when I posted before. They have an aisle of gluten free food. It's celiac heaven! Oregon Dairy in Lititz also has a gluten free section. I think there are probably other mainstream grocery stores too that carry stuff. I know Giant is starting to carry some stuff (and I believe they'll order things...
  5. I'm from Lititz, PA (Lancaster area). I can't believe there are people so close to me with celiac! I mean, I can, I've just never met anyone that had celiac other than myself. Do either of you from the Lebanon/Lancaster area have a list of local restaurants that are safe? We do Outback and Carabbas in Lancaster, but I'm definitely itching to expand my horizons...
  6. I believe their custard is gluten free too. I asked last summer and the manager had to contact corporate to find out. I hope they still are, their gelati's are to die for.
  7. Are you using a non-stick pan for her eggs? Even when run through the dishwasher it could take several washings to remove all the glutenous residue from a non-stick pan. I know it sounds far fetched, but that could be why she got sick. The same is true of any porous plastic like Rubbermade containers and plastic mixing bowls.
  8. I swear by Lara Bars (apple pie, pecan pie, and chocolate mole are my favorite). They definitely satisfy my sweet tooth. All of the Glutano brand stuff that I've tried thus far has been wonderful and exceeded my expectations. I'm particularly fond of the custard cream biscuits and the Chocolate O's (Oreos). When I'm in the mood for munch food I really...

    ARCHIVED Help

Celiac is a really hard thing to get used to at first, but once you've mastered the basics your new diet will be a piece of cake (gluten free cake of course). My biggest saving grace with going gluten free was the Magic Bullet. You can get them at Open Original Shared Link, eBay, Walgreens, and lots of other places. I've found so many delicious new things...
  10. Okay guys, if you haven't tried Lara Bars yet, you're in for a real treat! They satisfy every urge I've ever had for something yummy and "bad". The apple pie bar really tastes like apple pie, the pecan pie bar tastes just like pecan pie, the ginger snap bar... Mmmmm.... They're all so good! Sersiously, for those of you that miss sweet treats and haven...
  11. One of the doctors that belongs to the Regional Gastroenterology Associates of Lancaster actually HAS celiac disease. I'm not sure which doctor it is though. Try www.rgal.com. I hope this helps. This is where I go and they are VERY willing to work with you on testing and other things. Nice people.
  12. I read this... "In individuals with coeliac disease other factors must be considered and avoidance of cereals containing gluten may be advisable." I was more interested in possibly being able to enjoy stuffing at Christmas or Thanksgiving than going back to a gluten diet. I was hoping maybe someone had tried it for cheats. I got really sick after Thanksgiving...
  13. I found this website through a link off of ebay. Open Original Shared Link Has anyone tried this and does it work??? I know I'm grasping at straws, but it made me cry when I read it and I was hoping maybe someone had some success with it...

    ARCHIVED Extracts

Be careful if you choose to make your own. My ex used to work in a vanilla plant and they made vanilla extract. His 2nd day there he broke out in a horrible rash and got very sick. He went to the doctor and they told him that it was VERY common to develop a vanilla allergy if you come in contact with raw vanilla beans. He can no longer eat anything with a...
  15. It sounds like you may have a low-grade urinary tract infection. I'm no doctor, but I've read that UTI's are more common in celiacs because of diet. Also, I personally experienced something similar to this in the few months prior to kidney stones. The build up of minerals which cause the stones can also cause foul smelling urine. If I were you I would...
  16. That is SOOOO cool! Thanks for sharing.
  17. My doctor gave me dicyclomine and that virtually got rid of all the cramping tha nausea. It's an anti-spasmodic. It also helped with the leg cramps and other little annoying celiac symptoms.
  18. I am so glad that other people do this... When I read the label for Grandma Utz potato chips and saw gluten free right on it I almost jumped out of my skin.
  19. It took me almost 6 months (and one nervous breakdown) from going completely gluten-free until I started to feel somewhat human again. I attribute most of this to the stress of shopping, eating, and living the social life of a celiac. Here's the website I use for my mainstream gluten-free product list, but remember to ALWAYS check the product's label,...
  20. I feel your pain. I have the same problem even though I've been gluten free for almost 2 years now. I've always (up until going gluten-free) been disgustingly skinny with a HUGE belly. I think it may have something to do with nutritional deficiencies, but I'm no expert. I look like one of Sally Struthers' starving children... I still have the distended belly...
