ARCHIVED What Happened To Spring?
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Exactly However, I'm delighted to say that Tori and I were able to play outside today. I bought her a tee ball set so she learned how to swing a bat. She was actually quite good at it. We also had a picnic, in t-shirts. The weather man said in the news last night not to count on this past snow to be the last... He said we're still waiting on the onion... -
ARCHIVED Recovery Time For Gluten Free Diet
Guhlia replied to debmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
IF your daughter is Celiac/gluten intolerant, it could take a long time for all of these episodes to subside. For me it was almost instantaneous, but for others it's taken over a year. Don't lose hope yet. Are all of her personal care products (shampoo, face wash, nail polish, hair mousse, face cream, makeup, lotion, etc) gluten free? Does she have any art... -

It was 71 degrees here today... And we still have SNOW on the ground!!! -
ARCHIVED Question From Sister.....
Guhlia replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Could it be the high fat content in peanut butter and ice cream that's getting her? I know that doesn't explain the banana issue, but it certainly could explain the other two. -
ARCHIVED Pro-biotics
Guhlia replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That is absolutely CLASSIC!!! Classic, classic, classic... Thanks for the smile today! -
ARCHIVED For All Those Who Don't Have Day, Day
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I've never had one of those days anywhere I've worked. That's so cool that they all pulled together to make your day special. It was really, super cool that they made sure you could eat the food. It's always nice to have people be understanding AND generous all at the same time. Happy ?Clinical Trials? Day! -
You can still eat english muffins - www.kinnikinnick.com Yoplait yogurt is mostly gluten free, just read the labels.

ARCHIVED American Idol Fans?
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Blake is like SUPER amazing. I can't believe he's not already famous. Plus, he's really, really, really hot!!! I just kind of melt when he sings and dances. He'll make it no matter what happens to him in the show. This week was an awesome week. I only disliked a few of the performances. I liked LaKisha's performance this week, I just didn't think it was... -
ARCHIVED Pro-biotics
Guhlia replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I did horribly on probiotics and had to stop taking them. My belly just felt horrible while I was on them. It never got better. Mine were also clearly marked gluten free and had no gluten containing ingredients on the label. I would suspect them rather than lunch, though either is possible. Be sure that the ingredients are gluten free, I know some people... -
ARCHIVED American Idol Fans?

I didn't think Sanjaya got good comments from the judges. I took their comments more as shocked that he didn't completely suck. Simon said it was intolerable. Randy just looked shocked and stuttered through his comments. I think he did okay Tuesday, not great, not Idol worthy, but okay. It was a big change from previous weeks. Haley was awesome this week... -

Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We kind of like Sanjaya's performance last night. We watched them again tonight. Though we thought he should have gone home tonight, we didn't think he was horrible for once. Who knows. Maybe he'll come around after all. We watched all the good performances (and Sanjaya) again tonight. Blake is just out of this world amazing. I really hope he wins this... -
ARCHIVED Tinkinyada Sp?

I've had the vegetable spirals which have spinach noodles in it. I thought they were very good, comparable to the "real" thing. -

ARCHIVED Has The Gene Test Failed You?
Guhlia replied to kookaburra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First, let me say that I think you're doing the right thing by keeping him gluten free if gluten makes him sick, regardless of the diagnosis. Second, keep in mind that not everyone who is sensitive to gluten actually has Celiac Disease. It's possible that his sensitivity is caused by gluten intolerance rather than Celiac. Also, it's possible (unlikely, but... -

ARCHIVED Tomato Sauce Recipe For gluten-free Pasta Shapes

Is this like the Chef Boyardee flavor? -
Jerry, that's awesome that you feel so much better. If you want good (gluten free) cookies, try Kinnikinnick's K-toos. They're just like Oreos, but they won't make you sick. They also make a kick butt ginger snap. Perhaps that will help keep you from cheating.

ARCHIVED American Idol Fans?
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Who do you think's gonna go? Don thinks Gina will go, we didn't think she was very good tonight. I think she has a big enough fan base to keep her in since she's the only rocker. I think Phil might go. That is, unless America gets with the program and gets rid of Sanjaya. It was really weird though hearing him do so much better. It was like he totally came... -

Who were the bottom three last week? I didn't realize they were doing that already. I didn't think they did that til the top 10. This week I think Blake and Melinda were amazing. Haley did really well too, that was a pleasant change. Melinda sang one of my all time favorite songs ever and she nailed it. She had me in tears. Her rendition was so different... -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What This All Means...?
Guhlia replied to Tritty's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you cut back on the amount of gluten he's consuming, it could skew test results. Does he seem to be in any significant pain or is it just his stools that have changed? If it's just his stools that have changed, I would continue to push the table food. You only have two weeks to wait. My daughter was the same way, very active at a very early age, and... -
ARCHIVED Wrong Self Diagnosis?
Guhlia replied to woolwhippet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are truly Celiac, which is very possible even with negative blood and biopsies, even trace amounts of gluten are unacceptable. Just because you don't feel any effects, doesn't mean that it isn't harming your intestines. It's very important, if Celiac, to maintain a 100% gluten free diet. Cheating here and there or allowing trace amounts into your diet... -
ARCHIVED Getting Life Insurance With A Diagnosis Of Celiac
Guhlia replied to shelby1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Their reasoning to me for denying tori was that those with acid reflux are found to have a higher risk of esophageal cancer. I think it's ridiculous. With life insurance for a newborn they wouldn't have lost any money even if she did die at 50 of cancer. I was denied health insurance by Highmark Blue Shield. This was without Celiac on my charts and I have... -
I'm just thinking out loud here... Isn't it possible that this correlation is due to the way that Celiac often occurs? Isn't Celiac often triggered by something else whether it be a physical sickness like TB or an emotional stress or physical stress. The way this statement is worded "Considering that we found a 2.5-fold increased risk of celiac disease in...

ARCHIVED Bread Crumbs
Guhlia replied to uhave2bekidding's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Eggs are fine. Some spices are not, so stick with a trusted brand. Some supposedly use wheat flour as an anti-caking or anti-stick agent. McCormick doesn't.
